3 CITY OF ARMSTRONG Minutes of the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting held in the Council Chambers, 3570 Bridge Street, Armstrong B.C., on March 6, PRESENT: Committee: Peter Rotzetter, Councillor Linda Werner, Penny Christensen, Patti Ferguson, James Simpson, Jessica MacDonald, Patrick Simpson, Robert Thibeau Sandra Arthurson, Al Johnson Staff: Sharon Keane, Recording Secretary Melinda Stickney, Chief Administrative Officer Sue Wood, Corporate Officer Other: Mayor Chris Pieper al Regrets: ro v CALL TO ORDER pp M. Stickney called the meeting to order at 1:05 pm. Mayor Pieper officially greeted the Committee members. Everyone introduced themselves and stated why they were interested serving on the Committee. ra ft ADOPTION OF AGENDA fo ra Committee Chair Appointment P. Rotzetter accepted the position of Chair for a one year term. P. Christensen accepted the Vice-Chair position for a one year term. Appointment for a new Chair will take place at the end of 2017 for 2nd year. D MOVED by P. Rotzetter, seconded by Councillor L. Werner THAT the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting agenda be adopted. CARRIED ADOPTION OF MINUTES MOVED by P. Simpson, seconded by R. Thibeau THAT the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting minutes of November 2, 2016 and November 23, 2016 be adopted. CARRIED PRESENTATION OF REPORTS Review Committee Terms of Reference M. Stickney discussed the following: The Committee s commitment is a 2 year term The Chair of the Committee is selected by the membership, appointed during the first meeting at the start of each year; The Chair is the liaison for the Committee and conducts the meetings; Page 3 of 11

4 Minutes of the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting March 6, 2017 Quarterly Report are to be provided to the Chief Administrative Officer; and The agendas and minutes of the meeting are posted on the website for the public. Age-Friendly Community Initiative Findings Report - October 2012 P. Rotzetter and P. Ferguson discussed highlights from the Community Initiative Findings Report October Review Action Plan (P. Rotzetter) P. Rotzetter briefly reviewed the Action Plan. The action plan will be reviewed at the next meeting requesting the Committees input for priorities moving forward. al The next scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, April 12th at 9:00 am. Committee meetings are held during the day, most typically in the afternoon but this can vary. Council and Committee Meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of each month, unless Monday is a Statutory Holiday, in which case the meetings takes place on Tuesday. ln order to appear as a delegation, you must submit a written request addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer. You are also asserting that your presentation is in compliance with the Federal Copyright Act, and grant the City of Armstrong license to publish these materials. Meet and Greet Public Event for Communitv to one stop shop with Not for Profits/Societies/Clubs and Orqanizations - What have we got planned in Armstrong/Spallumcheen and what kind of fun is in it for you and your family! 3. Brings groups and organizations together to encourage collaboration between the g rou ps/organ izations:. drum up support for them to post their events on the Armstrong 100 Facebook page thru the Chamber of Commerce - get the community used to using it to find out what's happening and give organizations an additional/ consistent tool to use for getting their word out. register your groups. Drum up support for use of Nexus Volunteer Services Armstrong Program - need for volunteers and register potential volunteers. Create a "communication network" - based contact for groups to share their programming, their events, their needs for help, a fundraising collaboration, and communig needs list (and?) This event could tick a number of boxes for us and for other organizations in Armstrong - including unveiling the Nexus Volunteer Services program. The Nexus Volunteer Services Program is meant to offer organizations the chance to regíster their needs for volunteers and to encourage volunteers to register to fillthose needs. They have set up office at the Seniors Activity Centre and are ready to roll out the service to you and the community. A soft launch is already under way. Come see Melanie at the Seniors Centre Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30. Phone Our date is Saturday, April 29th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and we know that Saturday may be a problem for you which is why we want to give you lots of advance time on the date. We are targeting Saturday so the Public of all ages can attend. Plans so far include: preferably manned by their volunteers/members - to tell the public about themselves and why they need volunteers. 1. Invite all of the above to participate by having a table - 2. Unveil the Nexus Volunteer Service Program - day. lt is a simple one page form!
