Independence means doing things on my own and having freedom. Jennifer Jennifer, a busy second-year college student with big plans is not letting her disability impact her dreams.

Her mom, who also helps to coach Jennifer s power wheelchair soccer team, transported by Medical Motor Service, sees even greater benefits. It s made a difference in her life.

It means a great deal to me to be Stephen is living with advanced Multiple Sclerosis (MS) which is slowly eliminating his ability to walk and care for himself but not his determination.

The MS Independence Fund provided repairs to Steven s wheelchair-accessible car so that he could continue to get to medical appointments, run errands and visit friends, enhancing his quality of life.

As an advocate and volunteer counselor at Camp EAGR, Erica works to change people's perceptions about epilepsy, and recently authored a children's book to raise greater awareness.

With ongoing support from multiple agencies, Jennifer credits Al Sigl Community of Agencies for helping her gain more independence and fueling her passion for soccer. Stephen Erica is an energetic sixth-grade teacher who was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy at 22 years old. As an advocate and volunteer counselor at Camp EAGR, Erica works to change people's perceptions about epilepsy, and recently authored a children's book to raise greater awareness. My goal is to help educate people... and become actively involved in helping children deal with the stigma and obstacles that come with an epilepsy diagnosis. Erica SHILINCIA was born with spina bifida. CP Rochester provided physical therapy and social work to Shi and her family when she was released from intensive care. Now, two and a half years old, Shi walks with the aid of leg braces and her walker for short distances and whizzes around in her wheelchair on longer distances. This amazing little girl is going places!

Karen Growing up, Karen was urged to try things that she wanted to do, even when others believed it wasn't possible things like roller skating, cycling, tennis and driving. Karen is an MCC grad and teaching assistant who received services from multiple agencies and graduated from Rochester Rehabilitation s DriveOn program. According to Karen s dad, David, driving has motivated Karen to get out and do things others wouldn't have thought she could achieve. Karen has a lot of independence because she drives. She visits friends and goes to work. Tobey was able to hold himself upright for the first time at age 4 after a course of therapy at CP Rochester. Tobey, now 10 and still involved in the program, attends school where he loves to socialize with his friends and plays tuba in the band. He keeps pace with his peers by using canes, a walker or wheel stander and is mastering the fast-paced sport of sled hockey. When Maria initially came to Rochester Hearing and Speech Center, she was very shy and hesitant to engage in conversations. Over time, she became more comfortable and confident and began communicating with several people in the office. Maria was able to develop communication skills she needs for her future.
