1 Monthly Newsletter August 2017 From the Manager s Desk: Greetings Ponds residents, Greetings Ponds Residents, As you all know, there have been some staff changes here at over the last few months. I mentioned in an last week that we have a new Lifestyle Director, Jamie Hepburn, a new Administrative Assistant, Dana Wyatt and our staff is now complete. I would like to thank all of you for your patience during our transition. We had to suspend some activities while we searched for a new Lifestyle Director, but Jamie has hit the ground running and is already planning several fantastic activities/events! In fact, she will be planning a meet and greet on August 9, from 3pm to 5pm so that anyone who would like to meet her or make suggestions to her and the Social Committee regarding desired activities and events in the community can do so. You may also notice that even our Newsletter design is new. We are starting over and we are excited about the changes and look forward to moving full steam ahead in making the best community it can be! Have a great summer! 2 Covenants Corner Greetings Ponds Residents, I have received a couple of requests recently regarding the removal of street trees that have died and whether or not replacement is required. Below are the rules for tree removal and replacement along with a reminder about open garage doors: Conservancy Events Charlie Philips Farmhouse August 27, pm to 4pm and the Civil War Though no fighting occurred in the area of the Ponds during the Civil War, owner Fredriek Schulz commanded an artillery unit that was heavily engaged in the defense of Charleston. He made frequent trips to and from his plantation to his various stations in the Lowcountry. His unit was involved in the famous capture of the USS Gunship Isaac Smith on the Stono River. Later the Ponds served as a detention location for Captain Schulz during his arrest, not by Federal troops but by Confederate authorities. Come hear Charles Philips discuss the Ponds and its role in the Civil War and shortly thereafter on August 27 at 2:00 PM. Tree Removal: The DRB rules regarding removal of trees are as follows: All the trees 24 inches in diameter at breast height need county approval in addition to DRB approval. There is not a protected tree list. However, they are looking for diameter and not circumference. If the diameter comes out to 24+, you will need county approval as well as DRB approval to remove the tree. DRB approval is required for all trees no matter the size. Street trees: If the street has been deeded to the county residents will need to seek county approval to have the county remove as the area from the sidewalk to the street is county owned. Dorchester County will notify me of the requirements for replacement which I will announce to you as soon as I receive them. Garage Doors: Must remain closed except for ingress and egress to the garage or when a homeowner is actively working on a project requiring the doors to be left open. Krista Dorris, CMCA, AMS

YMCA Kids Triathlon The Pond Community August 19, :00am-11:00am Come cheer on all the young athletes participating in the YMCA Triathlon. The Ponds kids will be wearing blue shirts, so give them an extra loud cheer as they pass by! Interested in a Club? 4 From the Lifestyle Director: Greetings Ponds residents, I am so excited to begin my journey as your new lifestyle director! I am eager to get started and can t wait to bring successful events and programming to this community. I recently moved here from Milwaukee, WI but lived most of my life in Ontario, Canada. I am very excited to be living here in South Carolina and also thoroughly thrilled about the idea of not having to shovel snow ever again! When I am not working, I love to experiment with news foods, explore the outdoors, travel and spend time with family and friends. I want you all to know that I am here if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions. Your input is especially important and will only assist in making prosper as a community. It is vitally important that we all work, communicate and support each other in order to achieve our goals. With our new Associa team now complete, I know great things are ahead. I am hosting a Meet and Greet the second week of August and hope to meet many new faces. Please join me at the Farmhouse on August 9, 2017 from 3:00PM-5:00PM. 5 Volunteers Needed: Shady Oak Cottage: We need volunteers for August to lock the Shady Oak Cottage at 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We want to thank the volunteers who have helped us in the past. We need a homeowner to close it at 5 by setting the alarm and locking the door. Please contact us at PondsEvents@associa.us if you are interested! Social Committee: THANK YOU! We are looking for residents to join our Social Committee. School Supply Drive: Don t forget about our school supply drive that is happening right now! You will find donation boxes in both the sales centers, the Farmhouse and Cresswind Clubhouse. We have a few weeks to fill these and set the students of Dorchester District 2 up for a successful school year. Not sure what supplies to donate?
