We have a New Look In the age of technology unexpected things happen that drive us nuts. We lose files, we get hacked, our PC dies. Ladies, my windows PC died. Unfortunately, the Apple Pages software does not read Windows Publisher documents. My only option was to recreate the newsletter on my new Apple PC and it has been a challenge to do this in 48 hours. All I can say for this month: Excuse our appearance, while we re under construction. 1

2 Volume 48, Issue 1 September 2018 President s Message - Joan Rounds One club year ends and another club year begins. Having earned the prestigious Best in Category Award from State in May, we need to get our stars aligned for another great year. But first, we must look inward, to strengthen ourselves so that we can expand outward on new programs and projects. We must ensure that we are doing everything we can to remain healthy, wealthy and wise. We must understand the changes taking place in the world today, and benefit from those changes. We must prevent becoming invisible to others. We are strong women,. The CSWC Focus Project will be collaborating with the Northwestern Broward Library (Coral Springs) on many events, programs and projects. Opportunities are many for each of our community service programs to participate in and benefit from this association with the Library. Much of the GFWC history relates to libraries...we are simply reenforcing this relationship. And let us not forget to welcome the Coral Springs/Parkland Juniorettes to our club. I am very excited about the symbiotic relationship that will develop between us. First Vice President / Programs - Charlotte Deleu I have great certainty that this will be a great year. With your help, we will know no limits. Or, perhaps, the sky is the limit. Welcome back to a jam packed exciting new club year! Our Chairwomen have planned many exciting programs and activities, for us to enjoy. This year, you will find a mix of educational, introspective, and philanthropic events to keep us busy. Here are some of the 2018 highlights. September: All About Us an ice cream social and public library overview. October: Public Issues presents; The League Of Women Voters, an informational program. November: International Outreach presents; Operation Smile, Presidents Project overview. December: Holiday Auction; fundraiser and social evening. In addition to the highlighted programs, we will be sharing more fundraising events and social activities. We can t wait to get started. See you in September. 2

3 Second Vice President - Mary Anne Frankle Welcome Back from our Summer holidays and hope you are looking forward to new activities with our members during the next club year. With my new responsibilities, I am excited about Getting to Know You and hope everyone will accept new roles to make our club year a success. During the summer, we received three (3) new member applications and look forward to meeting and greeting these ladies at our September meeting. In order to make them feel Welcome, we need current members to become First Friends. Just introduce them to other members, familiarize them with our Club, remind them of meeting dates and share your wonderful experiences. It s easy and hopefully you ll make a New Friend too! Our September Meeting will be an Ice Cream Social with all the fix ins. In addition, our Friends at the Northwest Regional Library will have some exciting updates for us. Remember, It s All About US, so Let s Have FUN Third Vice President - Terri Inkley I am back in Fundraising and I am excited to get this year started. I have several dates that I want you to put on your calendars. September 29th, 2 p.m. Fundraiser for Operation Smile at Painting with a Twist. Paint a masterpiece and have a fun afternoon while supporting a great cause. Sponsored by the Arts Community Service Committee. October 27th, 8 a.m. Garage Sale at my home. You can start bringing you treasures to my house after October 8th. I will have a sign up sheet at the Sept. meeting. It is a fun day and great way to get involved. December 11th, 7 p.m. Holiday Auction at our December Meeting. Note: This meeting will be held the 2nd Tuesday of December. March 30, Noon Mad Hatter's Tea Party Luncheon at North West Regional Library. Donate tea kettles and tea cups at any fall meeting. Some of you have asked about the Swiss Mountain Coffee, therefore, the website has been reactivated. See details in this newsletter for more information. There will be more activities during the year so watch my article closely for updates and future events. I am hoping that each of the Community Service Committees will do some kind of fundraiser and I will be happy to help anyone develop their ideas. 4 Conservation - Sherri Myers Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer. We had our first Conservation Craft event in July. We recycled used wine bottles into home décor. I will continue to collect various items at the general meetings to donate to the Sawgrass Nature Center. Save your mascara wands (new or used) and bring them to the meetings. The wands are used to remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of wild animals. There are a lot of issues with marine animals and their habitats. I am doing some research to see how we can improve and help in this area. Once it cools down, I will schedule some Conservation outings. Please let me know if you have any ideas or concerns relating to conservation. Art - Fran Riccardi Come Join us for this Fundraiser for Operation Smile Saturday, September 29th, 2PM-4PM, $35 per person 720 Riverside Drive, Coral Springs, Florida Public Issues - Alice Jackson I hope everyone had a fun and restful summer! Carol Johnson is trying to get a meeting with the Chief of Police to see how we can help them. Also, on October 16th, our program will be from the League of Women voters to help explain the amendments, etc. Education - Carol Moehring We are still partnering with Hunt Elementary School. They are in need of backpacks especially for 3rd-5th grade students, school supplies, and uniforms. Please bring donations to September meeting. The school also needs volunteers for a variety of school activities throughout the year. A background check is required for all volunteers. Go to 4

5 Home Life - Betty Cernech The Home/Life Committee will be very busy this year. Here are some of the events we have on the 2018/2019 Agenda. Events at Tamarac rehab & Health Center Halloween Event 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 24, 2019 Committee members will make 80 Halloween Cards for residents and make an edible craft. Holiday Winterfest Party 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 Committee will assist with a Holiday craft. We will make 110 Holiday gift tags and bring a variety of 110 gifts for residents including lap blankets, small containers of body wash, bottom grip socks, and men s baseball caps. Sweetheart Social 2:00 PM, 2nd Wed. or Thurs., February, 2019 Home/ Life Committee will make 110 Valentines and provide cupcakes (approximately 30) for those residents without dietary restrictions. I am asking all Committee members to mark their calendars and commit when they will be able to help. I know that many of you like to attend the events and interact with the residents. Also, making the cards can be done anytime outside of event time and advance notice gives us lots of time to accomplish. Also, we will be having a Wine Tasting Event in January at my home (date to be decided soon). This will double as our fundraiser and social. Each month I'll be listing birthdays. However, if something special (birth of a grandchild, etc.) occurs in your life and you would like us to share in your happiness, please me so we can put it in our Newsletter. Also, if anyone hears of one of our members not feeling well, please inform me so I can send a "get well" card. In every card I create you will read."it's the special people we meet along life's road...who help us appreciate the journey!" You are ALL one of those special people. Have a happy September!
