With less than 2 weeks to go until the end of term we still have many events on our calendar for both students and parents. Holy Week Celebrations Next week all students will be participating in presentations to the rest of the school. Parents are welcome to attend. The events are as follow: Mon 30 th March: Palm Sunday Prep, Yr 1, 2 & 3 11:10am Big shed Tues 31 st March: The Last Supper Yr 4/5 11:10am Library Wed 1 st April: Stations of the Cross Yr 5/6 11:10am Library Thurs 2 nd April: Easter Bonnet parade All 10:30am Big shed Family Morning Tea All 10:40am Big shed Easter Week rotation activities 11:10-12:45 various locations Please endeavour to make an Easter bonnet with your child at home if this is not possible there may be some provisions made at school to allow participation in the parade. Parents are invited to bring morning tea to share with their own children afterwards. Baptism At last week s mass, lead beautifully by Year 4/5, Ivan and his younger brother Lucas, Chloe, Elle and Sariah were baptised. It was wonderful to be part of their celebration of being welcomed into God s family. Disco There was a fantastic turn out for the disco last Friday with some wonderful green outfits filling the big shed. Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. Thank you to the P & F Association for organising the event and to Sally-Ann Stewart for running the tuckshop. See page 4 for photos. Congratulations to Alyssa Glasspool who was the lucky winner of the Holiday Fun Pack raffle. Thanks also to Toyworld and Civic Video who kindly donated the raffle items and to Mrs Jen Lowcock who organised the raffle for the students. Easter raffle Easter Egg donations and raffle ticket sales have both been going well. Please bring in any other donations as soon as possible. Ask at the office if you would like any more tickets and ensure that all tickets are returned by Tuesday 31st March. The draw will be held on Thursday 2nd April at 10:40 am (after the Easter Bonnet parade). National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence Last Friday was National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. Teachers carried out different activities with their classes to raise students awareness about this issue. There were discussions about the definition of bullying. Bullying is when someone: keeps picking on you again and again and tries to make you feel bad; says or does lots of mean things that upset you; makes fun of you a lot; tries to stop you from joining in or make others not like you; keeps hurting you such as hitting or punching you. Bullying feels awful. You feel like you can t stop it. Bullying can happen in person or online. It might be something people can see or it might be hidden. Sometimes you might have a fight or argument with someone. If it happens once, it is not bullying even though it can be upsetting. It is also not bullying if you sometimes fight with a friend and you can sort it out. St Mary s School s Anti-Bullying framework can be found on our website. Please note that there was an error in last week s newsletter. It should have stated that Semester 1 reports will go home at the end of Term 2 (not Term 3). Tip 9: Don t proselyte, respect others beliefs What we cherish and put our faith into grows by attraction, not by proselytizing. Beauty is the one thing that no one can argue with. Cherish your values, but always act towards others with graciousness, charity, and respect. News from our School Chaplain..Mrs Christine Maltby The feast of the Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the angel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary (Luke 1:26-38), his announcement that the Blessed Virgin had been chosen to be the Mother of Our Lord, and Mary's fiat her willing acceptance of God's holy plan. Five students were baptised at our Friday School Mass, on the 20 th March. They were Ivan and Lucas Poljakovic and Sariah, Elle and Chloe Gordon. Congratulations and welcome to God s family and the St Mary s Parish community. Mini Vinnies students will continue weekly visits at Murroona Gardens each Wednesday. Students from Year 5/6 will visit the residents this week. Some birthday cards will also be handed out and residents will be sung too. Mrs Feeney and her Year 1/2 class will visit Sr Carmel in the Chapel this Wednesday. Fr Abraham will visit Mrs Hodge s Year 4/5 class this Wednesday. Muffins baked this week for the Soup Kitchen were triple chocolate & vanilla sprinkle flavours. Let us remember that it is God who weaves the pattern of our lives also made up from all the scraps of our efforts and the colours of our hopes into his plan for the saving of all his children. 3 YCDI Week 8 Book Award Congratulations to Pierson Hickmott who received the YCDI Book Award this week. Congratulations to our YCDI Awardees (above) for Week 8: Back L to R: Peta McMahon-Neale, Ruby Phillips, Callum Brackley, Sharujan Selvakumar Front L to R: Persia Kirk, DJ Forskitt, Violet Windridge and Charlotte Refalo. Congratulations to Cassidy Pilcher (pictured left) who participated in the Whitsunday Rugby League trials last week and only narrowly missed out on a spot in the Whitsunday team. Well done also to Cassidy, again, and Kayden Muir (pictured right) who both attended the Whitsunday AFL trials. They played very well and Cassidy gained a place in the Whitsunday team to play at the NQ trials in Charters Towers next month. Good luck Cassidy!

5 St Mary s P & F Association Fundraiser Easter Raffle Thank you for all the Easter egg donations please bring any others in as soon as possible. Raffle tickets sales have been going well if you would like any more please ask at the office. Please return all tickets to the school office by Tuesday 31st March.
