The service was coordinated by the local the RSL sub-branch. Children from Mapleton State School performed a poem and a song and this added variety to the otherwise traditional celebrations. Media release For immediate distribution 19/4/18 RangeCare s new op shop at The Old School House RangeCare s new op shop at The Old School House on Obi Obi Road in Mapleton is opening 9am on Wednesday, 2 May, and RangeCare s CEO, Jenny McCafferty, is excited. Fundraising is becoming more-and-more important for our organisation because the way that we receive funding from the government has changed, so opening an op shop is a wonderful opportunity for our organisation, said Jenny. Jenny explained that RangeCare can no longer use unused funds from some of its lesser-used service categories to meet the needs in the community, because any unused funds in each service category must now be returned to the government. 1

2 Jenny said that for a while now, RangeCare had been exploring different fundraising options so that it could continue to meet the growing in-home, respite and social support needs of people along the Blackall Range and surrounding areas. It s a win-win for our community because not only are we raising money to deliver much-needed services to people in need along the range, we are also contributing to other community organisations through the rent that we pay to the Mapleton and District Community Association (MADCA) all while providing the community with access to good quality, pre-loved clothing and household items. Jenny said that RangeCare is so grateful for all the volunteers who have put their hand up to work in our new shop. This is a new venture for us we know how to work in the community care sector; however, working in retail will be a new world for us, said Jenny. Having our experienced Op Shop Coordinator, Jennie, as well as a great team of volunteers some of whom have worked in retail will help with a smooth opening. Jenny said that she was happy to hear that The Sunshine Hospice, which had been operating an op shop at The Old School House for many years, was able to relocate to Montville. We wish them all the very best at their new location. ENDS. Cheers Mark games coordinator. Remember Mountain Sessions, Sunday, 13 May 2-6pm Community Service Dog Owners: At the recent MADCA meeting, the off dog leash area for Mapleton was raised once again. If you are interested in progressing this possibility, please attend the next meeting and/or mapletonqueensland@gmail.com to record your interest. Speed through the Mapleton village shopping area raised once again at the MADCA meeting. If you support the idea of reducing the speed from 60 to 40 please register your support. MADCA would like to continue the campaign but we have been informed we need to be 2

3 able to demonstrate strong community support. Without this show of support we are unlikely to achieve this goal. Old pairs of spectacles: Thank you from Lions many donations received. All are appreciated. If you have any that you no longer require, Lions is happy to take them off your hands. They are recycled to needy communities. New Continuing this week Sunshine Hospice Montville Op Shop now trading from 9.00am at Shop 5, 184 Main Street Montville. The Mapleton Men's Shed is reopening the Drop in Centre from Monday 5th March from 9.30am to midday. The Drop in Centre will be open Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings and the Workshops will be open every Tuesday and Wednesday morning so there will be a welcoming presence every weekday at the Shed. All men are welcome to drop by for a coffee, conversation or some workshop activity. Mapleton Bowls Club: Dinner nights Fridays: May 4, May 18. Costs are from $10 to $14, we have ten raffles and a ditch board offering 3/4 prizes. Have a night out, meet friends and make new friends Gardening on the Edge JUNE - all funds are returned to the community. Probus Club of North Blackall Range Inc. meets on the second Friday of each month at 10 am at Mapleton Bowls Club, 5 Post Office Rd, Mapleton for fun, fellowship and friendship. We welcome potential new members to attend as our guest to the next meeting. Resources focused upon ANZAC a featured display Mapleton Choir will be presenting their May concert titled The Best of British with choral items, quartets, and solos including some wonderful bagpipe music, on Friday 25th May at 7.30 pm and Sunday 27th at 2.30 pm at Kureelpa Hall, cnr. The Mapleton Craft Group meets every Wednesday morning from 9am to 12 noon at the Mapleton Bowls Club. New members are always welcome. Come along and make new friends and learn new crafts. 5 MAPLETON CRAFT GROUP RAFFLE IN AID OF THE CANCER COUNCIL QUEENSLAND This year we are lucky to have two amazing first prizes for our raffle. Other wonderful prizes will also be donated and these will be displayed in due course. Our beautiful quilt has been kindly donated by the LINNAS Club of Nambour. It has been made by the ladies of LINNAS, including one of our members Joy Wiseman, who has made all the patchwork. Our other amazing prize is a wonderful original painting by Keith Blake, husband of another of our Craft ladies. Many of you are aware of the beauty and quality of Keith s work, many of which portray local scenes as does our prize painting of the Mapleton Forest. The draw for these wonderful prizes will on 16th May at our Biggest Morning Tea where we hope to raise lots of money for cancer research as well as support for sufferers and their families. Please buy tickets for this worthy cause 1 for $2 and 3 for $5. 5
