LAA builds, connects and celebrates community leaders through education, training, information, events and networking. Welcome to our bimonthly newsletter of Leadership Anne Arundel enews. Flagship 2012 Retreat at the Paca House Flagship 2012 is off and running! Griff Hall, Past LAA Executive Director, facilitated an excellent Opening Retreat at the Paca House and Dr. Joe Moser and committee designed a fantastic Health & Human Services Day hosted by BWMC. Session sponsored by AAMC and Hospice of the Chesapeake. Now on to our bus tour...! Congratulations! Fellows 2010! Annapolis-Anne Arundel County, MD was chosen as 1 of only 7 communities in the country to be part of the Community & Regional Resilience Institute s local emergency preparedness program. LAA s Ready Chesapeake project, created by Fellows 2010 class will lead the local effort. Ready Chesapeake is actively seeking volunteers and Board members. Fireside Chat Rick Morgan, Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond (and CEO of Commerce 1st) kicked off our Fireside Chat (free to alumni) with an excellent presentation. We had a great crowd and the food was fantastic, thanks to sponsors AAMC and Commerce 1st!

2 Executive Leadership Series (ELS) On December 9th, ELS will join FLG 2012 s Four Corners Bus Tour. Classes will start January 18th. Information and schedule on web site, We still have room for participants, so contact ericedstrom@leadershipaa.org or gbaer@arinc.com. Fellows 2012 Kick Off! Patrick Lee, Past LAA Executive Director, will be directing the 2012 Fellows Program. This is a great opportunity to put your leadership skills into practice as well as refresh them. Program is open to all graduates of LAA programs. The initial Fellows success with Ready Chesapeake was fantastic. As Executive Director I see the future of Fellows Programs as wonderful opportunities for LAA graduates to truly serve our community. It comprises aspects of Think Tank and Leadership Laboratory in a fun energizing environment. We currently have 6 interested graduates and are looking for a total of members. Contact ericedstrom@leadershipaa.org or partickmleejr@gmail.com. Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) kicks off January 14 th! Tatiana Klein (FLG07) will be again leading the class! This is a free program for neighborhood leaders and potential leaders so please send us your suggestions for class participants, ericedstrom@leadershipaa.org. Check out neighborhood.html for details. Come to December 13 LAA Holiday Party at Crush Winehouse, December 13. Kathy Nieberding Temprine and Crush have put together a fantastic event, and we will have the place to ourselves! 3 Alumni Corner What does being a graduate of LAA mean? For me it means that my experience with LAA has been and continues to be meaningful and beneficial to me and my community. There are things that we used to do in LAA that I am trying to bring back, as well as initiate some new programs and activities. We need to communicate better and provide meaningful services to our alumni. Our FIRESIDE CHATS are free to alumni, we are holding more social events, and we are doing newsletters and plan to expand their content. And, yes we are trying to develop a system whereby we can help alumni be in touch with each other so we all can utilize our great network of community leaders...but we can not do these things well without your support and participation. We need alumni involvement and current contact information. The Alumni committee is working on trying to reach out to lost alumni. We are considering some new activities such as a golf outing, etc. I think we are off to a good start but we need to see and hear from you our alumni. Please let Dave Vogel dovogel@praxiseng.com or me ericedstrom@leadershipaa.org know your comments, suggestions, contact information changes, or how to connect with lost alumni. Class Dues and The Annual Fund Class Dues: it s that time of the year again when we look for support from our alumni. Class Dues help support the operating programs and activities of LAA. (ELS is $50, Flagship is $40 and NLA is $25) Class dues for Life Members are waived. The Annual Fund: $100 or more, supports scholarships, new programs like the Youth Leadership Program we are researching now as well as enhancing our existing programs. Life Members and all graduates are encouraged to participate. We annually list contributors to the Annual Fund in The Capital. Class dues are waived for supporters of the Annual Fund, however many graduates generously still pay their class dues. With your generous support of Class Dues and Annual Fund we can not only return LAA to prominence but greatly enhance its programs, activities and network of community leaders. October and November are alumni renewal months. Pay dues and contribute to the Annual Fund at Volunteers Needed Alumni and Newsletter Committee needs members. Class contacts for each class needed for Alumni Committee Flagship Day Committees needs members. Tribute 2012 steering committee met and is looking for committee members. LAA Golf Outing Committee needs members
