1 SNI Meeting Minutes Saturday December 1, 2018 Opening Chair Deanna B. opened the meeting at 10:03 am with the Serenity Prayer. Present were Chair Deanna B., Vice Chair June L., Treasurer Neal M., Corresponding Secretary Tina M., Recording Secretary Susan M., and Representatives Wanda C., Kathryn L, Sue N., Tina S., Penny N., Rob W., Maureen R., Carolyn S., and Judy M. Sue N. read the 12 Steps, Maureen R. read the 12 Traditions, Carolyn S. reflected on the 12th Tradition, Neal M. read the short version of the 12th Concept. The November 2018 SNI minutes were approved as written. Officer Reports : Questions/comments/clarifications Officer reports were sent out before the meeting. The reports are attached at the end of these minutes. Officers shared any additions and fielded questions. Chair (Deanna B.): Asked for those who do not have resources to make their own copies of SNI documents to identify themselves, so she can decide on how many copies to prepare for SNI meetings. Vice Chair/Designated Downloader (June L.): June brought hard copies of documents referred to in her report. Recording Secretary (Susan M.): Please have your meetings change the WSO address not only for contributions and Lifeline subscription forms, but also on the Lifeline sample form in any Newcomer Packets that you may have on hand. The new address is P. O. Box 44727, Rio Rancho, New Mexico Corresponding Secretary (Tina M.): Tuesday Park Ridge meeting is closing as of December 18, Tina M. updated the Grayslake meeting listing to reflect that it is in the church rather than the rectory on our meeting schedule at region5oa.org. Tina will update the SNI contact information with WSO.. Treasurer (Neal M.): We will table the 2019 budget until January. The 7th tradition giving was $39. New Business The SNI bylaws state that the corresponding secretary is the keeper of the SNI distribution list. Anytime there is an to be sent to the SNI fellowship, it is to be sent to the Corresponding Secretary to be forwarded on to the SNI list. When replying to an blast, please reply to the sender (not to all). Should SNI keep a Sponsor List or a We Care List? This discussion will be continued next month. Please consider if this is a service we want to offer, and if so, how will we support it? Bylaws committee/review of SNI Bylaws and Policies and Procedures: Suburban North Intergroup (SNI) Meeting Minutes, December 1,
2 Carolyn S. was approved as the Bylaws Chair for the term ending in October The Vice Chair is automatically a member of the Bylaws committee. Susan M. volunteered to be on the committee. A proposal was made to create an outline for group representatives to use as a guideline in their report back to their meetings. Unfinished Business Venues to be considered for our recovery events: The Vernon Township building rent was raised from $90 to $200 per event, so we did not reserve that space for 2019 events. Susan researched the Civic Center and St. Lawrence Church in Libertyville. Neal researched Stillwaters Alano Club in Lake Barrington. Maureen researched the Buffalo Grove Park District, St. Nicolas Episcopal Church in Elk Grove Village, and Lutheran Church of the Cross in Arlington Heights. When researching event venues, ask about set-up/take-down, room capacity, round or rectangular tables, bathroom facilities, kitchen/coffee set up, podium, handicap accessibility, guaranteed availability, parking, cost per event, and if SNI could hold there meeting in the same building. Also figure out how far the venue is from Buffalo Grove. It was decided to cancel the SNI February 2, 2019 Recovery Meeting. We will be looking at having an event later in the spring. Tina M and Susan M will contact the meeting representatives or contact persons to 1) let them know that the February event has been postponed and 2) get an for each meeting to add to the SNI fellowship blast list. In January we will continue to plan the next recovery event. Participant sharing: Gratitude for SNI. Wrap up Deanna volunteered to get key for the next SNI meeting January 5, 2019, Buffalo Grove Youth Center, 50 ½ Raupp Blvd., Buffalo Grove, IL. The meeting was closed at noon with the Third Step Prayer. Officer Reports sent out before the meeting: Chair Report: December 1 st will be our last Inter group meeting of the year. We are going into the New Year with a full Board and anticipation of increasing our group representation numbers. It certainly does take a village. We have accomplished much this year. We now have chair-people for Step Within Committee, 2. PI/PO Committee, 3. Winging It Committee. We still need a chairperson for the Bylaws Committee. Please be prayerful in considering stepping up. I am excited to be a part of it all. Thank you for your service. All Illinois Day is finally happening after 2 years of talking and planning by our Region 5 representatives from Illinois. Save the date: July 20, 2019 Decatur, Il. Save the date: April 13, 2019 for our Region 5 Leadership Workshop presentation. Tentatively planned to be at Elmhurst Hospital 9:00am till 4:00pm, as per Region 5 Intergroup to Intergroup Subcommittee phone meeting November 19th. Region 5 Spring Assembly March 8-10, 2019, Milwaukee, Wisconsin POSSIBLE EVENT VENUES: Suburban North Intergroup (SNI) Meeting Minutes, December 1,
3 Thank you to all who researched alternative venues. We hope to decide at the December Intergroup in order to get the word out as soon as possible. Relapse Stepping-Stones A list came across my desk, describing what I would call stepping-stones to relapse. Since my abstinence has been good for almost four years, I didn t give the list much thought. I have been so busy being busy, I considered myself safe from the harm of slipping and eventual relapse. Among the stepping-stones were some character defects to which I could relate: exhaustion, dishonesty, impatience, argumentativeness, depression, frustration, self-pity, cockiness, complacency, too high expectations of others, lax disciplines, use of mood altering chemicals, too many wants, loss of gratitude, unrealistic it can t happen to me thinking, and omnipotence.
