2 President s Message 2016 First let me say how honored I am to lead an organization with such a rich history of service in Pettis County. I ve been ever mindful of my responsibilities set by my predecessors. For many years, the United Way organization has been all about raising dollars to help satisfy needs in the community. Most of the efforts were tied directly to the annual campaign. The result over the years has been that when people talk about United Way, invariably they discuss United Way in terms of dollars. Recently, as we have worked to develop our community impact strategies we have broadened our organization beyond the level of talking about dollars to an organization that has increasingly become focused on providing community investment opportunities for our donors, corporate & business partners, and volunteers. Simply put, we are becoming a community investment organization wanting to show results through various community investment opportunities. United Way believes that everyone is entitled to a quality education, a family, sustaining income and good health. Through our Community Impact Model, we are striving to engage our community to address root causes of key issues. To that end, we started a community Day of Caring scheduled for October 22, We also lead the effort to create Cram the Closet. This is an initiative to collect nonperishable, unmet needs in our community distributed by area service providers. Your donation will support programs addressing income, health and the following education initiatives: Preparing Youth For School High Attendance Levels Early Grade Reading Initiative We know that ensuring a quality education for all children sets them on the path to high school graduation and college success. This increases the ability for those children to hold skilled jobs and be financially equipped to support their families. We believe that everyone has a role in building a better future for all, and we invite all Pettis County residents to help us shape community-wide change. Our partners and community volunteers have answered our call to GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER. We are inspired by their participation and will continue to tackle the underlying causes of complex problems across our community. On behalf of all of us at Sedalia Pettis County United Way, thank you for your continued commitment and support to transform lives in our community. 4 CAMPAIGN Campaign Awards We are grateful to our community for coming together to raise $480,350 during the campaign. I would like to thank the nearly 120 workplaces that conducted employee campaigns in And I invite the hundreds of companies not involved to join us in the next campaign. I also want to thank the nearly 160 residential donors for their loyal giving year after year. The impact of United Way is a win-win for us all, improving lives of everyone living in Pettis County, and creating more desirable and financially stable environments in which to conduct business.
