1 Care. No Matter What 2016 ANNUAL REPORT
2 I came to Planned Parenthood for my first pregnancy. At that time, I did not have insurance. Planned Parenthood helped me get insurance. They also helped me get WIC and food stamps, because my husband was not working at the time. I loved the prenatal care they gave me. They really care about your decisions and help you with everything you need. That s why I ve decided to come to Planned Parenthood for my second pregnancy. Thank you PPHP! Sara, White Plains, NY 2 PLANNED PARENTHOOD HUDSON PECONIC
3 A Message from Our Chair & President & CEO In 2016 most of the country was focused on the Presidential election. At Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, we implemented the My Voice, My Vote campaign and spent hours registering people to vote and ensuring those who were already registered knew where to go on Election Day. Our staff members attended community events and college campuses and volunteers spoke with people in our health center waiting rooms. We engaged thousands of people through and social media posts throughout the year. Vincent Russell and Joan Rosen Unfortunately, the results of the election were not what we were hoping for. On the bright side though, since Election Day, our supporters have come out in full force to stand with Planned Parenthood. Thousands of new supporters made donations and signed petitions, and dozens of new volunteers came to us, offering to help in any way they can. All of this support is greatly appreciated by everyone at PPHP. During the year, we restructured our Patient Services Department to better meet the needs of our patients. Our Medical Director was promoted to Chief Medical Officer. We combined two positions and created Regional Director, Patient Services and Operations for the North and East. Under this new structure, we implemented several new programs including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). PrEP is a daily pill people can take to reduce their worry about exposure to HIV. When taken consistently PrEP has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection in people who are high risk by up to 92%. At the end of the year, Reina Schiffrin, our President/CEO since 2002 announced her retirement. The Board of Directors and staff of PPHP thank her for her years of leadership and commitment to our organization. As the threats to Planned Parenthood continue at the federal level, your enduring support of our mission and services means that our doors will stay open. On behalf of our patients in our health centers and the students in our education programs, thank you. Joan Rosen Chair Vincent Russell President & CEO 2016 ANNUAL REPORT 3
