Service Provider Trainings AUGUST August 17 Thursday; 1:00 3:00pm TRANSPORTATION: KEYS TO A BETTER LIFE The State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) Los Angeles Regional Office and Westside Regional Center s Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) present this free workshop on transportation options for riders with disabilities. This workshop is for riders with disabilities and the people that support them. Speakers from ACCESS Services, City Ride, MTA Buses and more will present various transportation options. August 22 & 23 Tuesday & Wednesday; 8:30am 4:00pm (2 Day Course) CRISIS PREVENTION INTERVENTION COURSE (CPI) This class is available for Westside Regional Center service providers only. You will be asked to provide your agency s WRC vendor number at the time of registration, please have it available. Non-violent crisis intervention is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to help professionals provide for the best possible care and welfare of individuals, even during the most violent situations. This course will assist the professional to develop skills in early and appropriate intervention for potential crisis situations while keeping in mind the care, welfare, safety and security of all involved. Participants should wear comfortable clothes, must be physically able to participate, must take a written pre and post-test independently, and must attend all days in order to complete this class. No exceptions! Please RSVP by phone at Payment must be made no later than August 15 to Angela Edmond in Community Services. Please make sure you sign up for the right class. There are no refunds available. If you have not taken CPI since January 2016, you will need to take the full 2-day course instead of the refresher. 2 August 24 Thursday; 8:30am 4:00pm CPI REFRESHER COURSE This class is only being offered to Westside Regional Center service providers who have a current and valid CPI certification card and need re-certification. Please note: If you have not taken CPI since January 2016, you will need to take the full 2-day course instead of the refresher, as the curriculum has changed. No refunds are available, so please ensure that you sign up for the correct class. You will be asked to provide your vendor number and current CPI certification number at the time of sign-up. Please bring your current CPI certification card to this class. Participants must take a written pre and post-test independently. Angela Edmond 5901 Green Valley Circle Suite 320 Culver City, CA, August 26 Saturday; 10:00am 11:30am INTRODUCTORY CLASS TO MINDFULNESS SERIES Parents and Care Providers: Have you ever felt overwhelmed when taking care of others or found it difficult to find the balance between your own needs and the needs of those you are helping? Mindfulness is the means by which you can reduce stress, improve attention, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of well-being in your life. Come to this FREE orientation session to learn how to manage your stress utilizing mindfulness exercises. You will have the opportunity to register for a series of group classes offered free of charge (in Spanish and English) starting in September TO PARTICIPATE: Please RSVP by calling (310) by August 18 th. August 28, 2017 September 1, 2017; 9:00am 4:00pm UNIVERSAL ENHANCEMENTS Conference Room 4A Week 1: August 28, 2017 September 1, 2017 Week 2: October 16, 2017 October 20, 2017 Week 3: November 6, 2017 November 10, 2017 Week 4: December 4, 2017 December 8, 2017 The Universal Enhancement class is a requirement to be eligible to respond to a Request or Proposal or to become a vendor who provides Supported Living, Day Services or Residential Services. Dr. Tom Pomeranz s The Principles and Practices of Universal Enhancement Course is offered one time per year at WRC s office from 9am 4pm. The course requires a commitment to participate in a 100 hours, including 4 hours of On-site Coaching at a vendor site and 96 hours of classroom instruction. Joy Tsuhako, Area Work Incentives Coordinator (AWIC) from the Social Security Administration (SSA) will present information on the disability benefits available at SSA: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Joy will also cover how work affects these cash benefits, as well as the medical benefits, Medicare and Medi-Cal. Recurring Meetings for Service Providers AUGUST August 29 Tuesday; 10:00am 12:00pm BI-MONTHLY SERVICE PROVIDER TRAINING: EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS Participants will have a basic understanding of earthquake safety and acquire tools to strengthen their emergency preparedness plan. This is your opportunity to find out about what s happening at the Regional Center, and give your input and ideas to the WRC Board of Directors. Meetings are held every other month on the third Wednesday of the month. No RSVP is required. Monthly Public Meetings AUGUST August 1 Tuesday; 6:00pm 8:00pm BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Denny s Restaurant, Culver City The Special Closed Board Meeting is being held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 6:00PM at Denny's, Jefferson Blvd., Culver City, CA Board Meetings normally take place At Westside Regional Center, 3rd Floor, Mike Danneker Board Room, but this is a Special Closed Board Meeting that will take place off-site. Everyone from the community is welcome to take part, but please note that most of the meeting will be closed session. August 15 Tuesday; 6:00PM 8:00PM SELF-DETERMINATION TASK FORCE This is a public meeting held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm. The committee shall review the developmental and ongoing progress of the Self-Determination Program, including whether the program advances the principles of self-determination and is operating consistent the Regional Center and the Department of Developmental Services. August 22 Tuesday; 5:30pm 6:30pm CLIENT SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING The Client Services Committee reviews services and policies as they relate to clients and families. They will be meeting at Westside Regional Center on Tuesday, August 22nd at 5:30pm in the Danneker Boardroom. They will be meeting to discuss proposed revisions to the WRC Service Standards for Respite in light of the repeal of the cap on Respite services that will occur January 1, August 23 Wednesday; 6:00pm 8:00pm EQUITY TASK FORCE The Equity Task Force Meeting is being held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 6:00PM at Westside Regional Center 5901 Green Valley Circle, Mike Danneker Boardroom on the 3rd Floor, Culver City, CA

5 SEPTEMBER September 6 Wednesday; 3:30pm 5:00pm CONSUMER ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) meets every first Wednesday of the month between 3:30-5:00 pm at the Westside Regional Center. The purpose of CAC is for consumer advocacy leaders in the Westside area to meet and share ideas about self-advocacy. CAC is a sub-committee of the WRC Board of Directors. All WRC consumers are invited to attend. 6 August 8 Tuesday IHSS WORKSHOP The Westside Family Resource Empowerment Center of Los Angeles is offering In Home Support Services Workshops to help families that are applying or that are providing IHSS support and need more hours. This workshop is held on the 2 nd Tuesday of every month. For more information and to RSVP call No walk-ins will be admitted. Orientation to the IHSS Program; 10:00am-12:00pm A session for people that are applying for IHSS and want to know more about the basic steps of the application process. Advanced IHSS Trainings; 12:30pm-2:30pm For people that want to learn the basic steps to appeal IHSS or are requesting a re-evaluation of IHSS hours. August 12 Saturday; 9:00am 1:00pm SIB SHOP Support group for siblings of children who have special needs. This group is for families served by Westside Regional Center only. August 15 Tuesday; 3:00pm 4:00pm LETS TALK SELF-ADVOCACY Are you an individual receiving services from WRC? Want to learn more about self-advocacy? Want to meet others who can support you in advocating for yourself? Want to get your point across and still get your needs met? Or, do you want to encourage, support or teach others the skill of advocating for themselves? If you answered YES to any of these questions, please join us. Bring your questions, ideas, bring a friend, we will listen and troubleshoot with you. THE MENTOR NETWORK FAMILY BEHAVIORAL SERVICES FOR WRC FAMILIES The Mentor s Network Family Behavioral Services (FBS) offers classes that help families with a child exhibiting behavioral challenges. Classes introduce and discuss behavioral principles and teach new skills using practical and individualized examples. Please contact your service coordinator about details for enrollment.
