1 Shop 7-24 Main Road Boolaroo (across from IGA) E: / P: Our Community Place Our Community Place is the new auspicing organisation for the Lake Macquarie City Timebanking community! We have recently taken on the role of coordinating the Timebanking program in Lake Macquarie. We have appointed a volunteer Timebanking Co-ordinator, Emily Morrison. It's great to have her on board! Timebanking is a community program that allows the voluntary exchange of services between members. It s as simple as give an hour, receive an hour: by giving one hour to helping another member, you earn one hour of time credits which can be used to receive services that are of personal value such as dog walking, ironing, community gardening, massage, language tuition, painting, administrative assistance you re only restricted by your imagination. If you like to volunteer and give time to your community, Timebanking is for you! Timebanking can help you build a network of support within your neighbourhood or community as Timebanking creates connections through sharing skills. You also earn time credits for giving your time and sharing your skills to help another member. You can then use these credits to receive services that are useful and valuable to you. In September this year, Our Community Place will be celebrating its 30 th Anniversary as a Neighbourhood Centre providing information and activities to Boolaroo and the surrounding suburbs. We are beginning to plan how we would like to recognise this important celebration. We would like to hear your suggestions to help us develop a plan for our anniversary celebration and hope that you could join us to celebrate our 30 th year. GAY Busy Brain Hub (formerly Homework Support Group) At the start of the 2017 school year, we relaunched our after school groups as Busy Brains Hub! The Hub provides support to students by our volunteers. Assistance can be given with homework, numeracy and literacy. Access to computers and internet is available. It may be as simple as a volunteer listening to a student practice reading aloud. Busy Brains Hub is run at Boolaroo Public School on Mondays 3-4pm and Speers Point School on Tuesdays 3-4pm.

3 Women s Shed on the Lake The last few months have been very busy at the Women's Shed! We commenced the year with a variety of exciting activities and projects. As a contribution to the Sensory Garden (at Boolaroo Public School),the women spent several weeks making mosaic stepping stones. This was enjoyed by all and many ladies discovered artistic talent that they never knew they had! We also spent some time making ribbon stars for The 1 Million Stars to End Violence project. Many people around the country are making these stars to raise awareness of domestic violence and they will be used as part of an art installation in Friday 23 June, 2017 FASHVI Hall 27 Fourth St, Boolaroo 11.00am In addition the these activities, we also had two workshops at Bunnings (one on painting and one on basic plumbing). These informative sessions were also great fun and many women picked up some useful tips and hints. In March, a small group of ladies also went on a visit to the Spirit of Anzac Experience in Newcastle. Women Shed Boolaroo is an inclusive group for women of all ages. All women are invited to come along to enjoy friendship, workshops, activities, support & encouragement and, of course, a cuppa and a chat! Babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers are welcome too! We have an experienced child minder to assist with caring for children On 23 June, we will be having our Official Opening! 3

5 Sensory Garden update! Have a look at the photos showing the great progress of the sensory garden project at Boolaroo Public School! We are now ready for planting. We are going to put plants on a boat, wheel barrow, bike and crate train. Looking forward to seeing the finished project! A huge thank you to all volunteers who are involved! We welcome anyone who would like to join our Garden Group and help in maintaining both vegetable and sensory garden at Boolaroo School. Held at The Willows Uniting Church in Warners Bay. Fridays from 3.30pm during school terms Breakfast Club Held weekly at Boolaroo Public School for students attending there. A nutritious breakfast is served and activities are also provided for the children. Busy Brains Hub Held weekly at both Boolaroo Public and Speers Point Public Schools. For students attending these schools. Volunteers provide support to the children with homework and literacy & numeracy Tax Help Free help for tax returns for people on low incomes. Available from July to October. Office Facilities Use of our office facilities for a minimal cost - Photocopier, phone, computer & printer (with internet access), scanner, laminator. Support We provide information, referrals and advocacy. We can also help you with resume development and job searching. Volunteering Opportunities. 8 OzHarvest Delivers food weekly to our Free Food Program. Oz Harvest collects quality surplus food from all types of food outlets and delivers it directly and free of charge to charities and organisations providing assistance to disadvantaged men, women and children in Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Newcastle The Willows Uniting Church - Warners Bay Donate the use of their centre for a Youth group. Also provide volunteers and afternoon tea for the youth group Provides volunteers to assist in our Community Vegetable Garden as well as seedling donations Uniting Church Boolaroo Donates the use of their hall for the collection and distribution of food to people who come to the Free Food Program.
