1 Weekly Announcements for December 3-7 All students received mid-term exam and exam exemption information this week. This information is also posted on our schools website. How would you like to help a child in need this Christmas? DECA will be hosting their 3rd Annual DECA s Toy Box- a toy drive in partnership with The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter. Bring in new toys for kids ages 1-2 and ages 5-9. The third period class to collect the most toys will win a PIZZA PARTY!!! To participate, bring toys in to Mrs. Spradley (room 503) to get credit for your 3rd period class. Then, join us in your ugliest Christmas sweater for our

2 wrapping party December 12th during FAB lunch. Whoever has the ugliest sweat will win a PRIZE! Donated toys should be new, unwrapped, and unopened. Good luck and Happy Holidays from DECA! Balfour will be here on Thursday, December 6 during all lunch periods to deliver class rings and take any make-up orders for caps and gowns. Attention All National Honor Society Members: Pick up a NHS Scholarship packet from Ms. Cauthen in Room 108. Opportunity for students to give back to our community: The Cartersville Exchange Club is a great organization working to make our community better by providing for students in need. The Exchange Club is looking for student volunteers who can help organize donated items, including food, at their facility in preparation for their December Distribution Week, which will take place Monday, December 10th through Friday, December 14th. Fortunately, their facility is conveniently located at 234 Nelson Street, which is about three (3) suites to the left of the Tuesday Morning store (shopping center across the street from the Cartersville Board of Education). If students are interested in volunteering, please

4 contact Mrs. Beverly Shaw at , or stop by and see Mrs. Tierce for information. Homestead Hospice is looking for student volunteers who can help with a wide variety of jobs within their facility. Volunteer hours can be listed on college applications and resumes. Please see Mrs. Tierce if you are interested in volunteering at Homestead Hospice, which is walking distance from the school. Mrs. Lisa Bell is offering JOLT lessons on FAB Wednesdays. The next lesson will be held this Wednesday, December 5 in lab 301 during session one of FAB Wednesday tutoring. The lesson will topic is finding out who you are and what you like to do. The JOLT lessons are designed to help students

5 develop skills that will prepare them for college and career success. Parent Survey Link: parents Art Show-The Art Club is hosting an art show on December 17 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium. The deadline for entering artwork is November 26. Students, if you are interested in entering the contest, please see the informational flyer posted at the end of this newsletter. We hope many of you will either enter the contest or come out and enjoy the art show on December 17. You do not have to be a member of the Art Club or in an art class to enter the art show/contest. The Theatre Department's next show is ELF, The Christmas Musical. Please come

6 out and support our theatre students on Saturday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 at the door. Bartow Against Drugs works to educate students and families about the dangers of drug use. Their website, provides valuable information for families. Parents and students can also text to to receive information from Bartow Against Drugs. HYGIENE FOR HUMANITY DRIVE November 9th December 19th Donate small travel size items of shampoo, soap, toothpaste/brush, deodorant, etc. in your Social Studies class. These will be used to make Hygiene kits for several local organizations. The class that gets the most donations will get donuts for the entire

7 class. For more info come by the Media Center. Come to the media center to answer the December s question. You could be a winner too! The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meets every Friday morning in the auditorium at 7:45 a.m. All CHS students are invited to join the meetings! Read the Most Books, Win a Prize!!! For every book you read, submit an entry form. In December we will see who has the most books read and they will get the prize! Come by the Media Center for more information. Students..Lost and Found is located in the Main Office. Please check if you have lost an item before the end of each month.

We just want to make students and parents are aware that our school's USA Test Prep subscription includes ACT and SAT test prep components. 11 cartersville high school shout-outs Congratulations to our Varsity Girls Swim Team for qualifying in ALL three relays for the state swim meet! Relay team members are Grayson Breedlove, Rachel Long, Gracie Siniard, and Giulia Vidoli. Congratulations to this year's Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership participants, Evan Grizzle and Sanaa Rowser. They will represent CHS at the youth leadership conference at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.m
