3 01 01 Strength in Numbers Strength in Numbers 5 - Annual Report 16/17 This was another year of outstanding growth and development for The Sovini Group, as we welcomed two more members into the Group and posted a record high turnover. trength in Our innovative group structure has allowed us to maintain steady and sustainable growth. During 2016/17 The Carroll Group became part of the Group, enhancing our new build and waste management offer, providing construction and waste management services to our Group members and to their list of already established clients. In October 2016 Sovini Charities was established as part of The Sovini Group. At this point the Pride of Sefton joined the Group. The Pride of Sefton is a not-forprofit organisation that operates a narrow boat along the historic Leeds and Liverpool Canal, offering free trips to under-privileged and disabled people as well as educational trips for the local community. These trips are financed through a combination of donations, grants and commercial trips made available to the general public.
4 01 Strength in Numbers 7 - Annual Report 16/ /17 saw Sovini Trade Supplies (STS) generate an annual turnover of over 7.9m, which is a 34% increase on the previous year. STS provides an extensive range of products to house builders, repairs and maintenance firms, and public sector bodies in the North West. Our commercial companies have continued to flourish, delivering work for our not-for-profit members, while also providing services that offer quality and value for money to a growing list of external clients. This ongoing success across the Group has allowed us to provide significant investment in social housing and our local communities, as profits generated by our commercial arm are invested in our notfor-profit companies. Our annual turnover for 2016/17 was in excess of 70m, which is the highest recorded turnover for The Sovini Group since our inception, and was so for the sixth year running, generating an operating surplus of over 17m. Sovini Property Services (SPS) achieved an annual turnover of 20.8m, which was an increase of 12% on the previous year. SPS offers full facilities management services for social housing clients, and property maintenance support for commercial and public sector organisations.
5 01 Strength in Numbers 9 - Annual Report 16/17 The Carroll Group is made up of two companies, Carroll Build and Carroll Waste. Since joining the Group in 2016, Carroll Build recorded an annual turnover of 5.5m and Carroll Waste a turnover of 0.9m. Carroll Build provides construction services to members within the Group and to an established list of external clients. Carroll Waste provide waste management services to members of the Group and are also enhancing their service offer and expanding their client base.
6 02 02 Be Yourself Be Yourself 11 - Annual Report 16/17 Our innovative Group model provides the platform for each of our companies to thrive, while maintaining their individual identities and goals. Our collaborative model means that profits generated by our commercial companies can be invested in our not-for-profit members. Since joining The Sovini Group in 2016, The Pride of Sefton have set challenging aims and objectives for the coming years. e Yourself With support from the Group they hope to improve their operating efficiency and expand their activities, with the savings being reinvested, providing more trips and educational experiences and a further boat being planned in the future.

Social Landlord of the Year at the Housing Excellence Awards, with judges praising winners for doing excellent work and working Pine Court completed the build of their first new development in nearly a decade in 2016, which was largely funded by a 1.4m Gift Aid donation from The Sovini Group. This was Pine Court s first affordable housing scheme, with over 50% of the lettings to BME customers. They were presented with communities in with the award for a very special way.
8 03 The Right Fit 15 - Annual Report 16/17 03 The Right Fit The Sovini Group is an award winning employer, committed to providing a platform where every member of staff is able to reach their potential in an environment that encourages and celebrates development. he Right We continue to invest in recruiting and retaining the best talent at all levels, across all of our companies. We operate an apprenticeship scheme across a number of companies within the Group, giving young people the opportunity to gain employment and training, as well as working in partnership with the Veterans in Sefton to offer employment opportunities to former members of the Armed Forces.
9 03 The Right Fit 17 - Annual Report 16/17 In 2017, The Sovini Group was named as one of the best places to work in Europe. Ranked in Europe s top ten best places at a special ceremony in Paris, we join the likes of Microsoft, Ferrari and 3M, who have all previously been ranked. The award also put The Sovini Group in the top three large companies to work for and the UK s best workplace outside London. Carroll Build adopts a conscientious approach to health and safety, ensuring all processes are followed so that employees are safe of Roofing Contractors Safety in Roofing Awards. We work to the highest health and safety standards across all of our companies to ensure each employee is able to work in a safe and positive environment. As a reflection of this, in 2016, The Sovini Group was named the best organisation in our sector at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards. in and around their working environment. In recognition of this, the construction company were awarded Gold Excellence in the National Federation This annual award scheme recognises companies that are committed to health and safety and are determined by a team of independent adjudicators.
10 04 Built on Trust 19 - Annual Report 16/17 04 Built on Trust The Sovini Group s aim is to create lasting legacies in the communities in which we work. Each member of the Group is committed to generating benefits to the wider community, through services that offer value for money, employment opportunities and projects that generate social value. uilt on To help us achieve this, we work within the ISO framework for Social Responsibility, ensuring that everything we do is conducted in a way that is ethical, transparent and contributes to the health and welfare of society. One Vision Housing and Pine Court Housing Association both have a Community Development Fund, with which they contribute thousands of pounds per year, to community projects and organisations. We use the Housing Association Charitable Trust (HACT) Social Value Tool Kit as a way of independently assessing the impact our services have on the local community.
11 04 Built on Trust 21 - Annual Report 16/17 The Sovini Group is committed to operating in a way that is sustainable and causes as little environmental impact as possible. All of our businesses look for ways of working that are more efficient and reduce the carbon footprint of the Group. 2016/17 saw a reduction of 41% in the Group carbon footprint, compared to our base-line year of 2010/11, bringing our carbon emissions down to the equivalent of 5.5 tonnes of CO2 per FTE compared with the national average of 9.8. STS have dedicated recycling facilities for confidential waste, cardboard, packaging and timber and during 2016/17, 95% of all waste generated from both the office and the stores was recycled. One Vision Housing Financial Inclusion Officers worked with tenants to ensure that they are receiving all of the benefits to which they are entitled. They also provided advice and guidance to customers that were experiencing difficulty with debt. We budgeted 110,068 towards this and generated a social value return of 40,082,544 which equates to 364 for every 1 spent. One Vision Housing ran job clubs, where customers that were looking for employment could attend and get help in searching and applying for vacancies. With a budget of 31,956, the social value generated was 290,567 which equates to 9 for every 1 spent.
12 05 The Winning Formula 23 - Annual Report 16/17 05 The Winning Formula In 2016/17 companies across The Sovini Group were recognised with prestigious awards and accreditations. The Sovini Group was named the best organisation in its sector and in the top five organisations UK-wide at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards he Win- The Sovini Group surpassed the competition in the Public Service and Local Government sector and were presented with the award during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.
13 05 The Winning Formula In 2016 Sovini Property Services (SPS) was recognised as the best repairs and maintenance provider in the country at the 24Housing Awards SPS claimed the award ahead of five other shortlisted repairs and maintenance providers to be crowned the best in the UK. Judges singled out SPS s partnership working with the Veterans in Sefton as the initiative that set them apart from the competition. This year The Sovini Group was praised for our unique, partnership approach to repairs and maintenance, being awarded Most Innovative Repairs & Maintenance Scheme at the Housing Innovation Awards and singled out our major investment in our retirement accommodation as a shining example. The investment in our retirement accommodation includes dementia friendly makeovers of the properties to them make brighter, The judges extolled more attractive the virtues of and easier for the our collaborative residents to navigate.
