That s when you know you need to start looking to set completion dates for any 2015 projects on your Performance Appraisal. Don t forget to also review your personal career goals to make sure you move forward with your Professional Development. Check out our programs that we have lined up for you over the next several months. Hopefully this schedule will give you some training or knowledge to add to your professional developmental goals. Have you signed up for the September membership meeting on September 15th? The pre-meeting will include a demonstration on 3D printing. The dinner presentation is about the Internet of Things (IOT) and Cloud Technology. I hope you are able to join us for this dinner meeting. I am attending the KU Supply Chain Meet the Professionals event this week. When I got the invitation I contacted my CPO and asked him why we had not hired any of these graduates into our Strategic Sourcing organization although they have been hired into other areas of BNSF. He promptly requested that someone from Human Resources accompany me to the event. I am energized by this opportunity and look forward to speaking once again with the students who are majoring in Supply Chain Management. For some of us this was not an option when we were in college. I think these students will advance our profession and will only help to further prove how Supply Chain professionals can improve the bottom line for our companies. We want to invite you, and any others that are interested in learning about what ISM-KC has to offer you, to join us for a pre-meeting just before our October 20 th meeting. Thinking about becoming a member but running on a tight budget? Many, if not all of us, are experiencing shrinking budgets, but the expectation of maintaining a high level of performance in our organizations. Membership in ISM-KC can provide not only training opportunities about current topics, but great networking too. A regular membership provides opportunities for you at both the local and national level. If your corporate budget is a little smaller this year, but you still want to provide your Procurement professionals with learning and networking opportunities, check out our associate memberships. We are looking for young purchasing/supply chain management professionals who deserve to be applauded for their passion, creativity and contributions to supply chain. Help us celebrate the accomplishments of the best and brightest. Nominate a rising star (or throw your own hat into the ring) who is not only making a difference today but is also inspiring others to follow in their footsteps tomorrow. As partners, ThomasNet and ISM share a common objective to give supply chain management and purchasing professionals the resources and information they need to succeed. That s why we have established complimentary ISM membership as the reward for our 30 rising supply chain stars, and will send one megawatt professional (and the person who nominated him/her) to ISM2016. 8 PAGE 8 ISM-KANSAS CITY NEWSLETTER ISM-Kansas City Outreach Committee As mentioned in last month s Message from the President, the Outreach Committee is expanding its role to include outreach to partnering organizations in addition to its traditional focus on diversity. The new committee will: A. Meet with like-minded Partnering Organizations to develop and foster teamwork and expand the ISM-Kansas City members opportunities for professional development by teaming with strategic organizations. B. Seek affiliations and partnership opportunities with diverse suppliers in the Kansas City business community and utilize those affiliations to promote ISM-Kansas City. i. Do you work for a MWBE organization and have interest in presenting at one of our meetings? Contact us! C. Expand diverse supplier outreach and promote membership growth by initiating an ISM-Kansas City Diverse Supplier Listing that could be utilized by members. i. Have a diverse supplier that you would like to be added to our directory? Contact one of the Outreach Committee Chairs listed below! We are very excited to bring this larger role to the committee. In addition to our unchanging focus on Supplier Diversity education and professional development, it is our objective to now also expand opportunities for networking and professional development with organizations and businesses that share similar goals to ISM-KC. 9 ISM-KANSAS CITY NEWSLETTER PAGE 9 We invite you to get involved with ISM-Kansas City by attending the meetings and becoming a committee member. The committees listed below provide opportunities for you to participate, and during the nine months we meet, members generally spend less than 2 hours per month! That s immediate return on investment for the networking and leadership skills that result from your participation. Where is your passion or desire to learn? No experience required! You will find the work rewarding and fun. Please let Michelle Burdine know if you are interested (Michelle.Burdine@BNSF.com or ). Standing Committees Communication Besides the managing the website, this group is responsible for sending monthly communications to the membership, and publishing the newsletter. Outreach While all of the committees work together cross-functionally as needed, this committee has the broadest of responsibilities to find outside opportunities that will bring value to our membership by reaching out to the Diversity council and other professional organizations in Kansas City. Their efforts will bring information and programs to our membership. Education This committee has the charge to plan and roll-out larger seminars, such as the CPSM study course, and manage the scholarship program. April is ISM Awareness month. Marketing The Marketing Committee identifies and takes advantage of opportunities for corporate, university and student outreach. This includes social media and attending events to raise awareness about ISM-Kansas City. We are currently seeking committee members and a new marketing director! Membership This team takes care of membership campaigns, new member orientations and membership renewals. Nominating Become familiar with those who can take an active interest in ISM-Kansas City. Programs Programs for membership meetings are held January through May and August through November. The committee is responsible for identifying speakers, tours and the logistics associated with those meetings. Special Events (Golf) Some of the events are larger in nature and require a dedicated team to drive. In this case, we have a Golf Committee that is responsible for giving oversight to this annual fund-raising event.
