1 Warsaw FFA Chapter Chatter Welcome Back Volume 1, Issue 1 Summer Edition June-September 2017 Although it my be sad that summer is coming to an end, Warsaw FFA has plenty of activities that have just began! We want to welcome you back from the extended break and invite you to get involved. Whether it be community service events, CDE s, or any chapter event, it isn't difficult for members, parents, and community members to be active within the chapter. We encourage you to find your niche in Warsaw FFA, and welcome you to our chapter! Officer Team Elected in May, this new officer team is pumped to start the new school year off strong! They are determined and dedicated to serve the chapter. 2 Page 2 Warsaw FFA Chapter Chatter #ThrowbackToStateConvention 10 Warsaw FFA Members along with advisors Mr. Riley & Ms. Carrell had the opportunity to travel to the 88th Indiana FFA State Convention at Purdue University. The convention was held from June 20th-22nd. During the week members had the chance to attend sessions, explore the Purdue Campus, get to know each other and compete in contests. The Jr. high quiz bowl team, Jacob B., and Morgan S. all placed in the top 12 in their respected contest area. Ciara S. received 2nd place with her horticulture demonstration, and Morgan S. was named the District II President. Zach H., Morgan S., and Ciara S. received their Hoosier degrees. All members had a great time and look forward to working towards next year s convention! Young McDonalds Barn I really liked interacting with the animals and children, especially the pigs. -Abria F. The Kosciusko County fair is filled with fried food, fun rides, and farm animals. During this week the community engages with agriculture on a whole new level, and the Warsaw FFA Chapter is honored to be part of that engagement. At the YMB Warsaw FFA members host young animals donated by community members for the week and oversee the interaction between young community members and the animals. This is a great opportunity for members to interact with the community and spread the word about agriculture. Warsaw FFA loves providing this event because for some of the kids that come through the barn, it is their first ever interaction with animals such as cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, etc. and a great way to introduce them to the industry. Tom Farms Appreciation Supper ciation supper. Members recited opening ceremonies, helped serve food and ice cream, provide child care, raffle gifts, and transport over 600 people throughout the evening. Tom Farms provides this annual supper to show their gratitude for the customers and community; On Thursday, August 17th, 16 Warsaw FFA members and a number of Wawasee FFA members traveled to Tom Farms to assist with their annual appreand they have asked Warsaw to assist with the supper for many years. The guests and members enjoyed a variety of foods along with a presentation by Trent Loos and a visit from the National FFA Association.

Owning your own jacket gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment, and every time you zip it up provides the confidence to conquer the world. FFA Jackets are personalized with each members name and provides a place to display pins earned from contests and events members participate in. Dues Dues this year are $20 and need to be paid by September 27th! Paying membership dues will cover national, state, district, and chapter fees allowing you to participate in events throughout the year. By paying your dues on time, you will meet one of the requirements for the National Farm Machinery Show trip! If you have any questions or would like to pay your dues, contact treasurer Zach H. via , zacharyvhoward18@warsawschools.org Carson s Community Day Booklets Selling Carson s Community Day Booklets is a great way to raise money for Warsaw FFA! Members are encouraged to sell books to community members for $5, this money then goes back into the member s account and helps pay for items such as: jack- District II Kickoff ets, dues, t-shirts, camps, and more. The sale runs from September 1st-November 3rd and the booklets are available for use November 8th- 11th. The coupon booklet includes over $500 in coupons including a $10 off any purchase and a 30% off certain items. The kickoff was held on Monday, September 18th at Bremen High School. Kicking off the night, district officers presented opening ceremonies and turned the floor over to Ivy Tech Community College. The Representative gave information about the college and then released the members to participate in the leadership development activities. Each group was made up of 2 state advisors and 2 district officers. Some the activities include becoming a leader and discovering how to engage. District President Morgan Smith said the kickoff is designed to, teach members how to be inclusive in their chapters, be a leader who helps others, and how to get involved and get others involved in FFA.

4 Page 4 Warsaw FFA Chapter Chatter Fall CDEs (Career Development Events) Career Development Events are a great way to not only get involved in FFA but also further your knowledge and skills focused on topics you enjoy! Fall CDE s include crops, forestry, entomology and parliamentary procedure. Crops, forestry, and entomology practices will begin September 25th from 3-4pm in the high school ag rooms. Crops includes the FFA Football Tailgate identification of weeds, crops and seedling samples; forestry is the identification of leaves, woods, and seeds; lastly entomology is the identification and knowledge of insects. Parliamentary procedure will have a callout practice on Tuesday, September 19th. During parli, members will demonstrate how to run a meeting following Roberts rule of order. Football season always brings people together; whether it be drinking hot chocolate and watching the big play or tailgating, football brings out the American spirit! The Warsaw FFA Chapter hosteda football tailgate after the homecoming parade, before the homecoming game on Friday, September 15th. A layout from the evening s events were the following: outdoor activities, hamburger cookout, and chapter bonding. Thanks to everyone that joined us for a fun filled evening! Community Appreciation Supper & Worker Auction On Tuesday, November 21st, the Warsaw FFA Chapter will be hosting their 15th annual Community Appreciation Supper & Worker Experience Auction in the WCHS cafeteria. The evening will begin with a free chili and hot dog supper that will be served from 5:30-7:30pm. FFA members will be serving supper to show their appreciation for the support businesses and community members have provided over the years. Following dinner, the member worker auction will kick off at 6:30pm. FFA members volunteer 4 hours of community service in return for a monetary donation to our chapter to support activities throughout the year. The dona- tions will help fund activities such as conventions, career development events, contests, and monthly chapter activities. Attending the annual event is a great way to support your local FFA chapter and impact members! All community members and businesses are invited to join us for the evening! 5 Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 5 National Farm Machinery Show Being chosen to go to the National Farm Machinery Show shows that you, as a member, have thrived during the first half of the year. This incentive program is used as a way to get members involved and excited about participating in some of our biggest events! Requirements to attend are the following: have dues paid by September 27th, attend 4/6 monthly meetings, sell at least 8 items of fruit/ cheese/sausage, participate in the community appreciation supper & auction, and participate in 2 community service projects. Meeting all of the listed requirements will result in a free trip to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky on February 16th For more qualification details or any questions please contact Reagan Rowland. Warsaw FFA Helps Hurricane Harvey Victims As we all know Hurricane Harvey has left many parts of Texas in devastation, leaving people without food, basic supplies, and shelter. Member Madie Lane, and her brother Hunter, have a special tie to the victims as they moved here from Woodville, Texas last year. Thanks to commit- tee chair Madie L. and co-chair Ayden A., Warsaw FFA will be collecting items to help ones affected by Hurricane Harvey all over Texas. The committee was formed at the August Meeting and has been holding meetings during SRT and after school to plan for the event. Items they are collecting include the following: gift cards, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, baby supplies, hygiene, and school supplies. There will be a contest between the classrooms, and the students that collect the most items will get to throw a pie in their teachers face! The Warsaw FFA Chapter has been able to thrive with the help of many individuals, families, and businesses throughout the years. Due to the large amount of interest, we will be starting a Warsaw FFA Alumni Chapter! The goal of an alumni chapter is to provide support, help raise funds, and assist with activities within the FFA Chapter. Anyone within the community is welcome to be part of the Alumni Chapter, businesses, families, individuals, past members, etc. To be part of the alumni chapter there is a $10 fee per year; however, you may opt to become a lifetime member for $160. More information will be available soon so you can sign up and become an active member of the alumni chapter! Please contact advisor Mr.Jacob Riley with questions.

6 Featured Officer: Reporter Regan Rowland Now entering her 4th year in FFA, officer Reagan Rowland is ready to serve the chapter! Reagan has participated in many activities in FFA including crops judging, being on the parli team, and leadership contests; however, her favorite is crops judging. Outside of FFA she enjoys 4-H and spending time with her family and friends. This year she is looking forward to getting to know the members and spend time with them at different events! Featured Member: Dakotah Easterday This edition s feature member is currently in eighth grade. Dakotah has been in FFA for 2 years, currently holds her Discovery degree, and will be reaching towards getting her green hand degree next year! She has participated in Quiz Bowl and many other activities throughout the year such as committees and community service projects, but her favorite activities include all of the trips we take. Ms.Easterday is most looking forward to this years farm machinery show trip in February! Featured Advisor: Ms.Julie Carrell As a 2nd year teacher here at Warsaw Community High School Ms.Carrell is looking forward to many events in FFA, with the Adopt-a-Family being at the top of that list. She attended Lebanon High School and was part of the FFA chapter for 4 years. During her time in FFA she loved to participate in the FFA Olympics and National FFA Week. She also par- ticipated in creed speaking. Outside of FFA Carrell was a 10 4-H member and was a member of her local church.
