It was magnificent and much appreciated Thank You, Ladies!! Newsletter Additions Beginning with this Issue, the Northfields Newsletter will introduce you to a neighbor or two; some people you may know, or perhaps someone you do not know. We are a Community of 120 homes filled with busy active families, we thought it might be nice to know a bit about each other. Please send nominations to Melissa and we will incorporate an introduction or two in every newsletter. We will also be introducing new owners, giving them a warm welcome to the community. Northfields Play Group Submitted by: Jennifer Barnard Attention Northfields Moms: Are you looking to meet up with other moms and kids in the neighborhood and so you and your kids can laugh, build friendships and have fun? The goal is to create a meet up group to fit the needs of moms looking for other neighborhood mommy friends to connect with and more importantly for our kiddos to create relationships and have fun playing together. Meet ups will be fun, local and kept simple. They can take place at the clubhouse, playground (in the warmer weather), each other's homes, or a venue or place of choice! Since many of us work, we just ask that you find some time on a late weekday afternoon and/or Saturdays/ Sundays. 2 Page 2 MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR Submitted by: Rosemarie Lannon Meet Your Neighbor ROBERT (BOB) JOHNSON, Beechwood Drive Bob and Ellen have been residents here since Ellen once remarked that they decided to move to Northfields because of the way people waved when you drove by. Bob recently retired as the President of the Massachusetts Special Olympics where he worked for 23 years. Prior to Special Olympics, he held senior positions with the MA Dept. of Education/Special Needs division. Bob holds 3 degrees from Westfield State. Bob and Ellen are the proud parents of four children and eight grandchildren. So the next time Bob drives by in his new white F150 truck give him a wave.he LOVES that truck! Meet Your Neighbor CONNIE CONNORS, Beechwood Drive Connie and her family were very early residents of Northfields; moving here in February Connie grew up in Worcester MA. Some of you may remember Connie's husband John, who served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for several years. Sadly, John passed away in Connie and John raised 8 children and Connie is the proud Grandma of 9 grandchildren. Connie loves to garden and if you drive all the way down Beechwood in the early mornings you may see her lovingly tending her beautiful garden. Connie, like the rest of us can't wait for the warm weather! WELCOME NEW OWENRS We are pleased that you have chosen beautiful Northfields for your new home, and we heartily welcome you to our friendly and caring community. New Owners: Jeffrey and Laurie Couture, 23 Rosewood Drive. Jeff and Laurie downsized to a one level home moving to Northfields from Homestead Acres in Methuen. 3 Page 3 COMMON AREA COMMITTEE REPORT Submitted by: Jean Hamilton The common area committee tries to identify areas that need repair replacement or other attention. The areas identified are brought to the attention of the Board of Trustees and then prioritized with the Ground Superintendent. The areas must be prioritized as the work must be integrated with the regular work schedule of the staff. We encourage all residents who notice issues that need addressed to forward the information to Melissa Silvio who will forward the information to the committee for review. We will try to have all issues prioritized and post the list in the next newsletter. Superintendents Corner Dear Residents I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Monica and I had a great time at our second annual community holiday party. I would like to thank everyone for welcoming us. Winter is a time for Dave and I to go through the equipment and make sure everything is in good working order. We also take time to go through the pool furniture and repair and paint anything that has been broken or has faded. Plowing can be a challenge in the large storms and I would like to thank everyone that keeps their vehicles off the street and out of common driveways during the storms. Please continue to direct any snow removal comments or concerns to Melissa and we will respond in a timely manner. Our new sander has made sand and salt applications very efficient and helped us get the roads back to bare pavement faster than ever. The brief January thaw provided an opportunity to reapply snow mold control to the greens. This will help ensure a healthy start to the 2014 golf season. We have a new agronomic plan for the greens this season. We will incorporate growth regulators in our fertilization program. These applications will help to smooth out and speed up the greens. I am excited to continue improving the community throughout the 2014 season and we welcome all comments and suggestions as we work to create a beautiful and sustainable environment in the community. 4 Page 4 CLUBHOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT Submitted by Rosemarie Lannon, Chair The Clubhouse Renovations Committee is busy at work redesigning and refurbishing the "library." Due to the small spaces and lack of extra storage, this room has begun to collect various pieces of furniture, etc. Our goal is to develop this space into a golf themed library, with comfortable seating and free book exchanges. The Committee meets monthly and is always open to new members. Please send Melissa an if you'd like to work with us. The Northfields website has recently been updated and includes a new tab for Work Order Requests. This tab is located on the bottom left hand column of the home page. Any requests submitted through the website are sent to Melissa at Harvard Management. We hope that this will make it easier for residents to submit requests. As a reminder the website has a contractor page. If you have a recommended contractor please submit their information to Melissa, after checking with the contractor that it is okay to post their business information. REDUCED FEE FOR CLUBHOUSE RENTALS We are pleased to announce that effective January 2014 the Clubhouse Reservation Fee has been lowed from $150 to $100. The security deposit will remain at $150, and is returned after the rental so long as everything is cleaned up and there is no damage to the clubhouse. The Clubhouse is the perfect place to hold an event. As you may have seen, many improvements have been made to the clubhouse over the past couple of years thanks to the Clubhouse committee. 5 Page 5 WINTER REMINDERS So far this winter we have had our fair share of snow storms. We have received some good feedback on the snow removal efforts, and your comments are appreciated. It is always nice to hear what the residents think, so please feel free to share your thoughts. A few winter reminders: During the winter months there is no overnight parking on the street It is a good idea to periodically check that snow stakes are up and replace any that may have fallen Please refrain from snow blowing or shoveling any snow into the roadways or common drives Report any plow damage in writing to msilvio@harvardmanagement.com or by letter as soon as it occurs. All plow damage should be reported no later than April 15th. If a Board vote is needed, the item may need to go on the monthly meeting agenda. The Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month., so any requests to have an item on the agenda or to attend the open portion of the meeting must be into Harvard Management by the first Friday of the month. The open portion is the first fifteen minutes of the meeting. If you would like to send in written correspondence and do not have , please use the below address. Please do not mail correspondence with your monthly payment as this will delay the receipt of your letter as monthly payments are sent directly to a lock box at the bank. On recent windy days we have had trash bins blow over, which in turns blows trash around the community. If you notice that your trash has blown over, please make every effort to pick it up.
