2 BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Expanded number of professionals in the community committed to effective and ethical fundraising with a 14% increase in membership; Advanced knowledge of effective and ethical fundraising practices for 163 practitioners as as May 2018, increasing attendance at monthly education functions by 11%; Increased the number of nationally recognized speakers at education functions, expanding the knowledge base of local nonprofit community; Promoted professional certification by altering education function format to allow for continuing education credit and by creating a scholarship for professionals needing financial assistance to pursue certification. PRIMARY GOALS: Enhance membership experience. A membership survey was implemented; Develop superlative practitioners. High-quality educational programming and ethics education are focuses for the coming year; Strengthen the profession/educate external audiences. We promote and defend public policy that encourages philanthropy, supporting principles important to AFP and the fundraising profession. Needs Statement AFP SWFL strives to provide the highest level educational experience on a range of topics, sometimes necessitating bringing speakers in from outside our community. Speaker fees and travel expenses $3,000 annually. The nonprofit job bank is the relied upon by employers and professionals within the nonprofit community to ensure agencies are able to find the qualified staff to fulfill their missions. Maintaining nonprofit job bank $2500 annually. AFP works to advance the fundraising knowledge of all nonprofit professionals, regardless of their organization s budget. Scholarship funds for membership, continuing education or CFRE certification $1000 annually. National Philanthropy Day celebrates the impact of philanthropy on our community while raising funds to promote effective and ethical fundraising. Sponsorships from $500 - $5,000 Background Statement In 1960, three fundraisers met for lunch in New York City to discuss an idea they had been toying with for a while: creating an association for charitable fundraisers. Therein lies the beginning of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the professional association of individuals and organizations that generate philanthropic support for a wide variety of charitable institutions. AFP advances philanthropy through its more than 31,000 members in 235 chapters throughout the world. Our local chapter was started in 1990 with 10 members in just the Sarasota area. We then expanded north to Manatee and south to Ft. Myers. In 2011, our southern most members began a chapter in Pt. Charlotte that we sponsored with 66 members and the Sarasota/Manatee chapter now has 164 members. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Statement from the Board Chair As a professional membership-driven organization that is governed by a volunteer board, the AFP Southwest Florida Chapter has been recognized for several accomplishments during its history. Some of these successes include being recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals International Headquarters as a Ten Star Chapter, one of just 87 chapters out of 246 total chapters to receive this prestigious designation. Ten Star Chapters have demonstrated outstanding programming and leadership for the fundraising profession, and excel in promoting ethical and effective fundraising and educating the public about the importance of philanthropy and wise giving. Additionally, the AFP Southwest Florida chapter has been actively involved in the Florida Caucus leadership for 2

3 several years, with chapter members serving as Caucus Treasurer, Caucus Secretary and as Planet Philanthropy Conference Chair. The Southwest Florida Chapter is also represented across the state with board members serving as program presenters and training facilitators for other chapters, as well as one of our board members serving as the CFRE master trainer for development professionals who are seeking to earn this certification. The AFP Southwest Florida Chapter has experienced much success, due in large part, to its very committed volunteer board and active membership community. The AFP Southwest Florida Chapter is also growing its membership with a focused effort on connecting more development professionals through outreach and communication. We review our Strategic Plan yearly. Through this diligent effort, the Chapter board has identified specific goals: Primary Goals for AFP Southwest FL Chapter: 1)Develop skilled, knowledgeable and ethical professionals. 2) Advance effective, ethical and accountable fundraising standards and programs 3)Deliver optimal value to members 4) Engage young professionals and youth exploring philanthropy and building their fundraising careers. Secondary Goals: 1) Aggressively promote and defend public policy that encourages philanthropy, supporting principles important to AFP and the fundraising profession. 2) Supports community of inclusion, and will seek, embrace and engage diverse individuals, groups and organizations with a broad representation of experiences, perspectives, thoughts and cultures within the fundraising profession. 3) Provide strong leadership in promoting and supporting the fundraising community worldwide. The Executive Committee will have responsibility for oversight of the strategic plan and monitoring progress toward the stated goals. Internal and external communications will be coordinated in an annual plan to increase visibility, enhance the member experience and help improve the Chapter s effectiveness. Ethics training and resources will be accessible to all Chapter members to strengthen the profession and philanthropy in our area. The Membership Committee will lead recruitment of new members and promote the benefits of AFP membership to enhance the overall member experience and diversity within the Chapter. A retention rate of 80% will be maintained and membership will grow annually. The Chapter will demonstrably strengthen the fundraising profession by providing programs above and beyond the monthly sessions. Satisfaction with programs will be monitored regularly. Scholarships will be awarded to help recruit new members, provide professional development for Chapter members and encourage pursuit of the CFRE credential. Myers areas. We sponsored a new chapter in Pt. Charlotte in 2011 and we now serve just Manatee and Sarasota counties. 4 PROGRAMS Fundraisers Forum Description The annual conference gathers more than 150 regional fundraising and planned giving professionals for a half-day of networking, lectures and workshops. Long term success is reflected in attendance - the event meets the needs of professionals as evidenced by "sell out" attendance each year. A satisfaction survey is completed by attendees after the event. 98% of those responded enjoy the event and felt they learned a great deal. The remaining 2 percent omitted comments.
