2 This Week Important Safety Message from the OLLI Director: It has been brought to my attention that OLLI members in Wieboldt Hall are overfilling the elevators, primarily at 12pm when morning study groups end. School of Professional Studies staff have observed OLLI members cramming too many people into the middle bank of elevators, making it unsafe for those entering and exiting the elevators, particularly those with walkers. Please use common sense when using the elevators and do not overfill them. Wait for the next elevator, or alternatively use the Kellogg elevator bank, which can be entered on the 4th floor, south side of the building. I want you all to be safe! ATTENTION ALL COORDINATORS Coordinator Forums Week of March 26 Coordinators, watch your for your invitation to the Coordinator Forums being held on each campus. 10 Cincinnati: The Queen City Responds to Competition in the Middle West Friday, April 6, 2018 at 6pm 405 Church St., Evanston (Congdon Shaffer Mansion) What happened when a celebrity and media darling was displaced by younger rivals. During the first half of the nineteenth century, Cincinnati, Ohio was the biggest, fastest-growing, and most watched city west of the Appalachian Mountains. But by the late 1860s, Cincinnati had been surpassed in population by Chicago and St. Louis. The Queen City's civic elite did not just cry in their beer; they launched a number of endeavors to remake their city and its reputation. Henry Binford, associate professor of history, will discuss their achievements and failures which may be of interest, as Chicago and so many other cities strive to become successfully post-industrial. Click here to learn more. Questions? Contact Amy Danzer at a-danzer@northwestern.edu Library Reminder for All Members The Northwestern Libraries now require a chipped Wildcard for entrance. However the library staff are aware that the OLLI students' cards are not chipped. For entrance, simply present your Wildcard to the staff member at the desk and they will scan the barcode or just buzz you in.
