5 L I G H T F O R T H E J O U R N E Y Page 5 From the Board Chair Good Morning BRE Family!! As we are now in the start of Summer and the temp's. have not let us forget that, we have a lot going on for the remainder of the Year. With our Gathering at Tekoa in July, our Leadership Training class in August (see Page 9 for dates and times), we are hoping that we have great support for both of these. I really want to stress the importance as we gear up for the next Walk in October, that the community comes out in full force to support from Thursday-Sunday where you can. Also don't forget the prayer vigil and crank up the ovens for some home made Agape. But probably the biggest area we MUST continue to support is sponsorship for the Mens Walk in Feb. and the Women's Walk in May Be in Prayer of who would be a great Pilgrim that would be blessed!! Have a great Summer and look forward to seeing everyone around BonClarken!! DeColores!! Carl Marvin Walk #40, Mtn. Top Emmaus Get Connected! * Blue Ridge Emmaus Website: blueridgeemmaus.org * Chrysalis Website: mountainridgechrysalis.org * To receive texts about upcoming events: Send a text message to and in the message space. You ll receive a message back asking for your name. *To receive s about upcoming events: a message indicating your interest to bremmaus@mail.remind.com The following board positions are currently open: Volunteer Coordinator tracks, records and maintains records for all volunteer efforts in the community, especially those efforts at the walks. Helps coordinate when and where volunteers are needed and utilized. Newsletter Editor Works with the Board and various contributors to create and distribute a quarterly newsletter to keep the BRE community informed of upcoming events, pilgrim and conference room team lists, service opportunities, and to encourage the community to remember their own walk experience and find ways to be the hands and feet of Christ. Our board usually meets once a month, from 6-8 pm. Service is expected to be a three year term, but job responsibilities may be changed as needs arise and the Board Chairperson sees the need. Board officers (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary) are elected by the board on an annual basis.

8 Page 8 Who s in Control?? One of the many obstacles to God's grace in my life is my struggle with being a control freak. The Holy Spirit revealed this spiritual problem to me during Dying Moments, when I went on my Walk. God revealed to me that being in control can lead to spiritual fatigue and joylessness. The desire to be self-reliant and manage my moments were other ways of saying, I really don't trust you, Lord, with my life and circumstances. Underneath this spirit of control were layers of fear and the false belief that I knew better than God how to run my life. Thanks to the revelation of God on my Walk to Emmaus I was able to get in touch with my desire to control. The Word of God clearly states that I should, Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3: 5,6) During the month of July, when we celebrate our nation's independence, let us also celebrate the power we receive from God in Christ, when we frame our lives around the spirit of dependence. Our Lord said we can do all things, through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4: 13). Let those of us who struggle with being a control freak, learn to trust God and depend on the power of His Spirit for every detail of our lives! BTW: Have you heard that Control Freak Knock, Knock joke that goes like Knock, Knock Who's There? Control Freak. Now you say, control freak who?.why does this joke make me (and some of you) smile? Hmm... DeColores! Buddy Corbin Walk # 11, Table of John
