Recovery Plus An enhanced recovery programme For internal use only
Recovery Plus An enhanced recovery programme A personalised recovery programme Recovery Plus is Nuffield Health s flagship recovery programme available free of charge to our private patients. Recovery Plus embodies Nuffield Health s complete end-to-end approach to healthcare. It is an optional enhanced recovery pathway which starts after a patient has completed their post-operative physiotherapy, and enables them to continue their recovery at one of our Fitness & Wellbeing Centres at no additional cost. It is currently available to our private orthopaedic patients for a number of procedures: Total Hip Replacement Total Knee Replacement Hip Resurfacing Unilateral Knee Replacement Spinal Decompression Everyone s recovery is different, which is why Recovery Plus provides patients with an individually tailored recovery programme. We work with patients to understand what they want to get out of their recovery. Our priority is getting them back to doing the things they love. Recovery Plus is offered to patients after they have been discharged by the hospital physiotherapist, and includes: A 12 week membership at their local Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Centre 4 expert sessions with a recovery coach (a Wellbeing Personal Trainer or Health Mentor) A Health MOT at the start and end of the programme A personalised diet and exercise plan We are proud to offer Recovery Plus to our private patients at no additional cost to the procedure price. For more information on Recovery Plus and a full list of applicable treatments Visit nuffieldhealth.com/recoveryplus 02 03
The Recovery Plus Patient Journey The patient will be seen at pre-assessment and if suitable will be advised of the Recovery Plus option. If agreed, at discharge from post-operative physiotherapy, the patient will be referred to a recovery coach (a Wellbeing Personal Trainer or Health Mentor) at the Fitness & Wellbeing Centre for a comprehensive health assessment, including lifestyle and attitude to exercising, and be given an individually tailored exercise plan and a 12 week membership. The patient will then receive 4 expert sessions with a recovery coach to progress their exercises and discuss any queries they may have. The patient will always have access to their referring physiotherapist and/or onsite physiotherapist should they have any concerns. We know that patients will be recovering from major surgery, and we re here to tailor their recovery programme to their individual needs we understand that emotional recovery and total wellbeing are just as important. At the end of the 12 week membership, the patient will be given their second Health MOT to measure their progress. Following this their recovery coach will offer them the option to join the Fitness & Wellbeing Centre for a 12 month membership, which they must pay for. The patient can then choose whether to proceed with membership or end their Recovery Plus programme
End-to-end healthcare from Nuffield Health Achieving the best recovery possible Recovery Plus What our patients say about us By helping patient s actively take control of their health and fitness, Recovery Plus aims to help them achieve a faster and more complete recovery. A successful recovery can see patient s returning to activities such as walking, driving, swimming, golf and gardening sooner than they could imagine, significantly improving quality of life. Recovery Plus is a true value added part of a patient s recovery pathway, with no additional cost to them. It was positive right from the beginning to end. All done very professionally. A very good thing that when you have an operation you can follow it on, you don t just leave the hospital and that s it Such a good idea, such a good programme. Elizabeth, 71. Recovery Plus patient treated at Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital and Nuffield Health Leicester Fitness & Wellbeing Centre Recovery Plus was instrumental in speeding up my recovery after my major operation. I had quite a complex procedure but was able to use the swimming pool and the gym at the Fitness & Wellbeing Centre and as a result was driving and back at work after 6 weeks. I would definitely recommend Nuffield Health for hip surgery. Having gone through the same thing with my other knee where the physio after was purely once a month at the hospital and which didn t have all the wonderful facilities at the Nuffield Health gym, comparing the two, well there wasn t a comparison, it was much much better and I think it helped my recovery greatly much quicker I was very positive about the whole thing and I would recommend it to anybody. A. No. All eligible patients will be offered the option of Recovery Plus but may choose not to take up the offer. Q: Have the recovery coaches (Wellbeing Personal Trainers and Health Mentors) been specially trained in Recovery Plus? A. All recovery coaches involved in Recovery Plus were personally selected and have qualifications in exercise prescription. In addition, they have also attended training and passed an exam delivered by the Lead Recovery Plus Physiotherapist at a Nuffield Health Hospital. They understand the details on the procedures, risks and the exercise progressions appropriate for each condition. Q: Why will exercise help a patient s recovery? A. Regular low impact exercise can make a big difference to a patient s recovery. Suitable exercises together with activities such as walking, swimming and stationary cycling can all help patients regain strength, movement and flexibility and improve quality of life. Our priority is getting patients back to doing the things they love
FAQs Where you can access Recovery Plus Q: How will patients know about Recovery Plus? A.
