1 Famous Psychologists Intro: Ask students to list famous psychologists that they already know. Discuss any psychologists that has been influential to you as a psychology teacher. Lesson: Have students cut these pages and paste onto notecards. Students then order the notecards by birth year of these famous psychologists. Students highlight the most important bullet for each person. Students then have notecards for studying. Homework: Students write a timeline of events into their notebook using the highlighted bullet that they completed in class. Famous Psychologist Report
2 Mary Whiton Calkins March February 1930 She was admitted to Harvard as a guest, not a student, because she was a woman. Harvard refused to award her a degree despite completing a thesis. Student of William James. Taught as Wellesley College First Woman president of the American Psychology Association. Ivan Pavlov Sept February 1936 Studied digestive system of dogs. Conditioned dogs to salivate to a tone. Did not like psychology but was cited often by Watson. Won Nobel Prize in Physiology in His work became Classical Conditioning. John B. Watson Jan Sept Earned PhD in Psychology in Taught at John Hopkins University in Lecture: Psychology as the Behaviorist views it. He & Rosalie Rayner conditioned infant Little Albert to fear white a rat. Little Albert was probably Douglas Merritte who died at age 6 of hydrocephalus (fluid in the skull). He founded Behaviorism and was president of APA in 1915.

Stanley Hall Feb April : Founded the American Journal of Psychology 1889: First President of Clark University. 1892: First President of the American Psychological Association. 1909: Invited Freud and Jung to lecture at Clark and promised an honorary degree to Freud. Critics argued against this. Established experimental lab at John Hopkins.
