2 Controversies in WOMEN S HEALTH December 6-7, 2007 Marines Memorial Club and Hotel San Francisco, CA Increasing appreciation of the unique needs of women patients and women health care providers has created a need for innovative educational programs on women s health. This program, designed for family physicians, internists, gynecologists, nurses, pharmacists and all others involved in providing quality health care for women, will provide a practical update on a full range of common but controversial issues in women s health. Emphasis will be placed on new developments in preventive care for women, issues in reproductive health, and clinical strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of common gynecologic and medical disorders of women. An audience response system will be used and ample time will be provided for questions and discussion. A complete course syllabus will be provided for all participants. This course is presented by the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine, in close collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and is sponsored by the University of of California, San Francisco. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES An attendee completing this course should be able to describe: Current recommendations for prevention and early detection of cancer in women with clinical exam, pap tests, genetic testing, diagnostic imaging and the HPV vaccine Impact of health disparities on women s health New understanding of how targeted marketing increases smoking in women Current guidelines for prevention and treatment of heart disease in women Effective use of diet, exercise, behavioral therapy, drugs and surgery for obesity Current strategies for effective family planning New approaches to menopause including current indications and current regimens for hormone replacement therapy Management of common office problems in women s health including abnormal pap smears, menopause, infertility, osteoporosis, incontinence, and UTIs Diagnosis and treatment of common skin problems in women Current approaches for diagnostic imaging in women s health Diagnosis and management of common and unique sports injuries in women ACCREDITATION The University of California San Francisco, School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of AMA PRA category 1 credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. AAFP: Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Determination of credit is pending. Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA category 1 credit issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. Pharmacy: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA category 1 credit. Geriatric Medicine: The approved credits shown above include 4.25 credits toward meeting the requirement under California Assembly Bill 1820, Geriatric Medicine.
