She is Associate Professor and the former Coordinator of the Gender Studies Programme, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya. She has also held several visiting research fellowships such as the Asian 27 June 2013 Page 2 of 7
3 Public Intellectual fellowship at Kyoto University and the Fulbright fellowship at the University of California (Berkeley). Her current research interest are in the areas of gender, migration and identity; gender and work; families in flux and gender relations, gender and public policies. At ARI she will be working on Muslim female migrant workers questioning the normative values of men as providers and protectors of women.
