4 SPEAKERS Dr. Shana Saffer Dr. Coenie Hattingh Dr. Shana Saffer is a private sector Specialist Psychiatrist based at Netcare Linksfield Hospital in Johannesburg since Her areas of interest are Mood, Anxiety and Personality Disorders, and Organic Psychiatry. She works in a general hospital where she is able to practice her passion of Consultation- Liason psychiatry, maintaining strong connections with physicians, neurologists, endocrinologists, cardiologists and neuro surgeons. She has a strong training in forensic psychiatry, and consults on medico-legal cases. She is trained in, and fascinated by the study of the Enneagram, and how it relates to personality and the pathology therein. She has four sons to raise, and in her spare time is passionate about the practice of Kundalini Yoga, and how it has potential to balance the neuro endocrine system, enhancing wellness and mental stability. She believes in healthy eating and experiments with vegetarian cooking and herb gardening. Coenie Hattingh is currently lecturer in clinical neuroanatomy, neuropathology and neuroimaging in the division of clinical neuropsychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cape Town. Coenie also lectures on these subjects in the division of Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgery, and in the division of clinical anatomy in the Department of Human Biology at the school of medicine of the University of Cape Town. He also acts as consultant clinical neuroanatomist in the department of diagnostic radiology at The Bay Hospital in Richards Bay. Coenie trained as a clinical neuroanatomist and completed his masters and doctorate in clinical neuroscience specialising in clinical neuroimaging in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cape Town. His research interests are broad and include aspects of medical education, the neuropsychological utilisation of the Rorschach, neuroimaging validation of the therapeutic effects of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and various other clinical neuroimaging protocols and lesion analysis. Dr. Taniel Townsend Dr. Jody Pearl Dr. Taniel Townsend, MBBCH (Wits), MMed Neurology (UP) FCP Neurology (SA), is a Neurologist practicing in private at Netcare Linksfield Hospital in Johannesburg. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Wits University, and her postgraduate specialization at the University of Pretoria. A large part of her practice is dedicated to medicolegal patients with head injuries. Dr. Jody Pearl is a Neurologist in private practice at Sunnighill Hospital in Johannesburg for more than 10 years. Prior to that consultant neurologist in the Department of neurology at Charlotte Maxeke hospital and Donald Gordon Medical Centre. Editor of local neurology journals Aura and Neuron distributed to neurologists and allied specialists. Participated in several clinical trials while in public service and private practice.
