Panel Discussion: : The Future of AIDS Education and Training in the New Frontier In this session, panelists will describe where we have been in the 26-year history of HRSA s AIDS Education and Training Centers program, and share thoughts on new HRSA mandates and future directions. Topics include: the structure and staff roles of the new Frontier AIDS Education and Training Center, distance education methods, an expanded focus on low-volume HIV care providers including community health centers, and workforce development efforts including interprofessional education and practice transformation. 9:15-10:15 AM Marco Polo Plenary Francine Cournos, MD Behavioral Health in Primary Care: Practical Screening Tips for Primary Care and HIV Providers Substance use disorders and other mental illnesses are very common co-morbidities of HIV infection. The good news is that there are many free, simple, effective, evidence-based screening tools to detect these conditions. 10:15-10:30 AM Break 10:30-11:30 AM Marco Polo Concurrent Session A Francine Cournos, MD Treating Anxiety, PTSD, and Depression in People with HIV There are many ways to provide help to people with common mental health problems even if you don t have specialized training. We will discuss key strategies for supporting patients who are waiting for mental health treatment. Beware: some may even get better! 10:30-11:30 AM Hopscotch Concurrent Session B Chad Zawitz, MD, CCHP The Management of HIV in Correctional Settings We will discuss the management of HIV-infected detainees/inmates from intake to discharge, and beyond. The challenges, pitfalls, and potential solutions will be investigated. 10:30-11:30 AM Red Rover Concurrent Session C David Reznik, DDS Down in the Mouth: Oral HIV & HPV There is a higher incidence of HPV types present in the oral cavity of PLWHA. This session will adress the relationship between HPV and non-oncogenic and oncogenic lesions that present in our patients population. 10:30-11:30 AM Duck Duck Concurrent Session D David Spach, MD Elearning technologies, with Emphasis on HIV Curriculum This session will explore practical uses for e-learning activities with resources developed by Dr. Spach, the Northwest AETC, and the University of Washington. Dr. Spach will provide a brief overview of the resources: HIV Web Study, HIV Question Bank, HIV Online Curriculum (in development), and Hepatitis C online. He will also address how the HIV Curriculum will be further developed and how this comprehensive learning platform can be utilized for training and assessment for a broad array of HIV clinical core competencies.

This session will provide tools, resources, and facilitated discussion. 11:45-12:45 PM Hopscotch Concurrent Session F Julie Griffin, MD, MPH Beyond Cultural Competency: Promoting HEALTH Using the Relationally Adaptive Care Model Promoting HEALTH goes beyond cultural competency to promote trust between a patient and his or her health professionals. We will discuss the relationally adaptive care model as a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on developing the relationships between a patient and his or her medical community and ways to encourage its implementation in the community. 11:45-12:45 PM Red Rover Concurrent Session G Thi Thi Nguyen, PharmD Visit Reason: Positive Pregnancy Test. HIV Treatment in the Childbearing Woman This session, geared toward medical providers, will focus on common pitfalls that should be anticipated in the treatment of HIV in the childbearing patient. 3 2:45-3:45 PM Marco Polo Concurrent Session I Steven Johnson, MD STDs in HIV Clinical Care: New Guidelines on Treatment and Prevention This session will use a case-based approach with audience participation to review recent changes in STD treatment and prevention guidelines, and help participants identify strategies to enhance detection and management of STDs in their own HIV clinical practice. 2:45-3:45 PM Hopscotch Concurrent Session J Josh Blum, MD & Lisa Raville, BA The Opioid Epidemic: Naloxone, Drug Treatment, Syringe Access, and Social Justice This session will cover the origins and current state of the opioid epidemic, as well as medical and legislative responses to increased opioid mortality. Methods to incorporate overdose response into clinical practice, movement building with people who inject drugs, and passing effective policies in your community will be addressed. 2:45-3:45 PM Red Rover Concurrent Session K Emily Barr, CPNP, CNM Inter-Country Adoptions of HIV-Positive Children We will review common findings in HIV-positive children adopted from foreign countries, and discuss current recommendations for care. 2:45-3:45 PM Duck Duck Concurrent Session L Donna Sobel, PhD Lighten the Lecture Load with Active Learning Strategies The purpose of this session is to help educators lighten the lecture load by incorporating active learning strategies. You will learn such classroom strategies as Think-Pair-Share and Stump the Professor, to get students more engaged and involved in lectures. 5 10:30 AM-11:30 AM Marco Polo Concurrent Session Q Jacob Langness, PharmD HIV / HCV Coinfection: Recent Advances and New Opportunities This session will discuss evaluation and treatment of chronic HCV infection in people living with HIV. We will review current approved treatment agents, implications for the clinical provider, and explore specific data in the HIV/HCV coinfected population. In this session, an expert panel will describe the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) method for practice transformation and present examples of previous transformation efforts. Participants will consult with the experts on how to apply empirically supported practice transformation methods in their own care settings. Integrating Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment in an HIV Clinic: Lessons Learned This session will provide an overview of SBIRT and discuss the importance of and lessons learned in integrating substance use screening in an HIV care setting. Sexual Learning, Sexual Experience, and Healthy Adolescent Sex Many discussions of adolescent sexual health focus on unhealthy outcomes such as unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, and minimize the ways in which healthy sexuality can develop. This session introduces a framework for addressing sexual health and healthy sex as an approach to minimizing adverse health consequences. Sexual Rights, Sexual Health, and Sexually Transmitted Infections: Transforming Ideals into Public Health Science and Practice Sexual rights are an essential element of sexual health, but remain difficult to address in public health policy and practice. This session addresses a range of issues associated with definitions of sexual rights, and considering ways in which sexual rights affect sexual health care, STI prevention and STI treatment.
