However, very few people are aware of this distinct primary health care system. This course will introduce naturopathic medicine and its principles. It will demystify the myths and misconceptions concerning naturopathic medicine through the use of evidence based research. Furthermore, the course will make use of patient cases to highlight assessment and treatment from a naturopathic medical perspective. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Examine the current health care system Critically analyze published data on medicine and health care Analyze the role of naturopathic medicine in health care Identify how to assess and provide treatment for patients FORMAT: This course consists of a three hour class each week. The course encompasses both lecture and group work format, with emphasis put on discussion and critical thinking to improve the understanding of naturopathic medicine. TEXTBOOK: This course does not have a required textbook. The instructor will provide the required readings on a weekly basis. COURSE EVALUATION: Written Assignment 45% Group Presentation 35% Attendance and participation 20% 1

2 All assignments must be submitted to the Instructor via Avenue by 11:59pm of the due date. All late submissions of assignments will receive a grade of zero. Students may be excused from handing in an assignment late by using the MSAF.
