2 HLT60712 Advanced Dipoma of This nationay recognised course has been designed to give students the required knowedge and skis to practise as ayurveda practitioners. During this course students wi earn the theory and practica aspects of ayurveda incuding constitutions, doshas, detoxification (panchakarmas), ayurvedic herbs, ayurvedic nutrition, ayurvedic massage and therapies, marmas and chakras. In addition to, biomedica sciences, basic counseing, communication, occupationa heath and safety, practice management, professiona practice and deveopment in reation to the practice of ayurveda wi aso be covered. Large seections of short courses are offered with meditation, yoga and vedic astroogy highy recommended to compement this course. Advanced Dipoma of hoders are eigibe to appy for membership with professiona organisations that represent ayurvedic practitioners. Industry associations may require additiona information for eigibiity of membership. Graduates can choose to enro and gain credits towards a Bacheor of Heath Sciences degree in Compementary Medicine offered through Chares Sturt University. Course Structure The Advanced Dipoma of course is designed for competion within two years with fast-tracked futime study mode. Part-time study may take up to four years (oca students ony). It is a requirement to compete a minimum of 400 hours of supervised cinica training. Cinica sessions are conducted and supervised by quaified practitioners at the student cinic on campus. Other designated cinica schoos, across Austraia may be accessed by domestic students ony upon approva. Subjects deivered by AIHM are mapped against nationay recognised units of competency from the Heath Training Package and students may be required to compete more than one AIHM subject to gain a compete unit of competency. 5 AIHM Subject Description for Advanced Dipoma of AIDN 114 Senior First Aid This unit provides a training program that achieves the standard required for the nationay recognised HLTFA311A Appy First Aid Certificate. Areas covered incude cardio-pumonary resuscitation, management of an unconscious casuaty, interna and externa beeding, fractures, bandaging, burns, poisons, bites, stings, eye and ear injuries. AYVN 130 Ayurvedic Principes This unit covers the meaning, origin, history and branches of ayurveda, detaied expanation of five great eements (panchamahabhutas theory) and tridoshas (vata, pitta and kapha); recognition of prakruthi (constitution), vikruthi (imbaance) of an individua. A brief introduction to other topics incuding states of mind (manasa gunas), tissues (dhatus), waste products (maas) together with a genera description of doshic diet with emphasis on how to appy to daiy cooking wi aso be discussed. An introduction to daiy and seasona routine with emphasis on how to appy this knowedge in practica daiy ife is aso addressed. It provides detaied expanations of fifteen sub-types of the tridoshas; an expanation of mind and its properties (manasa gunas), concept of sou (atma), fire (agni) and its types and expanation of ojas, ama in ayurveda wi be provided. Aso discussed is an introduction to panchakarma (detoxification therapies). This incudes the study of the heart, arteries, veins, digestive and excretory organs, Agni and its forty forms, bood as a tissue (rakta dhatu), their increased and decreased manifestations (vikruthi), dosha reations, examination of abdomen, tongue (jihva pariksha), stoos (purisha pariksha), diseases of the bood, heart, abdomina organs, cardiovascuar system, digestive system; pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, examinations, investigations and treatments. AYVN 301 This unit covers ayurvedic perspective of anatomy, physioogy, emotiona reations, imbaances (vikruthi), diseases and their treatments, endocrine (medavaha, majjavaha srotas) and reproductive systems (artavavaha, shukravaha, stanyavaha srotas). This incudes the study of organs reated to the system, their increased and decreased manifestations (vikruthi), dosha reations, examination of organs and systems, diseases reated pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, examinations, investigations and treatments. AYVN 330 Ayurvedic Nutrition This unit covers areas such as the roe of nutrition in heath, factors of diet and dietetics, knowedge of agni (digestion) and diet according to doshas, individua constitutions (prakruthi) and imbaances (vikruthi), basic knowedge of the process of digestion, absorption and metaboism; dietary factors incuding taste (rasa), quaities (guna), potency (virya), post digestive effects (vipaka), unique properties (prabhava), etc. of food and herbs; concept of the six tastes of ayurveda and its actions on body, food and mind; sattvic diet and the energetics of food and cutura restrictions on diet, and nutritiona suppementation wi be discussed. It aso covers specific diets for the doshas, dua types; digestion and dietary advice, diet according to seasons, zona diet, ayurvedic cooking recipes and practica demonstrations, and a brief overview of diseases and diet reations. AYVN 401 This unit covers ayurvedic perspective of anatomy, physioogy, emotiona reations, imbaances (vikruthi), diseases and their treatments of ymphatic, immune (rasavaha, medavaha srotas, majjavaha srotas) and respiratory systems (pranavaha srotas), ymph as a tissue (rasa dhatu), ymphatic and immune systems (Rasavaha srotas). This incudes the study of the organs reated to the system, their increased and decreased manifestations (vikruthi), dosha reations, examination of organs and systems, diseases reated to pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, examinations, investigations and treatments. AYVN 501 This unit covers ayurvedic perspective of anatomy, physioogy, emotiona reations, imbaances (vikruthi), diseases and their treatments of urinary (mutravaha srotas), and nervous systems (majjavaha srotas). This incudes the study of marrow (majja) as an organ, their increased and decreased manifestations (vikruthi), dosha reations, examination of organ and systems, diseases reated; pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, examinations, investigations and treatments. 6 AYVN 630A Ayurvedic Tactie Therapy Part A This unit provides detaied expanations and practica sessions of ayurvedic therapies, division of the body according to ayurveda, ayurvedic massage techniques on individua parts of the body, aiment specific massage techniques in specific areas of the body. Fu body massage (abhyanga) incuding head massage (shiro abhyanga), and foot and hand massage (padabhyanga) wi be covered. A seection of various ayurvedic ois for massages, shiro dhara therapy - A unique therapy of continuous fow of medicated ois on the forehead for insomnia, hypertension, stress, etc. and aso ayurvedic sauna therapy - Fu body sauna and partia body steam techniques, ayurvedic meridian massage - incudes expanation of meridians and their reation with tridoshas, physica, physioogica and emotiona benefits of major meridian points, and techniques of massage of the meridians wi be expored. AYVN 630B Ayurvedic Tactie Therapy Part B This unit covers other varieties of abhyanga (massage therapies), ekanga dhara (oi poured on ocaised areas), pizhichi (oi bath), pinda sweda (herba poutice treatment), epas (pastes and anointments), kati and uro bastis (ower back and chest treatments), udgharshana (powder massages), netra basti (eye bath) and different varieties of sudation (swedana) therapies. It aso incudes marma massages, chakra massages and other ayurvedic hoistic therapies. AYVN 930 Ayurvedic Perspectives of Disease This unit covers the causes of disease, diagnosis of disease - According to different authors (five types, three types, etc), kriyakaa (staging of disease) and examination of the individua and disease - Three fod, eight fod and ten fod examinations. AYVN 1130 Manufacturing This unit covers the manufacture of ayurvedic medicines. Different forms of medicina preparations in ayurveda ike churnas, taiam, asavas, etc. are covered. The principes of formuation, methods of preparation, dosage, benefits, drug toxicity, etc. of major medicines are aso addressed. The students are required to attend the practica sessions and perform and earn the preparation of medicines. AYVN 1230 Panchakarma This unit covers panchakarma therapies, major organ detoxification procedures and detoxification therapies according to seasons. Various other therapies reated to ayurvedic practice are deat with in this unit incuding; coour, sound (Incuding mantras) therapies, introduction to vastu shastra, and knowedge of chakras is covered in detai. This is a continuation of ayurvedic therapies. BHSN 106 Communication Skis This unit is an introduction to understanding human behaviour and the reationship between basic behavioura infuences and i heath, both physioogicay and psychoogicay. Nature, nurture and need factor infuences are studied through a combination of theory and practica appications. Basic counseing knowedge and skis required for a therapist wi be covered. BION 101A Introduction to Biomedica Sciences Part A This is a core unit for a courses offered. It incudes a broad overview of the anatomy and physioogy of the skin and muscuoskeeta systems. Foundations of pathoogica principes wi be discussed. Ceuar and tissue structure and function wi aso be discussed in detai. Micro-organisms and their importance in disease processes wi be eaborated. Basic chemistry and structure and function of macromoecues wi aso be discussed. Students are expected to compete mutipe - choice questions, short answer questions and assignments reated to the various concepts covered in this unit. BION 101B Introduction to Biomedica Sciences Part B BION101A is a prerequisite for this unit. It incudes a broad overview of the anatomy and physioogy of the remaining body systems not covered in BION101A. Foundations of pharmacoogica principes, function of enzymes, metaboism, and the importance of vitamins and antioxidants wi be covered. In addition, an introduction to basic research methodoogy wi be provided. Physica examination techniques wi aso be covered. Students are expected to compete mutipe-choice questions, short answer questions and assignments reated to the various concepts covered in this unit pus a comprehensive assessment of the content covered in BION101A and BION101B wi be conducted. BION 201 Biomedica Sciences Students wi earn about the anatomy, physioogy, pathoogy, microbioogy and pharmacoogy reated to the Integumentary, skeeta and muscuar systems. In addition, research methodoogy, patient history taking, physica examinations, and differentia diagnosis reevant to these systems wi be covered. BHSN 206 Communication Skis This unit takes the fundamentas of human behaviour discussed in unit BHSN106 and upgrades students' knowedge and appication skis to the next eve by adding atera thinking skis, non-verba and verba communication techniques, deaing with difficut behaviours, counseing skis and situationa anaysis procedures. As in unit BHSN106, this unit is taught experientiay with each ecture being a combination of theory and appication exercises. 6

In addition, patient history taking, physica examinations and differentia diagnosis reevant to these systems wi be covered. Students are expected to compete mutipe-choice questions, short answers, assignments and six (6) case studies for this unit. BION 601 Biomedica Sciences Students wi earn about the anatomy, physioogy, pathoogy, microbioogy and pharmacoogy reated to urinary and nervous systems. In addition, patient history taking, physica examinations and differentia diagnosis reevant these systems wi be covered. Students are expected to compete mutipe-choice questions, short answers, assignments and six (6) case studies for this unit. PRDN 101 Professiona Deveopment This unit wi cover issues ike persona deveopment, earning styes, enhancement of performance at the workpace, goa setting, agency guideines in reation to professiona deveopment and working effectivey with co-workers. It wi aso highight the importance of professiona associations and buiding professiona networks to stay current on trends and deveopments in the industry. RESN 120 Project Literature Review This unit wi provide students with the skis and techniques to review current iterature and criticay anayse data presented in peerreviewed journas reevant to their fied of expertise. BION 701 Biomedica Sciences BION101A, BION101B and BION601 are prerequisites for this unit. Students wi earn pathoogy, pharmacoogy, microbioogy and differentia diagnosis reevant to the nervous system. In addition, students wi expore the mind/body connection, and environmenta toxins and their impact on our heath. Impact of trauma (penetrating, bunt), common environmenta emergencies, overdose and poisoning, and surgica insut wi aso be discussed. Students are expected to compete six (6) case studies and two assignments on the environmenta toxins and mind body connection. CLIN 129 Cinica Procedures This unit covers cinica poicies and procedures, instrument handing, and resuts, consutation protoco and workpace heath and safety issues. Infection contro procedures are aso covered. CLINAYV 229, 329, 429, 529, and 829 Cinic CLIN 129 is a prerequisite for a the cinic units. Training at our onsite student cinic deaing with members of the pubic, case studies and cinica appications. An outine for each unit can be found in the cinic og-book. Ski assessment of most of the units wi occur in the cinic. MANN 120 Business Management and Ethics This unit is designed to deveop knowedge of the Act of Pariament and Reguations in reation to the practice of natura medicine, professiona indemnity and iabiity insurance, accounting and taxation requirements, advertising and promotions, business panning and other issues reated to the estabishment of your own practice. Students wi be required to compete their own business pan by the competion of this unit. NATN 107Foundation of Nutrition This unit covers basic concepts of nutrition and its roe in maintaining heath. Major areas covered incude carbohydrates, ipids, protein, energy metaboism, vitamins and mineras and their infuence on heath, and diseases. Concepts of nutritiona biochemistry wi aso be discussed. PHIN 102 History and Phiosophy of Natura Therapies This unit introduces the phiosophies of heaing and their reevance to cinica practice. In addition, the atest theories and direction in science and the interactions between the two paradigms wi be studied. Students wi expore and appy the fundamentas of natura therapies during the course of the study of this unit. 7
