1 CONFERENCE PROGRAM WEDNESDAY 24 OCTOBER 2018 PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS am WORKSHOP SESSION ONE Workshop 1a Workshop 2 Debridement Major Wound Dressings: How do we navigate? Wendy White (TL) Geoff Sussman (TL) Must attend both 1A and 1B. Introduction and theoretical background for debridement. The workshop will cover tissue type identification, types of debridement, how to debride, safe procedures and scope of practice. Participants will then set up their own stations for Workshop B. Classification of dressings, assessment tools. Basic to advanced technology to provide a case study for discussion in groups also including use of a company catalogue Workshop 3 Burns Burns Association in SA This workshop will provide information on treatment of burns in acute and community settings. It will include assessment, treatment and management of nonhealing burns Workshop 4 Achieving engaged patients in wound management Charne Miller (TL) This interactive session will explore the needs of patients engaging in selfcare and their health literacy. Workshop participants will identify strategies they can use to support patients to understand their wound and its care and be an active member of their wound healing team. Workshop 5 Aseptic Technique Lyn Thomas (TL) Review of recommendations for Aseptic Technique for a dressing procedure. Demonstrations on how to wash a limb and cleanse a wound. Demonstrations of standard and surgical technique. Demonstration of how to process and store open but unused product. Debate or discussion on the merits of the document. Workshop 6 The swollen limb Jan Rice (TL) An overview of types of oedema and management (cellulitis, CHF, VLU, lymphedema) Followed by interactive stations including various bandaging techniques and alternates to bandaging, modified compression, Intermittent compression devices and electrical stimulation Advanced level Foundation to Advanced level Foundation level Foundation level Foundation level Foundation level pm WORKSHOP SESSION TWO Workshop 1b Workshop 5 (Repeated) Debridement Aseptic Technique (continued) Wendy White (TL) Must attend both 1A and 1B. Practical workshop. This is the practical session on using various methods of debridement Lyn Thomas (TL) Review of recommendations for Aseptic Technique for a dressing procedure. Workshop 7 Grand Rounds Terry Swanson (TL) - Patient with a Stoma - Patient with a DFU - Patient with a PI - Patient with a malignant wound An interactive session to review or learn how to achieve a diagnosis, investigations ordered and their interpretation, treatment options and team work. Workshop 8 Critical appraisal of wound resources and literature Bill McGuiness (TL) Why do we turn people 2 hourly? What does moderate exudate mean? Why does compression need to be 20 to 50mm Hg? This interactive session will explore various evidenced based wound resources available to answer similar questions. Skills in finding evidence, determining how reliable it is and applying it to common practice will be developed via real life challenges. Workshop 9 Offloading and modification of footwear Nikki Frescos (TL), Pedorthic Association This practical workshop is tailored for podiatrists and advanced practice nurses working with high risk feet. It will present the 2018 Diabetes Foot Australia guidelines on footwear for people with diabetes and the IWGDF guidance on footwear and offloading interventions to prevent and heal foot ulcers in patients with diabetes. Participants will gain knowledge on the practical application and interpretation of foot scanners and biomechanics for the prescription of footwear and modifications in offloading the diabetic foot. Workshop 10 Value in wound care: assessing bang for buck Eugene Salole (TL) This workshop is about evidence-based woundcare, health outcomes and costs, with a practical introduction to assessing the value of innovative products and procedures.
