2 Conference 2013 is now fast approaching and with its theme of All of us together this promises to be a conference with something for anyone affected by diabetes, whether Type 1 or Type 2, whether child or parent, whether pakeha, Pacific Islander or Maori. The programme is now complete, and is included below. We can now confirm plenary sessions on Prevention and Care plans as well as two aspects of leading edge research, Stem Cells and Xeno transplant, and an important session on The little things that make a big difference, providing practical advice to the newly diagnosed. The workshop programme has something for everyone, whether a parent of a young Type 1, a Type 1 (or Type 2) contemplating an overseas trip, or someone who is struggling with adjusting to a new lifestyle brought on by recent diagnosis. We have been fortunate to secure Dr Helen Lunt to deliver a workshop on advances in technology as it impacts on diabetes management. On Saturday evening we will hear Terry Ehau s personal story, Mate Huka, My story and how this relates to the very successful Ngati and Healthy programme. This was established on the East Cape between Ngati Porou Hauora and the Edgar National Centre for Diabetes Research to tackle the problem of diabetes in that area. We are conscious that a major function of the Conference is Education in diabetes management, either for yourself or to be passed on to others through DNZ s branch structure. The programme will run from 1 pm Friday 20 September to lunch on Sunday 22 September with the AGM of Diabetes New Zealand being held at 1:30 Friday afternoon. This provides the opportunity for you to have a say in the way your organisation is being run and the direction it is taking. And of course there will be sessions on establishing and confirming National Standards in the message that Branches are passing out in their catchments; and how Branches can derive maximum benefit from the annual Awareness week.
