The Federation of Agencies Serving the Handicapped publishes The Handicapped Children of Fort Worth and Tarrant County which recommended the creation of Child Study Center. Larry D. Eason was named the first Executive Director of the Child Study Center and began its organization. The Child Study Center s Diagnostic Clinic sees its first patient in June in facilities provided by Fort Worth Children s hospital (now known as Cook Children s Medical Center). The present building becomes occupied on October 1 by six autonomous agencies: o The Diagnostic Clinic (now the Robert W. Decker Developmental Pediatric Department) o The Child Guidance Clinic (now the Psychology Department) o The Retarded Children s Association o The United Cerebral Palsy Association o The Blind Children s Service Center o The Branch of Easter Seal Society o The Dental Clinic Child Study Center s Auxiliary is founded with Mrs. Jane C. Justin as the original President. The Sid W. Richardson Auditorium is added to the building. The four schools operated by the Retarded Children s Association merges into one school operated by Child Study Center. Stephen G. Maddox, M.D. is hired as the Clinical Director of Child Study Center. Child study Center implements a Special Education Program for emotionally disturbed children. Child Study Center receives accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in both its Developmental Disabilities and Emotionally Disturbed Children s divisions. Child Study Center collaborates with Head Start to provide speech and educational consultation as well as diagnostic evaluations to children at risk for developmental disabilities. Child Study Center opens a Genetics Clinic in cooperation with the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Genetic Screening and Counseling Service. Child Study Center initiates the High Risk Infant Program known as the Child Development Program.

2 Child Study Center begins receiving support from the United Way of Johnson County and the United Way of Denton County. Child Study Center establishes its Endowment Fund. All children s services provided by the Easter Seal Society, along with seventeen employees, are transferred to Child Study Center. In cooperation with Chi Omega and Gill Children s Services, Child Study Center expands its dental services to include typically developing indigent children with dental problems. Child Study Center adds the Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) evaluation for infants suspected of having hearing loss. Child Study Center develops parent education program. Child Study Center s school becomes accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Stephen G. Maddox, M.D. retires and Robert Van Dervoort, M.D. is named Clinical Director. Child Study Center s school becomes accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. Child Study Center initiates the CONNECTIONS/collaboration program with the Fort Worth public schools and several other community agencies for creating a model to provide health and social services within at-risk elementary schools. Construction begins on a major expansion and renovation of the original building. Opening celebrations are held for the completion of the building expansion and renovation. The project includes a second floor addition and the remodel of the first floor. The first annual Children s Golf Classic is held to benefit the Children s Care Fund. Child Study Center begins the operation of the Extended School Program (ESP) to provide before- and after-school care for students enrolled in the Child Study Center s school. Child Study Center offers its first community-wide seminar for parents and professionals to address concerns about children with learning disabilities. Larry D. Eason, founding Executive Director of Child Study Center, retires after a 37-year career. Frank R. Brown, III,Ph.D., M.D., assumes the responsibilities of President/CEO and Medical Director.

3 The Babies First program begins as part of the CONNECTIONS/collaboration program which emphasizes the development of a child s brain and the importance of prenatal care and stimulation during the first three years of life. Child Study Center Foundation is formed to provide asset management oversight, as well as to raise and manage charitable funds for the benefit and support of Child Study Center. Frank R. Brown, III, Ph.D., M.D., resigns due to health reasons. Joyce Elizabeth Mauk, M.D., is appointed Child Study Center President/CEO and Medical Director. Libby Dotson is appointed the first president of Child Study Center Foundation. The CONNECTIONS/collaboration expands to nineteen at-risk elementary schools. Child Study Center is approved as a United Way of Hood County supported agency. The Neonatal Intensive Care Graduates Follow-Up Clinic (NIGrads) becomes a part of Child Study Center. The Boys Town USA social skills and classroom management curriculum was implemented in Child Study Center s school. Child Study Center added neuropsychology services to its treatment options. A scholarship program is established for children enrolled at Child Study Center s school. The Department of Applied Behavior Analysis is created to help children with developmental disabilities acquire new skills and reduce problem behavior. A strategic plan is adopted to refocus services offered at Child Study Center on the agency s mission of serving children with developmental disabilities. The CONNECTIONS/collaboration program transitions to another community agency and the Dental Clinic s focus becomes children with developmental disabilities. Party on the Patio is added as a fundraising event for Child Study Center s Patient Care Fund. Anthony Cammilleri, Ph.D. is hired as Director of Child Study Center s school. Child Study Center Foundation begins an $8 million endowment campaign to build the endowment fund in support of the center s future financial health. Paper patient charts are transitioned to electronic medical records. The Pediatric Department is named the Robert W. Decker Developmental Pediatric Department at Child Study Center. The Child Study Center s school is named the Jane Justin School in memory of Mrs. Jane Justin, founder of the Child Study Center Auxiliary. Two Developmental Pediatricians, Floyd Ostrom, D.O. and Nancy Hitzfelder, M.D. are added to the clinical staff. The title of the director of Jane Justin School is changed to Director and Jack B. Morris Chair of Educational Services in honor of The Morris Foundation.

4 Margaret Dempsey, Ph.D. is promoted to Director of Psychology. Autism Services is added to the Applied Behavior Analysis Department through funding from the State of Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Studies. Puzzle Scuttle 5K and Fun Run is added as a fundraising event for the Children s Care Fund, previously titled the Patient Care Fund. Einar T. Ingvarsson, Ph.D., BCBA-D is added to the Autism Services Department staff as the Program Director. Duy Le, M-BCBA is promoted to Director of ABA and ASL. Tracy Harrington, Ph.D. is added to the Psychology Department staff. Matt Robison, LMSW joins Child Study Center as the Autism Service Line Coordinator. Through funding from The Rees-Jones Foundation, the Child Development Clinic is added to the Psychology Department in order to address the extensive waiting times children awaiting diagnosis faced. Nesli Chandler, Ph.D. is added to the Psychology Department staff. Tracie Mann, Ph.D., BCBA is added to the Jane Justin School staff. CSC is presented with the Award of Distinction for Organizations Involved in Community Service and Leadership by the University of North Texas College of Public Affairs and Community Service. Lorena Bright and Dr. Teasha-Lee Frattarelli are added to the Robert W. Decker Developmental Pediatric Department staff. CSC conducts an extensive strategic planning session during which leadership determined that the needs of the community coupled with the highly qualified nature of our staff makes CSC uniquely qualified to primarily serve children with complex, low incidence, high severity developmental and behavioral disabilities. Matt Robison assumes the role of Clinical Director for the Robert W. Decker Developmental Pediatric Department and the Psychology Department. Duy Le is promoted to Director of ABA and Education. Jesse Anderson, BCBA is promoted to Assistant Director of ABA. Dr. Alesha Hill and Dr. Vicki Novoa are added to the Robert W. Decker Developmental Pediatric Department staff. Dr. Tracie Mann is promoted to Director of Jane Justin School and Jack B. Morris Chair of Educational Services Based on extensive study of community need, the Bridge Classroom is added for children past the ages covered by Jane Justin School whose needs are not met by alternate education programs in DFW. Texas Pediatric Society announced Joyce Elizabeth Mauk, M.D. CEO/Medical Director of Child Study Center, as President-Elect for the calendar year followed by an automatic presidency in 2017.
