1 April 2015 The Ditty Bag Sandy Beach Yacht Club 1851 Winter Road / P.O. Box 513 Grand Island, New York From the Rear-Commodore: Spring is here and the ice is quickly melting! With Spring comes our TGIF season which unofficially kicked off March 13 th with the St. Patrick s Day party. Our regular schedule of TGIF s start May 1 st with the Cinco de Mayo party to be hosted by Director Robin Hoch. Please look at the board for open Friday nights and consider hosting and/or planning one. Our TGIF chair is Director Jose Garcia. Starting with our May 1 st TGIF we will establish Fridays a normal day of operation for the bar during the boating season. The bar will be open at 5PM, Fridays for your planning purposes. We will most likely expand to Sunday afternoons for bar coverage when the boats are in (depending on demand). The club will have its spring clean-up on Saturday, April 25 th at 8AM, in preparation for the Opening Day ceremony and breakfast on Sunday, April 26 th. If you are new to the club or did not participate last year, you will be asked by the Fleet Captain Dave Krotz to assist in the serving of the breakfast. I am starting to stock the bar for our spring and summer parties with flavored vodkas and summer beers and wines. Our premium beer selections include Corona, Corona Light, Bud Light Lime, Guinness, Blue Moon, and Sam Adams. If there is something else you would like to see, please see me. The club is a great place to host private parties and functions and is one of our perks as members. (Continued on page 2) From The Women's Organization: After an unbelievably cold & snow-filled Winter, Spring is finally here! We are so looking forward to Opening Day Breakfast on April 26 th, it cannot come soon enough. This is also the start of a great fun-filled season with many wonderful plans and plenty of things to do. The Women s Organization dinner at the Lasalle Yacht Club on February 19 th was excellent and everyone had a great time, it was well worth the trip into the frigid cold to attend. The charity donations for the months of March and April are going to Buffalo City Mission Cornerstone Manor which is a shelter for homeless women and children. Mark your calendars for our first Women s Organization event, the Father s Day TGIF Dinner & meat raffle on Friday, June 12. This has been a very successful & well attended event. We look forward to any new ideas and help. Please contact the Chairs of this event, Claudia O Neil or Debbie Walsh Our next meeting, will be on Thursday, April 9 th at 6:30 pm at the Club. All W/O members are more than welcome to attend. One item on the agenda is picking a fun outside the club event for all members. Looking at the tour of the Junior League of Buffalo Show House, one of the many historic walking tours sponsored by M&T or suggestions for a May outing. 2 (continued from page 1) Our restrictions however, are that the club cannot be used for private functions on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. If interested, see Secretary Frank Spagnolo for a use of club application. We have been having guests and prospective members attend our work nights and club functions. A reminder, all guests have to sign the guest book upon arrival. If you are bringing a guest to the club please see the bartender on duty to ensure they are properly signed in. This is required of all private organizations that serve alcoholic beverages by the New York State Liquor Authority. Your cooperation is essential in helping us maintain our compliance. 3 Dorothy Kristich has been in a Florida hospital since 3/25. She is being treated for a pulmonary embolism which is a large blood clot in her lung. She has improved slightly since going in. We are awaiting further test results. Any prayers would be appreciated.
