3 XXHW) Special Thanks Hug High School Theater Department Sue Klemp (dialect assistance) Wooster High School Theater Department Brüka Theatre Gordon and Diane Douglass Nevada Repertory Company Cast Biographies Megan Conelly (Rosie Pye) This is Megan s third performance with RLT, having previously appeared in The Ride Down Mt. Morgan and Play It Again, Sam. She also co-directed this season s Lives of the Saints. She s a children s librarian, aspiring author, tattoo enthusiast, book nerd, dog owner, and has a lovely husband. (PS: Julie Douglass (Mercy Lott) Julie is delighted to be part of this production, having seen the show a couple of seasons ago at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. She appeared most recently in RLT s Henry V and Henry IV, but has been involved with RLT for many years, in many capacities. She thanks her husband, Kirk Gardner, for his unwavering support. Cathy Gabrielli (Flora Humble) Cathy was last seen as wife and mother in the 2005 Blythe Award-winning production of The Ride Down Mt. Morgan. Her many and varied credits include You Can t Take It With You (the mother), The Glass Menagerie (the mother), Social Security (the mother), The Little Foxes (the mother), Mame! (the mother -in-law), and The Dining Room (3 mothers, an aunt and a maid).
4 Cathy enjoys remodeling her big ole house, singing with the High Desert Harmony chorus, and, of course being a mother. Doug Mishler (George Pye) Doug is doing George, for which he is bloody grateful. Doug says George is the perfect opposite in his approach to life to Virgil, whom I did this fall in Bus Stop. He thanks Kristen for the part. Doug usually directs and loves it, but also enjoys acting though thinks he is too old and too bald for most parts. When not on stage in Reno or teaching history at UNR, Doug travels the country performing ten different Chautauqua characters. Bully! Michael Peters (Jim, the gardener) Now in his eleventh season with RLT, Michael was last seen as the attorney in The Ride Down Mt. Morgan. Among his favorite roles have been Linus in You re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Jake in Jake s Women; King Henry in The Lion in Winter; and, of course, his RLT debut role, Meredith Blake in Go Back for Murder. After seeing Humble Boy at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival two years ago, he and his fellow playgoers urged RLT to produce it and are delighted to see it make its Reno debut. Thanks so much to the new Mrs. Peters for her love and support! John Simpson (Felix Humble) John has always considered himself an actor, even though he only started acting in this decade, after he helped organize a community theater in his hometown of Fallon, NV. A veteran of many shows in those six years, Humble Boy marks John s RLT debut and a return to straight plays, after performing in a string of musicals for various theaters,
5 including Footloose, BatBoy, Urinetown, and most recently How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Director Biography Kristen Davis-Coelho After 20 years performing in the theater, Kristen is proud to present Humble Boy as her directorial debut. Kristen has been involved in the Reno theater scene since moving here almost nine years ago. She considers herself fortunate to have been involved in too many great shows to name them all, but some of her favorites have included Proof at Reno Little Theater, The Laramie Project with Nevada Repertory Company, and SEAMS at Brüka Theatre. She is also the proud recipient of five Blythe Awards with RLT. By day, Kristen is a psychologist at Washoe Medical Center, and in her spare time she is dabbling in playwriting. Humble Boy is one of those special plays that you feel lucky to be involved with while it s still relatively unknown. It was the winner of both the Critics Circle and the People s Choice Awards for Best New Play of 2002, and is currently being produced internationally. As for myself, I knew I wanted to direct it by the time I reached page 10. A play exploring the messy world of family love and loss is not such a rare thing. But a smart, funny play that has deep structural ties to Shakespeare s Hamlet, is able to bring fresh insights to the topic, and ties it all together with theoretical physics, is truly unique. I m very grateful to have been able to work with such a talented cast and crew; they ve made my first directing experience a joy! Thank you for joining us. Kristen Davis-Coelho Director Director s Notes
6 It is with regret that we announce that Don Stanke, Life Member and former Board member of Reno Little Theater, passed away in California last month. Don worked tirelessly on RLT s behalf during the years he was with us, including serving on the Board of Directors for several years in the 1990s. He was the driving force in the creation of the annual Blythe Awards Celebration twelve years ago, and even had two friends who worked at the accounting firm of Price-Waterhouse tally the ballots the first year. Don never stopped working to keep RLT s name out in the public eye, including selling program ads and finding underwriters for shows and special events. He even found time to get out on stage. We are all sorry to have to say goodbye. Diana Carter on behalf of the Board and Members of Reno Little Theater William Macready, whom Hazlitt once dubbed the best tragic actor of his time, once directed a production of Hamlet (in Norwich) in which he himself assumed the title role. His innovative ideas made him rather unpopular with the cast in particular the actor playing Claudius. When, in the debut performance, Claudius having received his mortal blow from Hamlet hobbled to center stage to die, Macready was irate. At rehearsals, Claudius had died upstage, as directed, leaving the center free for Macready s own death scene. Die further up the stage, Macready hissed under his breath. Get up and die elsewhere. At this point, the dead Claudius suddenly sat up. Look here, Mr. Macready, he loudly declared. You ve had your way at rehearsals, but I m king now, and I shall die just where I please.
