As you know, we performed two memorable plays in our 54th Season. Our Fall show was the wonderful comedy OFFICE HOURS, written by Norm Foster and directed by Patrick Sheehy. Our Spring, which wrapped up about a month ago, was THE BOARDINGHOUSE, written by Vern Harden and directed by new member, Mario Razo. As you can see, with these to productions the St. Clair Shores Players have continued their longstanding tradition of producing a variety of plays, from serious to comedy, realistic life to fantasy, with the intention of entertaining the public and giving them a glimpse of another life for a little while. Let s keep that tradition alive and well in our 55th Season! Elections Elections for the Board of Directors are coming up in September. If you would like to run for a position on the Board, please contact President Matthew Sheehy and let him know what position you want to run for (President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer). Currently we have just one candidate on the ballot: Mario Razo who is running for Vice President. All position are open, so don t be shy let us know what you what to do! Thanks! PS: All other Board position are appointed, so if you want one of those, speak to the President. Thanks! Social Media The St. Clair Shores Players have a Facebook and Twitter account. We are gaining more followers wanting updates on play productions. 2 2 PAGE 2 S.C.S. PLAYERS From the Director - Mario Razo Wow! What a show! I am so pleased with all who were involved with this show. We pushed all the boundaries for this show and it paid off. Our audiences were wonderful and our show was great. We made many new friends and really show-cased what the SCS Players are capable of. The set was exceptional, we experimented and expanded our stage area and really put together a simple stylish but functional set. Thank you to Pat Sheehy and Matt Sheehy for all your efforts. We really could not have done it without the two of you. Our concessions and tickets could not have run better, so many thanks to Sharon Kusch, Linda and Allen Neuwirth and the many actors and actresses who donated baked goods to sell. Our press was bar-none as the St. Clair Shores Sentential did a real nice piece on us which really improved our audience numbers. Thank you to Kathy Smith for being our publicity chair. I could not be more pleased to have this as my directorial debut with the SCS Players, and I cannot wait until our next season, where we will continue to better ourselves and our productions. I look forward to directing and doing more shows with the St. Clair Shores Players. I hope you will all be there and enjoy a month off as we have a lot of things in store for the season. Renew Your SCSP Membership Now is the time to show your continued support for the SCS Players and renew your membership for the season. Single memberships are only $20.00 and families are $ Make your checks playable to SCS Players and mail it in care of Matt Sheehy, Membership Committee Chairperson. You can also pay your dues at any General Membership Meeting. Here are a few things to remember about memberships. Single members are for anyone 18 years of age and up. Family Memberships include you, your spouse (husband or wife) and your children. Family memberships DO NOT include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and/or boyfriends/ girlfriends. Rollover membership are only available to NEW members (those who have never belong to the group in the past) who join after the Winter show has ended. Rollover memberships are not available to current or returning SCS Players. To celebrate its arrival, our first social event will be in September. This will be a PIE SOCIAL!!! What s a Pie Social, you ask? Well, that s very easy we all bring (bake or buy, your choice) a pie to share with the other members of the groups. After the September General Membership Meeting 7:30pm) we will share our pie-licious creations and hang out to chat about the summer and discuss the upcoming season. EASY AS PIE! Please be sure to attend the September meeting and bring a pie to share with your theater friends!! We look forward to seeing you there.

3 3 VOLUME 54, ISSUE 6 PAGE 3 A Few Words from the President Hello Everyone! Hope you are having a GREAT summer and are recharging your theater batteries for our Season (as always, I recommend you get out and see some theater this summer!). Speaking of our Season, I am please to announce that the Board of Directors met on Wednesday, July 16 and selected our two shows. For Fall 2014 we will stage THE WAR OF THE WORLDS: A RADIO PLAY this will be directed by Scott Smith and auditions will be in late August (see the calendar on for the exact dates and times). Since this is a short script (59 minutes) we are looking at a second script to help make up a full nights entertainment. We'll announce the second script soon! For our Spring 2015 production we will stage our first musical since the 1990s GODSPELL with Mario Razo in the director s chair. It very exciting and expensive to stage a musical, so to cover these additional costs, the Board also voted on 07/16/2014 to raise the ticket price for our musical performances to $15.00 for adults and $12.00 for Seniors and Students. This prices increase will only affect musicals, our ticket price for straight shows (non-musicals) will remain unchanged. It s a BIG season we have planned so be sure to get involved!! June Social Event Our end of the season picnic was held at Spindler Park on Sunday, June 22. What a perfect day we had with sunshine, and a cooling breeze that kept us comfortable and the mosquitoes and flies away. We had a good turnout of both old and new members. Scott and Kathy brought their daughters Robin and Samantha and shared grilled veggies with the group. Karen, Thad, and Karen s Mother, Rose, brought homemade brownies and donuts to satisfy the sweet tooth. Mario s partner Chase, made Mac & Cheese, which was a tasty change from the usual potato salad. Pat and I brought a homemade Strawberry pie and a bean salad. Matt was the grill masters cooking burgers and hot dogs, which were eaten with all the fixings. Stephanie brought homemade basil lemonade and lavender iced tea. I d never had either of these drinks before and thoroughly enjoyed them, especially the lemonade. If you were unable to attend this year s picnic, you missed a fun afternoon with good food and good conversations shared with friends both old and new. - Carol Sheehy

Box 141 St. Clair Shores, MI United States of America The St. Clair Shores Players A Celebration of Community Theater Since Mission Statement The St. Clair Shores Players is a non-profit community theater group serving the city of St. Clair Shores and the surrounding environs. The SCS Players seek to provide a quality live theater experience to the community and also to provide an outlet for local talent in the production of these plays. Membership to this group is open to anyone interested in furthering the purpose of the group (you do not need to be a citizen of the city of St. Clair Shores). The SCS Players have, since the group formed in 1959, always held open casting calls for its productions. If you've got talent and the desire to be in a play or helping in some other capacity we are interested in having you as a member of our group.
