3 Editor s Desk This month I m packing up tickets! And shipping them to Steve Gilbert for the grab tables or auctions at Lotovention. I m sending a lot of sample void sets for various states along with a lot of the American Treasures series. These were private company promotional item that sold years ago. Although it didn t seem to be very successful, they did print some nice looking tickets. If you d like a set, show up at Lotovention and take some home. I recently picked up a California collector s inventory after he passed away and his family didn t know what to do with his tickets. It s a typical story, and sometimes we end up running a rescue mission before tickets go in the dumpster. I went through a lot of tickets, including the American Treasures series. I made sure I had scanned images of them on Lotology.net, and now have them ready to ship to Lotovention. If you have interesting tickets like this that other collectors would enjoy, I encourage you to send them to Steve Gilbert. Going through the grab tables is always one of the most enjoyable events at Lotovention. Gil Davis Newsletter Editor and VP Letter to the Editor Ronald Walter Cyril Thurner GLCS # 286 Ron has always been a collector of things that are easily stored. He first started collecting stamps in the late 1940 s. He found another interesting collectible when his home state of California started to issue their lottery tickets. He began purchasing CA scratch lottery tickets because he liked the graphics. Ron knew other states had scratched lottery tickets but how was he going to acquire them? Since he had thousands of used postage stamps from his other hobby, he advertised an offer to exchange 10 used stamps for one lottery ticket. Much to his delight and surprise he was swamped with people who wanted to take him up on his offer. It was one of these fellow stamp collectors who introduced Ron to the lottery club. Ron also loved to take road trips in his 1972 Pinto and would visit state lottery offices wherever he went. Even though Ron is now 83 he still collects lottery tickets but only sample voids. Over the years he has collected various items, it was always the people he met through his hobbies that he really enjoyed. Thank you Ron for all your support and many contributions to the Lotoventions. Steve Gilbert Lotologist Monthly - May
