3 LEADER JONATHAN WILLCOCKS Developing from his early experience as a chorister at King s College and as a choral scholar at Trinity College Cambridge, Jonathan Willcocks s career has embraced a broad spectrum of conducting work and he is also prominent as a widely published composer with his works widely performed and appreciated both in UK and in USA. He is currently conductor and musical director of the Portsmouth Choral Union, the Chichester Singers and the professional chamber orchestra Southern Pro Musica in the UK. Freelance conducting engagements take him to many parts of the world where he conducts both his own music and the broader choral and orchestral repertoire. His extensive choral and orchestral conducting experience results in many invitations to take choral workshops and adjudicate competitions and festivals and he has recently served as Chairman of the Jury for the prestigious Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Choral Competition in Toronto and Montreal. In July 2008 he was Artistic Director of the Leipzig International Choral Festival, and will be returning there again in 2009 and he has a developing relationship with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale Summer Festival in New Mexico. Jonathan s compositions encompass large-scale orchestral scores and chamber music, in addition to the many choral works published principally by Oxford University Press, Lorenz (USA) and Prime Music. Prestigious commissions have been received from many festivals and choirs and his major works have been presented in major concerts halls, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Festival and Royal Albert Halls in London and Symphony Hall in Birmingham. There are now many recordings of his music, including three CDs issued by Priory Records devoted entirely to his choral music and two Prime Music CDs of his works for children s choirs. 5 DESTINATION CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS Standing in the midst of downtown, this ultra-contemporary cathedral is one of L.A. s newest architectural treasures and the third-largest cathedral in the world. It was designed by award-winning Spanish architect Jose Rafael Moneo and features a 20,000-square-foot plaza with a meditation garden, more than 6,000 crypts and niches (making it the largest crypt mausoleum in the U.S.), mission-style colonnades, biblically inspired gardens, and numerous artworks created by world-acclaimed artists. The view from the inside is breathtaking: soaring heights, 12,000 panes of translucent alabaster, and larger-than-life tapestries lining the walls create an awe-inspiring sense of magnificence and serenity. Mr. Knapp is Artistic Director and Conductor of the New Jersey Choral Society & Orchestra which he has led to critical acclaim both in the U.S. and abroad; Artistic Director and Conductor of the Connecticut Choral Society & Orchestra; Music Director for the Mark Thallander Foundation; founder and Music Director of Orchestra de Camerata and Artistic Director of Chamber Music at the Salisbury House Iowa. He is Principal Conductor of the American Festival Symphony at Carnegie Hall and Artistic Advisor to Kingsway International for choral and orchestral programming.
