2 By the end of this unit you should: Know the general effects of alcohol, tobacco and harmful drugs on humans Know that some micro-organisms cause illness. Know that good hygiene is important in protecting from illnesses caused by micro-organisms. Science standard 9.1 There are lots of different chemicals that can harm you. Examples are alcohol, drugs and tobacco. But many people still choose to take these chemicals into their bodies. We know that we are infected with micro-organisms when we have the following symptoms.
