Aging, Cognition, and Hearing Evaluation in Elders (ACHIEVE) Randomized Trial Role: Co-Investigator This randomized controlled trial will investigate whether hearing loss remediation with best practices audiologic intervention, including properly fit hearing aids, assistive devices, and person-centered self-management counseling can decrease cognitive impairment and ultimately prevent Alzheimer s Disease in adults aged 70 years and older. *Study has been funded, start date pending as of 3/ /1/ /1/2020 NIH/NIDCD 5 R01 DC PI: Saunders, G. Application of Health Behavior Models to Predict Hearing Healthcare Outcomes Role: Key personnel This investigation will systematically identify the relationships between an adult s hearing healthcare (HHC) behaviors and his/her attitudes and beliefs about HHC and readiness for behavior change, using established health behavior theories, with the ultimate goal of developing interventions to modify the attitudes and beliefs that inhibit a person s engagement in the most appropriate HHC behaviors. Previous Grant Support 9/1/2014 8/31/2016 NIH/NIA1 R34AG A1 PIs: Lin, F., Coresh, J. Planning a Trial of Hearing Rehabilitative Treatment to Reduce Cognitive Decline Role: Key Personnel This is a clinical trial planning grant that will develop a multi-site protocol to investigate best practices hearing loss treatment on rates of cognitive decline in older adults with hearing loss. Major activities include finalizing and pilot testing recruitment and retention strategies, operationalizing and pilot testing the hearing rehabilitative intervention, developing and pilot testing the final outcome battery, writing the manual of procedures, developing the data management system, and preparing the final grant application for the clinical trial. 6/26/2009 6/03/2014 VA RR&D NCT PI: Saunders, G.
