For 2014, we are delighted to offer a comprehensive range of courses led by our expert team of highly qualified trainers. Our ethos is to provide stimulating, interactive learning modules that engage the Hearing Professional and leave them with valuable skills and tools that can be implemented directly into their practices and fitting protocols. Seminars take place either at Starkey UK Headquarters in Stockport or at the Arlington Arts Centre in Newbury. 6 Our Seminars_ Advanced Deep Ear Impression Taking Starkey: 20th Mar / 25th Sept Newbury: 18th Mar / 23rd Sept This course is aimed at any professionals who routinely fit CIC or IIC and is particularly aimed at a full understanding of sound lens fitting, it is also expected to improve technique and understanding generally. During the day we will discuss the anatomy and function of the ear and examine how to improve impression technique and safely take impressions close to the TM. Delegates will be taken through some elements of Starkey Inspire software that are critical to successful fitting. Accredited with 4 BSHAA CUEs. BSA Otoscopy and Impression Taking Starkey: 29th Apr / 25th Nov Newbury: No Course The course will provide detailed guidance on how to safely take an ear impression to BSA guidelines. In a fun and relaxed environment delegates will be taught safe techniques, anatomy of the ear, contraindications and the materials needed to take a successful impression. This course is aimed at beginners who need to take impressions within their job description. An examination is required during the course to obtain the BSA certificate in otoscopy and impression taking. Accredited by BSA. Otoscopy and Impression Taking Refresher Starkey: 3rd Apr / 2nd Oct Newbury: 2nd Apr / 1st Oct This course is aimed at professionals who already work to some degree clinically with otoscopy, earmoulds and impression materials. It aims to review basic anatomy and physiology, what landmarks to look for during otoscopy, practical skills in otoscopy and impression taking to BSA standards. We will also cover new advances in impression materials, technology, product and manufacturing techniques. There is also the option of a laboratory tour to observe modern earmould manufacturing techniques. Accredited with 4.5 BSHAA CUEs. Real Ear Measurements and Speech Mapping Starkey: 8th Apr / 4th Nov Newbury: 10th Apr / 6th Nov This course is aimed at hearing professionals who need to understand the procedures of Real Ear Measurement within their practice. The tuition provides hands on experience with typical equipment available today and will ensure each delegate is confident to use this either in everyday fittings or to comply with guidelines in an AQP service. This course will also provide guidance on the use of Speech Mapping to help validate hearing aid fittings and provide valuable counselling to hearing aid wearers. Accredited with 4.5 BSHAA CUEs

8 Earmould Product Review Starkey: 11th June Newbury: No Course This course is aimed at professionals who work clinically with earmoulds and earmould materials already. It aims to introduce delegates to a wide range of Starkey s portfolio of earmould product and reinforce the in house expertise we have. By using the delegates existing clinical experience but trying to discuss their decisions in an analytical way the delegates engage with others opinions on the use of materials and styles. By having materials, samples and the factory tour we break the day into hands on sessions with small amounts of actual lecture time. Accredited with 4 BSHAA CUEs. Current Procedures in Audiometry Starkey: 24th Apr / 13th Nov Newbury: 23th Apr / 12th Nov This course is aimed at professionals who already work clinically in an audiometry testing environment. It aims to introduce delegates to the latest BSA procedures and reinforce their understanding. Using the delegates existing clinical experience, we encourage discussions on their own approach to masking and hearing assessment. The use of masking rules and correct procedure (including ULL s) is reinforced, with live examples, case studies and practical sessions. Accredited with 4.5 BSHAA CUEs. How to Fit Bone Conduction Hearing Aids Starkey: 19th Mar / 17th Sept Newbury: 17th Mar / 16th Sept This course is aimed at professionals who work clinically with conductive hearing loss where conventional air conduction aiding is not an option. It aims to introduce delegates to Starkey s portfolio of bone conduction hearing systems. We discuss the physiology of conductive hearing loss and the application of bone conduction systems for all ages. Delegates will be shown Starkey fit software and the product range will be available to view. Accredited with 4.5 BSHAA CUEs Tympanometry Starkey: 8th May Newbury: 15th May This course is aimed at professionals who already work clinically with audiometry and hearing assessment in healthcare and/or education. It aims to introduce delegates to a wider range of diagnostic options using tympanometry and acoustic reflexes. This course includes: anatomy and physiology, otoscopy interpretation, tympanometry (theory and interpretation), physics of sound and a tympanometry practical. Accredited with 4.5 BSHAA CUEs. Maximising Your Open House Starkey: 19th June Newbury: No Course This course is aimed at Dispensers and their practice managers and will show in a practical way how an open house could be run to maximise the potential of these events. Facilitated by Education and Training but with significant input from Marketing and Business Development this course is business focussed and practical.
9 2014 Seminar Guide: Seminar Synopses During the staggered arrival times we will welcome you to our open house and then as a group we will discuss what changes we could make and how you might adapt the set up to your businesses. A look at consumer psychology and effective marketing messages is central to the day along with a checklist we will develop together which will form the basis of you planning tool for your next open house. By running this training at Starkey HQ we can give a real feel for the type of resources available to you from Starkey to maximise your events in the future. Receptionist s Course Starkey: 21st May / 10th Sept Newbury: No Course This course is aimed at receptionists in audiological practices who work directly with the public, using hearing aids and their general day to day maintenance. This course includes topics such as basic anatomy and physiology, common disorders of the ear, deaf awareness, hearing loss, and simple repairs to hearing instruments inhouse and also how to diagnose more serious faults that need to be sent back to the manufacturer. Practical sessions and a laboratory tour including modern methods for custom aid / earmould manufacture are also included. Troubleshooting Starkey: 15th Apr Newbury: 9th Apr The majority of hearing Instrument fittings go without incident, but a small percentage pose problems which are not so easy to resolve. This course is intended to address some of the issues which may arise and how to resolve them. From basic earmould technology to fine tuning, we will discuss what is happening and solutions to improve the outcome. _Earmould Product Review _ Current Procedures in Audiometry _How to Fit Bone Conduction Hearing Aids _Tympanometry _Maximising Your Open House _Receptionist s Course _Troubleshooting _9
10 Your Trainers_ Paul Lamb Paul has worked at Starkey Laboratories for over 25 years. Paul, as Technical Director, leads the team to create and deliver accredited training programmes in both audiology and hearing aid technology. Paul gained his BSHAA membership in 1998 by passing the BSHAA examination with merit and received the Cunningham Beattie Award. Paul s specialised areas are hearing aid technology and electroacoustics. Sharon Charnock Sharon is an Audiologist who has worked at Starkey Laboratories for over 10 years. Prior to joining Starkey Sharon held a number of positions in the NHS over a period of 13 years, in both adult and paediatric audiology. Tony Gunnell Tony Gunnell has worked at Starkey Laboratories for 5 years and has been a qualified Audiologist for 30 years, he also qualified as a Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser in Tony was an examiner for the HAC and has continued involvement in education as a member of the BSHAA Education and Professional Practise committee. Sue Falkingham Sue has worked at Starkey Laboratories for 4 years and has been a qualified audiologist for 21 years. After qualifying Sue also continued to study for a degree in Audiology Studies and her Hearing Therapy Diploma. Sue currently sits on both the BAA management board and the professional development committee of BAA.

At the end of Heaton Lane, turn right at the traffic lights onto Wellington Road South (A6). Head south along the A6 for two and a half miles. Turn right at the traffic lights onto New Moor Lane (Opposite Sainsburys). New Moor Lane becomes Bramhall Moor Lane. Go over two bridges, and Pepper Road is first on the right (flanked by signs for Philips). Starkey is the first building on the right. Arlington Arts Centre, Newbury. Continue for approx. 2 miles, turning right into the School campus which is immediately opposite entrance to Snelsmore Common Country Park. Arlington Arts Centre is within the grounds of Mary Hare School. From the M4 Exit at Junction 13, signed Newbury/A34(S). As you leave the roundabout take the slip-road signed Services/Donnington/Hotels. At the 3rd roundabout turn left, signed Donnington. Arlington Arts Centre is within the grounds of Mary Hare School, signed one mile on your right.
