2 PRESENTATION Dear Colleagues, Members and Friends, I am truly excited to present you the 20 th National Congress of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology, the first cultural event of my Presidency biennium. In a society where "every-thing and immediately" seems to have become a daily mantra, sometimes it can be difficult to ethically answer our patients demands. On the other hand, even if the principle "primum non nocere" is one of the fundamentals taught in degree courses in Medicine and Dentistry, its application is still one of the major challenges in our daily practice. These considerations led the Cultural Commission and me, to realize a scientific program focused on the concept of appropriateness. The pre-congress day will open with a well-established formula, based on the educational form of "Spaces" as a corollary to the Pre-Congress Course. Spaces, since their introduction, have been designed to create opportunities for active debate, allowing participants to experience an engaging scientific and clinical update. This day will end with the "Perioparty". The Congress Appropriateness and Prognosis: Periodontology in the Control-room aim is to clarify, from a biological and clinical point of view, the role of periodontology in dental therapy. We will discuss how, without proper diagnosis and therapy of periodontal and peri-implantary tissues, it becomes basically impossible to perform appropriate dental therapies with predictable prognosis. Hence, it is not by chance that I choose to characterize this two years with the slogan "Think Perio". Dentists and Dental Hygienists will share all the works of the first congress day, while the second will call for two separate programs according to the specific needs of these two professional figures. The big innovation of this Congress will be its program build. Thanks to the communication formula onstage with...", much more space will be given to the interaction between Coordinator and Speakers, in order to make discussions more engaging for the Audience. The soul of SIdP are study, scientific research, updating and continuing training in Periodontology and Implantology. Starting from here, we added some news as the "Lunch & Learn" and Workshops to implement the training offer for the attendees, with a particular focus on young professionals. These initiatives have been designed to increase knowledge and clinical expertise, stimulating exchange in an informal environment where participants can be the main actors of their training within the SIdP. Lunch & Learn, organized on Thursday, will give participants the opportunity to sit at tables for people and to have lunch while discussing on monographic topics led by a oderator. Interactive and based on daily practice workshops will be scheduled at the end of the congress work on Saturday afternoon. In conclusion, new opportunities to enter the life of Clinical Periodontology: Think Perio! We are looking forward to meeting you in Rimini, on March 15-17, Mario Aimetti SIdP President Elect

8 Application RESEARCH FORUM 2018 Reserved to Dentists The Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP) will give to clinicians and researchers the chance to present their own data and original research in the field of Periodontology and Implantology during the National Congress 2018 in the session RESEARCH FORUM. Both clinical research and basic sciences research are eligible. Abstract will be evaluated by a specific committee constituted by eminent academicians and clinicians. If accepted, applicants will present their research in English as electronic poster in the session Spazio Ricerca- Research Forum which will be held on Thursday 15th March from 9.30am to 1.00pm. The abstract presented during the session will be then on Quintessenza Internazionale & Jomi. Abstract Format Abstract should be written in English language. Deadline for submission will be February 9 th through the website Only on-line submitted abstract will be accepted. Acceptance will be communicated through from the SIdP secretary within the 28 th of February The presentation will not be accepted if the presenting Author would not be pre-registered within the 6 th of March Each author may present only one poster but co-authorship is not limited. GIORGIO VOGEL AWARD 2018 for the best clinical case Reserved to Dentists The Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP) decided to conceive an annual award to honor the memory of the unforgettable Professor Giorgio Vogel, founder and Past President of SIdP, who devoted great attention and enthusiasm to teaching and clinical training activities of young students and colleagues. The Giorgio Vogel Award aims to further involve all members of the Society and in particular those young clinicians who wish to interact in a simple and direct way with other Colleagues and Experts in Periodontology in a dedicated space within the annual SIdP Congress (2018: Rimini, March 15 to 17). The clinical case should consider periodontal surgery, implant surgery and/or tissue regeneration and should be presented in accordance with SIdP guidelines. The abstract should be written - in English - using only the appropriate electronic template available online on the website (section Scholarships and awards) and must contain a description of the clinical case with the diagnosis, treatment goals and description of the procedure and the results obtained. The iconographic material illustrating the clinical procedure should be organized in English in an electronic presentation (PPT or Keynote) by following the suggestions below. The electronic file should be sent to the SIdP Secretary by using automatic file sharing and transfer systems as DROPBOX: - WE TRANSFER: the material has to be sent to the following address: segreteria@sidp.it. Alternatively, the material could be sent to the address of the SIdP Secretary office (Via del Gelsomino 20 I Firenze) that will forward it anonymously to the SIdP Scientific Committee for acceptance evaluation. The notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent by within February 28 th, A committee of experts composed by a member of the SIdP Board, by an Academic Professor of Periodontology and by a Private Practitioner Active member of the Society will evaluate the best case presentation, award the prize consisting in a free annual membership fee and publish the case on the SIdP website.
