This presentation will cover multiple options to help patients with the correct home care so you can contribute to their health and well being. You will leave this session having been enthused regarding your contribution options and have your purpose renewed. Jiljane is a dental hygienist who graduated in South Africa in She has been involved in peer type meetings for over 20 years. She is a volunteer in her community as well as having served on various committees within the dental hygiene profession both in South Africa and New Zealand. She is experienced in many different aspects of dentistry including orthodontic, general, periodontic, paediatric, prosthodontic private practice. She has been in multi as well as solo practitioner practice. What she brings to this presentation is someone who, after many years, is still passionate about her career choice and empowering others to get amongst it. Dr Mike Rutherford Supporting the team, keeping us all out of trouble Airlines learnt long ago that air safety is dependent on teamwork and everyone following procedure. Healthcare has been slowly getting the message but we have a way to go yet. So - how can our teamwork improve our patient s safety and confidence in their treatment? Mike graduated from the University of QLD and has more than thirty years dental experience in private practice, hospital clinics, the defence forces and supervising undergraduate dental students. He spent 19 years as a member of the ADAQ Patient Liaison Panel and now works for Dental Protection as a Dento-Legal Adviser based in the Brisbane office. 4 Dr Barbara Shearer Choosing oral care products to help your patients achieve whole mouth health This presentation will explore the concept of whole mouth health along with the evolving role of the Dental Professional in making personalised home care recommendations. Risk assessment approaches will be reviewed with examples of products to be recommended for patients with different levels of risk. The science and clinical support for a new innovative oral care product will be presented. Barbara Shearer is the Director of Scientific Affairs for Colgate based in the New York office. In this role she is responsible for academic programmes, professional associations, professional education and public health in North America. Originally from Dunedin, New Zealand Barbara graduated from the University of Otago with a BDS (Distinction) in 1986, a PhD in Oral Pathology in (1993) and MDS (Distinction) in Prosthodontics (1995). Her first position was as a Dental House Surgeon for the Auckland Area Health Board followed by time on the Faculty of the University of Otago School of Dentistry and briefly in private practice. Barbara s introduction to industry was with Unilever Research in Port Sunlight, England. During her 6 1/2 years with Unilever ( ) Barbara had roles including designing and managing clinical trials, global outreach programmes and professional relations. Barbara joined Colgate in New Zealand in 2004, and moved to Sydney, Australia in 2006 then to New York in Rick Eisenhart Medical emergency update An overview of the requirements for CORE Immediate certification with a hands-on quiz and CPR demonstration. Discussion will include adult collapse management plan, AED defibrillation and management of airway obstruction and breathing. Rick joined the TriEx team in September 2017 with a wealth of knowledge. Prior to coming onboard he spent 16 years with New Zealand Red Cross. His experience has included teaching First Aid courses from basic first aid, Pre Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) to advanced resuscitation. He also was involved with training and certifying instructors as well as development of their courses. During this time Rick also spent 10 years internationally delivering the Train the Trainer and First Aid in Situations of Violence courses among various other duties. Rick is New Zealand Resuscitation Council core intermediate certified and he has been a qualified New Zealand resuscitation council first aid instructor since Rick brings with him over 35 years experience responding to emergencies as a firefighter, both here in New Zealand and overseas. Rick loves to bring humour into his classroom as he feels we learn so much better while having fun. Sharyn Pickard has been Practice Manager at Symes de Silva and Associates and Courtenay Specialists, in Wellington, for over 13 years and NZDA Wellington Branch administrator for the last 7 years. In these roles she overseas one of New Zealand s largest dental practices and the representative organisation for more than 185 dentists in the Greater Wellington Region. Sharyn is responsible for more than 30 staff, and their well-being, which includes: Dentists, Hygienists, a Specialist Paediatric Dentist, a Clinical Services Manager, Receptionists, Chairside Assistants and Sterilising Nurses. Her key responsibilities include; the organisation and management of staff and their rosters, dealing with complaints from patients, claiming fees from ACC, WINZ and the Community Oral Health Service and running the accounts and ordering materials to keep this busy dental practice running day to day and the dentists of Wellington happy. He currently works as the Public Health Advocate for the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board. He is also a clinical dentist at the Nelson Hospital and the Spokesperson for the NZ Dental Association. Dr Sam Sharmadi Noise-induced hearing loss in dentistry: Facts, concerns, and a novel solution Noise-induced hearing loss is a significant occupational work hazard in multiple fields, and dentistry is high on that list. With chronic daily exposure to a high frequency and decibel environment, each day dental professionals are moving towards long-term permanent hearing issues, unnoticed. This presentation will examine the factors and statistics behind noise-induced hearing loss. Literature and research from the past four decades will highlight the severity of the issue in the dental environment. Finally, possible preventive solutions will be discussed as the next step in the evolution of protective equipment in the dental environment. Dentists must register as dentists, NZDA members are not eligible to register for the Dental therapist/hygienists day or Team day for dental surgery assistants and practice managers. 4. Overseas dentists who are members of their national dental association are eligible to pay the NZDA member registration fee and may be asked to provide proof of membership 5. If a dentist spouse or partner is also a dentist, both must register separately as dentists unless the partner is only attending the social functions. Cancellation policy All cancellations must be in writing to Conference Innovators. You may reassign your registration to another person at no charge. If you cancel your registration the following refund policy applies: before Thursday 20 June a $100 cancellation fee; after Friday 21 June there is no refund except at the discretion of NZDA. If you cancel one or more social tickets (retaining your registration) the following refund policy applies: Before Thursday 20 June receive a full refund of your ticket; After Friday 21 June there is no refund except at the discretion of NZDA. Refunds will be processed no later than one month after written notification has been received.
