5 Thursday, March 16 th (4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm PDT) Dr. Stefan Koubi (FRANCE) Smile Design & Worn Dentition: Recipes for Repeatable and Predictable Everyday Dentistry Treating tooth wear has increased over the last two decades. Nevertheless, the treatments involved have not been satisfactory to most patients, nor have they achieved the expected goal in some worn teeth scenarios. New approaches have emerged to reconstruct full arches in a minimally invasive way. These new concepts constitute a revolution in dentistry and their application requires adapted technique and training to achieve optimal results. The purpose of this session is to suggest a precise and reproducible method that simplifies the treatment of worn dentition. A wax up and a mock-up is mostly used for designing aesthetic outcomes, and then used as a guide (preparation through the mock up or the wax upapt for the preparation of anterior teeth). The technique can also be used on the posterior occlusal surfaces of the teeth. This will not only provide the exact new vertical dimension of the occlusion but also let the dentist use it as a guide for precisely controlling occlusal preparation simultaneously with buccal preparation The classical cavity design for a partial bonded restoration on posterior worn dentition will also be reviewed. During the preparation of the occlusal surfaces of the posterior teeth, the marginal ridges must be preserved to reduce the biological cost and the mechanical stress leading to fracture. A new type of thin and reduced restoration called table top will be presented. 1. Lean the management of worn dentition. 2. Learn Minimal invasive techniques. 3. Learn about tabletop technique. 5 Dr Stefen Koubi graduated from the Marseille University School of Dentistry, France, in From 1998 to 2001, he worked as a clinical assistant at the Hôpital Louis Mourier (Hôpitaux de Paris) in the Department of Stomatology headed by Prof. Poidatz. In addition, he was research assistant at the University of Paris V, School of Dentistry in Montouge. 7 Thursday, June 22 nd (4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm PDT) Gadzhy Dazhaev (RUSSIA) The Prosthodontic Treatment Plan for Long-term Success of Dental Rehabilitation. When it comes to treatment planning, sometimes the dentist has no idea where to start or how to build the plan. In reality, the most difficult clinical cases are those in which the teeth are out of position, or bone is out of position, or gingival contours are poorly situated, or there is a problem with the occlusion. The thorough analysis of four main areas Aesthetics, Function, Structure and Biology, following a systematic approach starting from the history-taking, to the patient examination, model analysis in the articulator, and using a risk evaluation system allows us to make a proper diagnosis and to create a plan. Despite the fact that the determining factor in treatment planning is aesthetics, the need for proper examination of the TMJ, muscles, periodontium and the teeth is necessary to achieve the long-term success of a dental rehabilitation. Dr Gadzhy Dazhaev graduated in Dentistry in 1993 and completed his specialization in prosthodontics at the Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Moscow, in He runs a private practice limited solely to prosthetics on natural dentition and on implants in Moscow. Dr Dazhaev has been involved in dental education since He lectures and gives courses both in Russia and internationally. He is president of the Eurasian Association of Esthetic Dentistry. 1. Clinical examination and assessment of the masticatory muscles. 2. Clinical examination and assessment of the TMJ and teeth. 3. Carrying out the load test and the stabilization test. 4. Identification and registration of the CR using the method of Dr. Peter Dawson. 5. Use of a leaf gauge and Lucia Jig. 6. Facebow transfer. 7
8 Thursday, September 7 th (4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm PDT) Dr. Andrea Ricci (ITALY) Digital Smile Design: A Tool for the Team to Treatment-Plan Multidisciplinary Cases and to Communicate with the Patient. Digital Smile Design is a multi-purpose tool that can help the dentist during different phases of treatment. From the first visit until the final cementation the DSD protocol can be utilized by the dental team and the patient to understand the aesthetic issues, the elaboration of the proper treatment planning and also improving the effectiveness of the clinical sequence, facilitating the communication between clinicians and the technician. Lines and shapes drawn on extraoral pictures which give appropriate references can be transferred to intraoral photos and this helps the team to widen the vision of the case, understanding the limitations, highlighting the esthetic issues and pre-visualizing the outcome. It also allows continuous re-evaluations of the treatments outcomes, providing valueless growth of the team s skills. DSD changes the method that the clinician utilizes to communicate with the patient. Most of the time we are not very good at explaining procedures, sequences and rationales of the treatment plans. Videos, photos and presentations help improve this communication. This is the reason why it can also be considered a philosophy, since the patient s education is improved, allowing the patient to select the ideal treatment that is ethically customized to the patients need and lead to superior results. Last, but not least, will also increase case acceptance that is a critical aspect for the success of any dental office. Dr. Andrea Ricci graduated from University of Perugia in After a three years training program he achieved the Certificate in Advanced Prosthodontics at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Since 1999 he limits his practice to prosthodontics, periodontology and implant dentistry with special emphasis to the aesthetic areas. He is the Scientific Director of IDEAT (Institute of Dental Education and Therapy). He is an Active Member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), Associate Member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry (AARD), Active Member of the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (IAED) and Active Member of the Italian College of Prosthodontics (ICP). Co-author of several papers published in international journals, he has lectured extensively in Europe, United States, China, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and in Japan. 1. Learn the how to use DSD for treatment-planning complex cases. 2. Learn how to communicate with your lab. 3. Learn how to use the tool for case acceptance. 8
9 Thursday, October 26 th (4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm PDT) Christine Taxin (USA) Dental-Medical Cross-Coding. Due to the paradigm shift in dentistry where it is growing as the field of dental medicine, dental practices are now in a position to help their patients obtain additional benefits from their medical insurance plans for medically necessary dental procedures. This will increase case acceptance and, therefore, profits. However, most dental practices have no idea of how to do this. By understanding the multiple medical code sets and knowing how to complete the medical claim form, dental practices will be more successful with this process. You will also learn that your practice probably already has the tools necessary to implement cross-coding and, if not, you ll be provided with resources to obtain those tools. 1. Know why it is so beneficial for dental practices to implement dental-medical cross-coding. 2. Identify what types of dental procedures can be submitted to medical insurance. 3. Understand the importance of learning how to accurately use the medical code sets. 4. See how a medical claim form should be completed. 5. Discover the tools available in your dental practice to complete cross-coded claims. Christine Taxin is the founder and president of Links2- Success, a practice management consulting company to the dental and medical fields. Before starting her own consulting company, Ms. Taxin served as an Administrator of a critical care department at Mt Sinai Hospital in New York City and managed an extensive multi-specialty dental practice in New York. With more than 25 years experience as a practice management professional, she now provides private practice consulting services, delivers continuing education seminars for dental and medical professionals and serves as an Adjunct Professor at the New York University (NYU) Dental School and Resident Programs for Maimonides Medical Centre. Ms. Taxin received certified training from the Las Vegas Institute (LVI) and the Coach Training Alliance. She is a proud member of the following industry organizations: Speaking Consulting Network, American Association of Dental Office Managers, the Academy of Dental Management Consultants, National Dental EDI Council and the International Association of Comprehensive Aesthetics. She also has the privilege of being a board member for Store-A-Tooth: Stem Cells For Life. 9
10 Thursday, December 7 th (4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm PST) Jamison Spencer (USA) Make NEXT YEAR your BEST YEAR? Alright. This year is pretty much in the bag. How was it? Awesome?! Good? OK? Not so hot? Regardless of your answer, do you know why this year was the way it was? Would you like next year to be better? Of course you do, and so does your team. In this presentation, Dr. Jamison and Jennifer Spencer will take you and your team through the principles and processes necessary to achieve what you want to achieve. How to get excellent results, instead of just good. Why your WHY is more important than your HOW. How to recognize the power of emotions and get you and your team on the right track to create unstoppable momentum in the coming year. 1. Understand the success cycle and how to apply this to your goals. 2. Be able to recognize where your emotions come from and how to increase the emotions that you want to experience. 3. The importance of tracking and measuring your results, and how to use a "12 week year" to supercharge your ability to accomplish your goals. You may know Jamison as the "Sleep Apnea and TMD Guy." Jamison Spencer, DMD, MS is the Director of the Center for Sleep Apnea and TMJ in Boise, Idaho, and the Director of Dental Sleep Medicine for the 28 practices of Lane and Associates Family Dentistry in North Carolina. He is Adjunct Faculty at Tufts University, University of the Pacific, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Spencer teaches mini-residencies in Dental Sleep Medicine at Tufts and UOP, and lectures around the world on Dental Sleep Medicine and TMD. He is the inventor of an FDA-approved oral appliance, and recently launched the Spencer Study Club as an online education and mentoring tool to help dentists take Dental Sleep Medicine and TMD to new levels in their practices. In this lecture, however, Dr. Spencer draws on his years and years of being a student of "self help" and success literature and experiences. Following the principles that Dr. Spencer will discuss in this presentation have allowed him to create a pretty incredible lifestyle for him and his family. Jennifer Spencer has been the rock and foundation for Jamison for the past 25 years. They have 6 children together (5 sons and 1 daughter) and currently live in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jennifer has been CEO and CFO of this huge family, along with playing significant roles in the practices and businesses. Jennifer and Jamison have been through Mastery University with Tony Robbins, and Jennifer is a Senior Leader at Tony Robbins events. Jennifer is also very active in her church and community, with lots of opportunities to help women in particular to see the joy in their lives. 10
