1 177 Report on the XXXIth Conference of the International 177 REPORT ON THE XXXITH CONFERENCE ISFR CONFERENCE OCTOBER 18 21, 2013, TEHRAN, IRAN The XXXIth Conference of the International (ISFR) was held on October 18 21, 2013, at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Tehran,. It was organized by the Institute for Environmental Research (IER), Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the ISFR in cooperation with the ian Association of Environmental Health (IAEH), the Busheher University of Medical Sciences, and the Environmental Health Research Network (EHRN). The Conference Organizing Committee was chaired by Professor Alireza Mesdaghinia, Department of Environmental Health Engineering, School of Public Health and the IER, TUMS, Tehran, and Dr Amir Hossein Mahvi, from the same department, was the Scientific Secretary. The Executive Secretaries were Dr Abbas Shahsavani, Center for Air Pollution Research, IER, TUMS, Tehran, and Department of Environmental Health Engineering, Shiraz University of Medical Science, Shiraz, and Fatemeh Momeniha, MSc, Center for Solid Waste Research, IER, TUMS, Tehran. The keynote speakers were Professor Jörg Spitz, Germany; Associate Professor Masashi Tsunoda, Japan; Dr Bruce, New Zealand; Professor Anna Strunecka, Czech Republic; Professor Elian Dahi, Tanzania; Declan Waugh, BSc, CEnv, MCIWEM, MIEMA, MCIWM, Ireland; Dr Ümit Demirel, Turkey; and Professor Zhi-Zhong Guan,. Other keynote speakers who planned to attend but, in the event, were unable to were Professor Dariusz Chlubek, Poland; Dr Arjun Khandare, India; Dr Jennifer Luke, England; Professor Guifan Sun, PR China; and Professor Andezhath Kumaran Susheela, India. Professor Jundong Wang,, was also unable to attend but his paper was presented on his behalf by Dr Ruiyan Niu. The advisers to the conference were Professor Emeritus Albert Burgstahler, USA, and Dr, who also assisted with copy editing the abstracts. The executive committee were Dr Amir Ahmad Akhaven; Mohammad Sadegh Hassanvand, MSc; Reza Zomorodian; Rezaei, MSc; and Ali Jaafari, MSc. The conference, held on the ninth floor of the TUMS building, Tehran, with the delegates seated around a large horse-shoe shaped table surrounded by five screens for Power Point images, was opened by Dr Ali Jafarian, Chancellor of TUMS. His speech was followed by presentations by Professor Alireza Mesdaghinia and Dr Amir Hossein Mahvi. A period of silence was observed in remembrance of Professor Emeritus Albert Burgstahler, President of the ISFR, , and Editor-in-Chief of Fluoride who died on October 12, A photograph of him was present on the conference table. Eight platform and five poster sessions were held between Friday evening, October 18, 2013, and Monday afternoon, October 21, 2013 (Table 1). The 196-page conference book contained 52 abstracts together with the full texts of 12 keynote presentations (Table 2). The one hour allowed for the keynote addresses allowed ample time for discussion.

3 179 Report on the XXXIth Conference of the International 179 After listening to a musical group sing and play traditional ian music, a city tour and banquet was held on the evening of Saturday 19, 2013 and included a visit to the 435 m high Milad Tower, the sixth tallest tower in the world, and a meal in a traditional ian restaurant. A meeting was held of the ISFR Advisory Board (President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary or Co-Secretaries if the position is shared, Editor-in-Chief of Fluoride, Regional Editors of Fluoride, Members-at-Large for Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and other areas as may be chosen by the Advisory Board, Treasurer, and Managing Editor of Fluoride) and the ISFR Editorial Board (Editor-in-Chief of Fluoride, Regional Editors of Fluoride, Associate Editors, Editorial Board Members, Editorial Assistants, and Managing Editor of Fluoride. The passing of the Editor-in-Chief Professor Emeritus Albert Burgstahler on October 12, 2013 was acknowledged with sadness. Dr Bruce was invited to take up the position of Editor-in-Chief and the current Regional Editors were confirmed in their positions (Table 3). Table 3. The XXXIInd conference will be hosted by Dr Sunsanee Rajchagool in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on November 25 28, 2014, and the XXXIIIrd conference will be hosted by Dr Arjun Khandare in Hyderabad, India in The Niloufer Chinoy Awards contest for the best oral and poster presentation by a young scientist, aged under 35 years, was held for the third time. The contest is planned to be held on five occasions and will again be contested at Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2014, and in Hyderabad, India, in One thousand euros, kindly donated by Professor Jörg Spitz, in honour of Professor Emerita Niloufer Chinoy, was divided among the winners in each of the two sections (Table 4). 5 181 Report on the XXXIth Conference of the International 181 In his closing address, Dr Amir Hossein Mahvi announced that, as a result of the conference being held, the Ministry of Health in had decided to establish a committee to consider various matters related to fluoride such as the medical, health, engineering, and water treatment aspects. The XXXIst conference of the ISFR in Tehran,, was, as predicted by Professor Emeritus Albert Burgstahler one of the best and all the members of the Society are grateful to Professor Alireza Mesdaghina and Dr Amir Hossein Mahvi and their teams for hosting such a well organized and educational event.
