He is a part-time clinical lecturer in Orthodontics at HKU. Myths and Facts of Invisible Orthodontic Appliances When beautiful face and smile play a significant role in our world today, the number of orthodontic patients in orthodontic practices is ever increasing. Most patients, including adolescents, want to improve the alignment of their teeth and smiles without showing the metal braces, and prefer treatment with invisible or nearly invisible appliances. Despite the wide availability of clear ceramic brackets in the market, patients continue to prefer invisible braces when they have their teeth straightened. Advertising and marketing by orthodontic product companies have driven the patient demands to higher level nowadays. Orthodontists always choose to use the system that can meet patient's demand and deliver clinically excellent treatment results. Dr Lee will critically review the indications and limitations of removable clear aligners and lingual fixed appliances, based on available literatures and clinical expertise. Dr Teresa Ng is a specialist in orthodontics in private practice. She obtained her BDS in 1999 and Master of Orthodontics in 2005 from the University of Hong Kong. Examples of it in clinical orthodontic treatment will be showcased and discussed in this presentation. 7

Roles of Orthodontics in Multi-Disciplinary Dental Treatment Most dentists would agree that if orthodontic treatment is properly utilized, it can be the most rewarding treatment to their patients. This short presentation will highlight some of the benefits of orthodontic treatment that you can bring to your patients, from achieving an aesthetic restoration to simplifying a complex oral rehabilitation situation. From helping to change a seldom smile patient to one always smile with confidence. That certainly would be the line of thought contemporary dental practitioners could take in their practices. She finished her higher training in the Department of Health HKSAR in 2008 and has been a registered Specialist in Orthodontics since then. Uprighting of Impacted Mandibular Third Molars with Conventional Orthodontics Third molar are having the highest impaction rate and are always considered redundant. This presentation would show the possibility of uprighting impacted mandibular third molar to replace the poor prognostic mandibular first or second molars with conventional orthodontic mechanics as to eliminate the needs for prosthetic replacement and to restore the oral function. Dr Yang Yanqi is the Undergraduate Programme Director and Interim Postgraduate Programme Director in Orthodontics in Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong Kong, and a trainer of Specialty Board in Orthodontics of the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong. She is the reviewer of internationally refereed journals such as International Journal of Dentistry, Journal of Investigative and Clinical Dentistry, The Angle Orthodontist, Scientific Research and Essays, European Journal of Orthodontics, Oral Health and Preventive Dentistry, etc. Impacted Maxillary Canines Permanent maxillary canines are the second most frequently impacted teeth after the third molar. Besides its own problems of eruption, an impacted canine can also affect the neighboring teeth such as root resorption of lateral incisors. Early detection of any abnormalities in tooth development and eruption is essential to give the opportunity for interceptive action to be taken. It is important to do the diagnosis and prognosis evaluation for the unerupted canine, the adjacent teeth, the retained deciduous teeth and also the associated malocclusion.
