6 Intrductin What is the aim f this Guide and wh is it fr? A number f rganisatins reviewed the business prcesses fr reprting issues assciated with gas service terminatin assets, recgnising that there will be increased activity at service psitins during the smart meter rll-ut. They identified a series f defects that yu, as a Meter Operative, might cme acrss, and gave each ne a unique cde ( asset cnditin cde ) fr reprting purpses. Yu may well cme acrss these issues (i.e. defects) when installing smart meters, r undertaking ther wrk at gas service psitins. This Guide is intended t supprt yu t make a crrect diagnsis and give directin n the actins yu shuld take. Meter Operatives are the primary audience fr this Guide, hwever, it is als intended t assist Meter Operative managers and trainers. Frmat and Structure f the Guide The Guide cntains: A list f the asset cnditin cdes. A guidance sheet fr each f the asset cnditin cdes, cntaining: The cde and descriptin; Guidance details, which clearly state the actins yu must take and the dcuments yu shuld refer t. An appendix f ther nn GDN r igt issues that may be identified during meterwrk. The cdes are categrised as fllws: A. Emergency Cdes Fllwing cntact with the Natinal Gas Emergency Service, yu must risk assess the situatin and decide if yu can cntinue with the Smart Meter installatin B. Remedial Wrk Cdes yu must stp wrk, risk assess the installatin and take apprpriate actin t reslve. The guidance sheet give references t apprpriate industry dcuments, and advises yu n whether GDN actin is required. Principles f reprting General principles f reprting the cdes presented in this Guide include: Only reprt ne cde per MPRN. Where there are multiple defects at ne MPRN, reprt nly the mst serius ne. Ensure that safety and ther issues are prperly reslved. Yu must seek t reslve all prblems within yur remit. The GDN r igt will reslve all issues relating t Gas Transprter equipment nly at site during their attendance, r manage the reslutin f remaining issues thrugh subsequent visits. Nte that the cdes nly apply t Gas Transprter (GDN r igt) equipment. If an issue relates t supplier r custmer equipment, yu must fllw yur wn rganisatin s prcedures fr managing such ccurrences (such as issues identified in the appendix). Defects must be reprted t the GDN r igt as they arise; they shall nt be stred up and reprted in batches. When reprting a categry A defect by phne, yu will always be asked t prvide the fllwing infrmatin: Yur full name; Yur cntact telephne number; The categry f defect being reprted; Lcatin f defect, i.e. address including pstcde; 7

8 Meter Pint Reference Number (MPRN); Wh yu are wrking fr; and The registered supplier. Develpments There are cntinuus develpments in industry, with areas f regulatin and guidance evlving. Yu will see in this dcument that reprts are nt expected under sme cdes. In ther instances, it will becme apparent that mre cdes are required, in rder t capture netwrk issues that are nt adequately cvered by this set f cdes. If anyne has received medical attentin r appears t be unwell with symptms that might be caused by expsure t Carbn Mnxide (CO): Advise that immediate medical attentin is sught and make the gas installatin safe, ventilate the prperty and infrm the Gas Emergency Service. D nt enter cellars Cntact the GDN via the Gas Emergency Service reprt cde A02. When requested by an Ofgem Apprved Meter Installer, the GDN (via Gas Emergency Service) will attend site and investigate within Emergency Respnse Standards f Service t make safe. Severe evidence f crrsin and examples Ntify GDN r igt - reprt cde B01 Where pitting f pipe appears visually t be deeper than just pwdery rust it may be necessary t assess the remaining pipe wall thickness, particularly at areas where water can cllect and react with unprtected metal. Lk fr evidence f flaking r lse pipe wrapping and signs f lcalised pitting. NOTE D nt rub any live severely crrded pipes. In these circumstances the GDN r igt shuld be infrmed f the situatin as they will need t undertake a risk assessment prir t any meter wrks being undertaken. If the issue is with the installatin pipe then make reference t the GIUSP.
