1 11th Congress of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE 2010) Continuity and change in ethnopharmacology: Transdisciplinary science for our future. Dear colleagues September 20 to 25th, 2010, Albacete, Spain Welcome to the second circular with an update about the forthcoming 11th Congress of the ISE which will be held jointly with the first Spanish-Portuguese congress on ethnobiology (EHPE). It is written on my (MH s) way back from a few very dense and stimulating days in Castilla-La Mancha and great progress has been made since the first circular. The team around Dr. Alonso Verde from Castilla La Mancha have worked tremendously hard to make this congress an exciting and successful event. In this 2nd circular we give you an update, and more information is continuously added to the webpage. So, make sure to visit regularly. There are a range of opportunities to present your work and we hope for lively discussions in front of the many posters which are planned and, of course to listen to and to discuss a wide range of invited and other lectures. We have decided to only have two parallel sessions, one more dedicated to ethnopharmacology (ISE - English only) and the second one to Spanish and Portuguese ethnobiology (EHPE - English, Portuguese and Spanish). Several symposia have now been confirmed and as we write these lines, one final one with a focus on medicinal plants from China is under development. We want to draw you attention to the young researchers workshop and the opportunity this offers for an informal and frank scientific discussion about what is happening in the field. A workshop by Prof. Rob Verpoorte, Editor-in Chief of the Journal of Ethnopharmacology will offer the opportunity to learn more on how to write and publish a world class research paper. In addition, at least five other editors from the Journal of Ethnopharmacology will be present at the congress. Most importantly, remember to submit you work and don t do it too late. The deadline for all abstracts is and they have to be submitted via the web. A lot more could be written, but just take a look at this circular and remember that this congress also offers another highlight the chance to degust the excellent Spanish cuisine and wine / beer or whatever you fancy. 5 Venue The symposium will be held at the beautiful campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, located at about 10 minutes from Albacete Airport and Albacete railway station, and is about 10 minutes walking distance from the city s largest shopping centre. Bank, post office, stores, restaurants and travel agent are also located within a short distance. Evening bus shuttles to the University Campus will run for the symposium to be held at the Palacio de Congresos to the University Campus. More Info REGISTRATION The registration fee ( includes entry to scientific lectures (of XI ISE congress and Ist EHPE), poster sessions, exhibition, full set of abstracts, a copy of the conference program, coffee breaks, and social events. Congress dinner and lunch vouchers can also be bought at the congress web page from January Each delegate may only submit one communication (as presenting author). Submission of abstracts will only be possible on-line, through the congress web-page during the registration process. Please note that accompanying persons can attend the welcome mixer, congress dinner and cultural/ musical evening, and other social events but they may only attend the keynote lectures and plenary. LANGUAGE The official language of the 11th ISE Congress is English. VISA Visas are not required for nationals from the EU, USA or Canada. Further information is available at: Nacionalidad.aspx Other nationalities are required to apply for a visa at the nearest Spanish Embassy or High Commission. TRAVEL Albacete is well connected by fast trains to Madrid (two hours), Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona. Madrid has a modern international airport, which provides connections to all major cities of the world. Most of the major airlines of the world have frequent flights to Madrid, since the city provides a major route linking with the Americas, Europe as well as with the Middle East, and USA. The small airport at Albacete has flights to Barcelona.
