It also provides the knowledge of active constituents and uses of medicinal plants. The macro and microscopical studies will help the students to identify and differentiate the crude drugs. 2
3 THE MAIN LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE COURSE By the end of this course the students will be able To understand each plant organ morphological and microscopic characters of crude drugs in entire and powder forms. To know the active constituents of medicinal herbs. To test and identify the purity of drugs, allied drugs and adulterants. To know the methods of cultivation, collection and preparation for the market. 4 SCHEDULE OF ASSESSMENT TASKS QUIZ MID TERM PRACTICAL-1 MID TERM THEORY EXAM ASSIGNMENT FINAL PRACTICAL-2 FINAL THEORY EXAM TOTAL 5 Marks 10 Marks 30 Marks 5 Marks 10 Marks 40 Marks 100 Marks Examination protocol Quiz Quiz exam will consist of 10 multiple choice questions for 5 marks. Topics for Quiz- I Seeds Fenugreek seeds. Linseed. Mustard seeds. Cardamom seeds and Strophanthus seeds. Date for Quiz Examination will be announced through Black Board after the discussion with the students and their group leader. 4
5 MID-TERM EXAM *Mid-term exam will consist of 30 multiple choice questions for 24 marks the topic covered from week one to week six. *Mid-term theoretical exam includes 80% multiple choice questions (MCQs) and 20% for written questions. *Five short bit questions will be given and choice will be given to answer any three, each answer carries two marks. i.e. 3 x 2 = 6 Topics for Mid-term exam The topic covered from week one to week six *Seed introductions, types of ovules and embryo, germination and outgrowth of testa. Botanical families of the following seeds and its botanical genus and species names * Fenugreek macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal uses of crude drug. * Linseeds: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal uses of crude drug. * Mustard seeds: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal uses of crude drug. Comparative study of white mustard and black mustard. * Cardamom seeds: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal *Strophanthus seeds and its species: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal * Nuxvomica seeds: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal * Colchicum seeds: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal * Psyllium seeds: macro and microscopic structures active constituents and medicinal uses of crude drug. 6 ASSIGNMENTS *It will be given to the students in groups from the topics of the course. This activity will be online Black Board. ( E-Assignment) *It will carry 5 marks. END SEMSTER EXAM *Final exam will consist of 60 multiple choice questions (MCQs) for 40 marks. *The final examination will consist of 3 MCQs / lectures from the topic after mid-term examination (from 6 th week onwards). Note: No questions from the lectures / the topics of pre mid-term portions (syllabus covered) *Duration of Final Examination will be 90 minutes (1hr and 30 min) * FINAL SEMESTER EXAMINATION, DATE, TIME AND PLACE WILL BE INFORMED BY THE ACADEMIC OFFICE.
