1 STRATEGIC PLAN ADVOCACY EXPERIENCE BEAUTIFICATION & SAFETY RED DEER DOWNTOWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
2 VISION The Downtown Business Association is the champion for Red Deer s Downtown businesses. MISSION The Downtown Business Association will: Be the voice for Downtown businesses Promote the Downtown experience Enhance the safety, cleanliness and attractiveness of the core PILLARS Our Strategic Plan focuses on three key pillars: Advocacy Beautification & Safety Experience
3 ADVOCACY Provide information and referrals to new businesses, including: Navigating municipal or government processes Accessing Downtown Business Association support and grant opportunities Member-to-member referrals Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessments Advocacy to agencies and/or other support organizations, as appropriate Enhance member engagement through relationship building and effective communication, including: One-on-one meetings Monthly newsletters Website Social media A personal presence in the Downtown (off-site meetings whenever possible) Annual meeting, open houses, mixers and support of Downtown festivals and events Supporting business success through our programs and activities Build relationships with property managers to maximize attractiveness, safety and cleanliness of the Downtown, through: Ensuring bylaw compliance Liaising and advocating between property managers and business owners Create collaborative action plans with service providers to work with street-involved population Promote economic development by recruiting and retaining national and international business investment Maximize business and professional development opportunities for members Advocate for the expansion of the Business Improvement Area (BIA)
4 EXPERIENCE Develop a comprehensive communications plan to maximize effectiveness of communications with all audiences Encourage year-round use of Downtown spaces Increase visits to the Downtown through marketing and promotional activities Facilitate development and enhancement of the arts through partnerships Build awareness of parking options Increase awareness and use of the Seal of Approval program Maximize opportunities for cross-promotion, advertising and networking amoung Downtown businesses through marketing and promotional activities 08 Explore innovative opportunities to market Downtown businesses and attractions 09 Promote a vibrant nightlife experience by: Advocating for changes to the taxi bylaw Advocating for public washrooms throughout the Downtown Advocating for increased security during peak nightlife hours Advocating for late night shopping Offering the Seal of Approval program to special event organizers Promoting Downtown businesses on social media
5 BEAUTIFICATION & SAFETY Negotiate and execute the Downtown Contract with The City of Red Deer Build relationships and liaise with RCMP, Downtown Community Development Committee and Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre Encourage sustainability and refurbishment of Downtown s historic qualities Partner with The City of Red Deer and Downtown businesses to enhance Downtown beautification Build awareness of Facade Improvement, Perpendicular Signage Subsidy and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design programs Explore opportunities for new safety and beautification programs and activities Advocate for an increase in positive places for people to congregate 08 Explore recycling opportunities
