1 Lion s Mane to the Tails Keeping District 14-L Lions Clubs Informed Number 49 November, 2018 Website: Facebook District Governors Message I can hardly believe it is November. The leaves are still green with a little color coming. But with my travels to many clubs we still see the beauty that God created. It has been wonderful visiting the many clubs and seeing all that the clubs are doing for their community. Keep up the good work! Just a reminder to send your reservations in to me for the Cabinet Meeting held on November 11th. We need a count who is coming for the luncheon. Please or telephone it to me by November 5th. Don't forget the Stride Walk held at 11 o'clock and the luncheon after the walk and followed by the Cabinet Meeting. Then on the 18th another Stride Walk held at Captain Jack. This will take place at 2 o'clock. If you can't walk have your clubs donated to the worthy cause. Remember the raffle tickets that were given to all of the clubs and to the Cabinet Members, please turn in your money and stubs to me. You could be the lucky person or club to win the prize. I want to remind the clubs, you will be receiving delegate forms for which you will send delegates to vote at the State Council Meeting held at the Altoona Grand Hotel on February 2nd in the morning. This voting will elect our PCC Larry Edwards for International Director. PCC Larry is an associate in the Lakemont Club. Please support him. He and his wife Susan has done so much for the Lions and 14-L. I find a Web page is very helpful in knowing and showing our community what the clubs are doing. If your club doesn't have one, maybe it would be wise to open up one. Also we need to keep our Web pages current. Thanks to all clubs who have a Web page. Our Disaster Fund needs help from all clubs. Don't forget clubs, when your club gives to a disaster in your community, the Disaster Fund will help by giving a extra $ to the person who needs help. I have an award for all clubs who give to the Disaster Fund. Remember PDG Jim Foreso and his family in your prayers. PDG Jim has had some health issues. He was in the Altoona Hospital for several weeks. Our thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. What does life mean to you? I fine my life is so full each day and full of joy serving others. Remember the value of life lies not in the length of days but in the use we make of them. We as Lions give in many ways. We have 48,000 clubs around the world and we are nearly 1.5 million members. Clubs, let us keep asking for new members to serve in our community. This past week at a service project I had a new club member come up to me and gave me a big hug and thank me for giving her an application to join the Lions Club. She told me it brought satisfaction to her life. She is a great asset to this club. So Lions get out there and ask for new members. The visitations for the month of November is: Huntingdon and Juniata Valley Clubs November 1 Captain Jack Club November 8 Shade Gap Club November 20 Have a GREAT THANKSGIVING and a BLESSING! Yours in Lionism, DG Leanna

3 Information regarding the District and Club Community Impact Grant (DCG) program Dear District Governor, Congratulations! Your district has qualified to participate in the District and Club Community Impact Grant (DCG) program. You may have recently learned of this new opportunity, which is now available for application. DCGs are provided to clubs and districts from their own contributions to Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). Your district qualifies for the program because your district and the clubs in your district have cumulatively donated US$16, to LCIF in the last fiscal year, This amount does not include any donations from qualifying clubs in your district that may have already opted to utilize their qualifying 15% at the club level. This means that this fiscal year, , you can apply for a DCG to support humanitarian activities in your community in an amount up to, but not exceeding, US$2, Your district s earned funds will be available for this program for 15 years. After 15 years, the opportunity to apply for the 15 percent will expire. To learn more about this exciting new grant program and to apply, visit our website: Questions regarding donations or a district s balance of available funds should be directed to Donor Services at donorassistance@lionsclubs.org. Applications and grant inquiries should be submitted to New & Emerging Initiatives at LCIFdistrictandclub@lionsclubs.org. Thank you for your support of our Foundation. Together, we can empower Lions to
4 Club Presidents & Secretaries: Our district is again sponsoring a Strides Lions Walk for Diabetes Awareness on November 11, 2018 beginning at 11:00 am at the Northern Bedford High School. This year our Strides Walk will be taking on a new meaning as the Lions Clubs in District 14-L have agreed to participate in the Western Pennsylvania Hearing Foundation. Diabetes is a common cause of hearing decencies in our youth and elderly. Our goals to fight against diabetes is threefold, first; to prevent type 2 diabetes through healthy lifestyles and healthy communities. Second: To control diabetes related complications through education, support and increased access to care. Third; Research; to support and advocate for research that leads to new treatment and technologies that can change lives. Here are three ways your club can join the fight against diabetes. Organize a community support group for those with diabetes, partner with a local healthcare provider to organize a diabetes screening, organize a school or community vegetable garden to encourage healthy eating. Just have your members secure sponsors to commit an amount per mile of the walk. Have one or more members commit to the walk. If you are unable to secure members from your club to join in the walk the district will supply your club with a designated walker or your club can simply make a donation for this District 14-L project.. Thanking you in advance for your consideration. Kay Shatzer Burnham Lions Club Diabetes Awareness Chairperson District 14-L Alexander Avenue Mount Union, PA ashatzer@verizon.net
