On Sunday, we left Waldorf and traveled to Dewey Beach to join the participants of the DLF Walk for lunch. The event was a huge success with donations of $17,000. Thank you to all you worked on making the Walk so worthwhile. The District held an orientation on Saturday, April 29. There were approximately sixty Lions and friends in attendance. 3 Page 3 Second Vice District Governor Having the Courage Greetings Fellow Lions, The end is fast approaching for this Lions year. It has been so much fun traveling with DG Glenn and his cabinet and learning more about the great Lions of District 22D. With great Lions pride we have made this district shine once again! The district has been able to serve their communities well in many different ways; such things as providing glasses, food to the food bank and supporting families over the different holidays. Please give yourself a hand for all the great work that has been done and will be done! On April 29 th I saw great Lions pride with so many Lions coming out to the district orientation. While sitting there, I realized that 5 of the newer members to attend this event were women! That just goes to show you that DG Glenn and the members of this district have been working hard to increase the number of women serving with the Lions of District 22D. The Multiple District Convention is soon upon us and there are high hopes of seeing many Lions from the district there. There is also a training session coming up on June 10 th that will give the Lions of our district an opportunity to learn many different aspects and duties of this district. Hope to see you there. 6 Page 6 A big THANK YOU to all the Lions Clubs who supported the Walk for Sight on Sunday, April 23, This being the only fundraiser held by the Delaware Lions Foundation at this time, your support helps make it possible for grants to any Club who has a project above their budget. The money is still coming in and the money raised from ad s, donations and walkers has reached $17,000 gross. We were happy to have Lyndsey Warnick, pictured on the left, as our Grand Marshall. Lyndsey was helped by the Dover Lions with the purchase of an Augmentative Communications Device. The Club requested a grant from DLF so they could meet Lyndsey s need. The picture on the right shows some of the Indian River Leos who carried the Banner throughout the Walk. Special thank you to the Dewey Beach Lions for opening their Club House due to the weather. They have been a great support the last four years cooking and having all the soda s ready on the day of the walk. This is your Foundation and it serves all 35 Clubs in Delaware as well as Lioness and Leo s. Again thank you for your ad s, donations and being a part of the Walk on Sunday. Flushing medicine down the toilet can end up polluting the water we drink. Throwing your pills in the garbage can become a toxic disposal. Instead, take part in local Take Back programs. Check with your local police departments as many have containers at your disposal. As many of you might already know, the state of Delaware has removed many of the road side recycle bins. There are only 13 centers throughout the state and they are open Monday through Saturday 8:30 am until 3:30 pm. For information on locations call If you do not have neighborhood recycle pick up, please make the effort to find a location near you. Imagine the pain of a father who once provided for his family, but now no longer can because a preventable disease stole his sight. These are the reasons why SightFirst is dedicated to providing eye care to underserved communities and fighting preventable blindness. One of our key partners in SightFirst is the World Health Organization (WHO). Through our partnership with the WHO, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) receives technical support for SightFirst initiatives as well as three other areas of importance: our Global Childhood Blindness Initiative, our Diabetic Eye Disease Initiative, and eye care initiatives in China. The results of the partnership are impressive. LCIF has established 45 child-friendly eye care centers in 30 countries, developed a tool to help countries improve upon the measures of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy care, and eliminated trachoma as a public health threat in China. Because of what the WHO makes possible for SightFirst and our other LCIF initiatives, I am proud to announce the renewal of our agreement with the WHO. The partnership LCIF has with the WHO has been tremendously successful and we are very pleased to have extended our relationship. We are proud to be working with an organization who wants to see progress as much as we do and we look forward to future achievements.
